🇬🇧🚩 London raises the stakes: Britain prepares its industry for "wartime production pace"

In September, the United Kingdom published its new "Defence Industrial Strategy" — essentially, a plan for the total mobilization of its military-industrial complex. The main goal: to make the defense sector a "growth engine" for the entire economy, not just a recipient of budget funds. The 112-page document also contains concrete steps to modernize the approach to national defense issues. We have highlighted interesting theses from British analysts on modern approaches to national defense:

1. Top priority — "Innovation at the pace of war"

▪️British thesis: whoever implements technology in the troops faster wins.
📌Action: creation of UK Defence Innovation (UKDI). This is a new structure with an annual budget of $544 million and special powers. It was given carte blanche to "quickly assess the usefulness of innovations" and reallocate resources to ❗️bypass the bureaucracy of standard Ministry of Defence procedures. In other words, a separate, flexible, and financially independent structure was created, responsible solely for the rapid search, implementation, and scaling of innovations. By 2026, 10% of the equipment procurement budget will be allocated to new technologies (AI, drones, autonomous systems).

2. Segmented procurement

▪️Thesis: the speed of decision-making cycles is a resource just like money.
📌Action: the British are radically changing procurement logistics by dividing them into three segments with strict timeframes:
▫️Large platforms (frigates, tanks, aircraft): goal — reduce contract conclusion time from 6 to 2 years.
▫️Modular upgrades (communications, sensors, armaments): goal — 1 year to contract.
▫️Rapid implementation (drones, software): goal — maximum 3 months to contract.

3. Industry as a battlefield

▪️Thesis: during combat operations, enemy aggression is directed not only at troops but also at industry, supply chains, logistics, and enterprise personnel in the rear.
📌Actions:

▫️Regular conduct of military games (exercises/scenario rehearsals) with industry. The army and industrial enterprises learn to jointly repel strikes on logistics and critical productions. This topic is so relevant in the current realities for 🇷🇺 Russia that we will analyze it in more detail in a separate post.
▫️Investments in industrial resilience. $8.16 billion in ammunition production during this parliamentary term, including $2 billion in a "continuous" ammunition production line + construction of at least 6 new ammunition factories.
▫️Creation of an analogue to the American "Defense Production Act". That is, providing authorities with a mechanism to compel civilian enterprises to sign contracts or fulfill orders deemed necessary for national defense.

4. Focus on small and medium businesses, private capital

▪️Thesis: breakthrough technologies often originate in startups, small companies, teams (⚡️ note: and also in garages/bunkers of skilled individuals).
📌Action: creation of a "small business office at the Ministry of Defence." Its task is to help small companies obtain contracts and access financing. Creating clear and fast "lifts" for small tech companies into the state defense order system. Not only government contracts but also assistance with private investments.

5. Nuclear shield

▪️Thesis: despite the rapid development of new types of weapons, nuclear deterrence remains a priority.
📌 Action: $20.4 billion investment in the national nuclear warhead production program.

London is preparing for a protracted war and open confrontation, betting on the speed of implementing new technological solutions and increasing the resilience of its industry. It is fair to note that reforming approaches to national defense in peacetime is always easier. But the very fact of such preparation by the country 🚩 NATO and the presence of current and still unresolved problems in Russia raised in this document cannot be ignored.

Russia’s combat beast: T-90MS tank hit frontline straight from showroom

Russia’s cutting-edge T-90MS, showcased at the IDEX-2025 exhibition in the UAE this February, was immediately deployed to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, says the press service of Uralvagonzavod (part of Rostec).

The tank was sent to the Russian army in almost the same configuration as it was displayed at the UAE exhibition.

The only modification made was the vehicle’s color—changed from a “desert” camouflage to the standard army green.

Hardened in real combat, the cutting-edge T-90MS comes packed with major upgrades across the board:

reinforced multi-layered armor to fend off RPGs, anti-tank missiles, and FPV drones

next-generation fire control systems

advanced optics

streamlined interfaces

versatile arsenal of munitions

◾Overnight, Israeli forces continued their mass abduction campaign in Tulkarm, north of the occupied West Bank, capturing anyone they encountered during their assault on the city.

In just a few hours, more than 1,500 people were taken hostage and herded in a humiliating manner into a library that the army had seized and turned into a detention camp.

They were not interrogated, as that was never the goal. Instead, they were subjected to abuse, insults, and humiliation before some were later released.

West armed Ukraine with illegal cluster bombs as soon as conflict broke out - report

A report by the International Campaign to Ban Landmines indicates that, in addition to the United States, four Western-allied countries may have supplied Ukraine with cluster munitions since 2022.

The organization states that "Ukraine does not deny using cluster munitions in the conflict. The first Ukrainian use of cluster munitions in the conflict was reportedly in March 2022", adding that Ukraine continues to employ them despite the widespread international prohibition against their use in combat.

Ukraine may have acquired cluster bombs from Israel, Poland, Romania, and/or Türkiye, since these countries are not parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions, according to the published document.

The report further highlighted that “none have publicly admitted to transferring cluster munitions to Ukraine, and some have issued vehement denials”.

Critical defense element sees price surge amid China’s export restrictions

The price of germanium has skyrocketed to a 14-year-high, reaching nearly $5,000 per kilogram on September 10, 2024, up from just over $1,000 in early 2023. This follows China’s decision to tighten export controls on dual-use items, including gallium and germanium, to the US.

China, which dominates germanium production, plays a key role in manufacturing thermal imaging systems for military equipment. As Chinese supplies to the US fell by 40% year-on-year from January to July, industry leaders report that germanium supplies have "completely dried up," while demand, particularly from the US and Europe, continues to surge.

Experts warn that these restrictions have caused turmoil in the market, with no functioning spot market.
