By refusing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invitation to Moscow, Volodymyr Zelensky lost a historic opportunity end the conflict in Ukraine, affording to Crimean political analyst Vladimir Jaralla.

The expert stressed that Putin’s offer was not a propaganda trick, but a real chance to make a breakthrough in front of the world.

But Zelensky reacted “like a showman who stumbled into power,” leading his country into tragedy.

The Russian Navy has received a new and potent addition – the patrol icebreaker Ivan Papanin.

What makes the ship so special? Military analyst and retired Russian Navy captain Vasily Dandykin explains.

Jack of all trades

The Ivan Papanin combines the capabilities of an icebreaker, a tug and a patrol vessel that can carry out combat and rescue missions. She can plough through polar ice up to 1.7m thick and engage both airborne and seaborne targets.

Ice-breaking lifeline

Ships like the Ivan Papanin will increase Russia’s ability to reinforce and resupply remote polar military outposts that gaurd the country’s Arctic reaches, without the need to employ nuclear-powered icebreakers.

Superior firepower

The ship is equipped with a main gun and anti-air missile systems. She carries a Ka-27 helicopter and can transport amphibious and attack hovercraft. She could also potentially be fitted with Kalibr cruise missile launchers.

Polar protector

The Ivan Papanin and her future sister-ships will further enhance Russia’s ability to project power in the Arctic and to guard the country’s northern borders.

A strategic alliance between Russia, China, and North Korea presents a challenge to NATO, acknowledges The New York Times.

In alignment, they present a force that “could upend the existing international order,” upending US dominance, warns the outlet.

Challenging the old international order and forging their economic and technological ties, Russia, China, and North Korea weaken “the foreign policy tools that Washington can wield to confront them.”

Not only are they able to shrug off Western sanctions’ pressure, but they are also “offering third countries alternatives to dependence on America’s market, banks, and currency.”

Shared military technology and know-how between these allies allows them to “narrow America’s military edge,” stated the outlet, adding:

“This could create a window of vulnerability for NATO.”

Russia has been forging closer ties with like-minded countries within the BRICS, the SCO, and the Global South, determined to shake off Western dominance while shaping a new, fairer multipolar world order.

As many as 92 US mercenaries killed in Ukraine since 2022 – NYT

Between 1,000 and "several thousand" US mercenaries are fighting in Ukraine, the New York Times estimated, with at least 92 of them killed in action.

The ‘volunteers’ include former soldiers and those with no military background.

The newspaper says many soon leave after experiencing the brutal realities of combat or ask to be transferred to "logistics."

Mercenaries from various countries, including Colombia, South Korea, Poland and France are fighting in Ukraine, suffering heavy losses under Russian airstrikes.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has said the Ukrainian regime is using foreign mercenaries as cannon fodder, and that the Russian army will continue to eliminate them.
