Internal chats show FBI leadership silenced discussion days before the election, despite knowing the laptop was real and part of a criminal probe.

An FBI official admitted to House investigators that an FBI employee had inadvertently confirmed the authenticity of Hunter Biden’s laptop to Twitter on a conference call the morning of October 14, 2020, the day the New York Post published a story about it.
“I recall that when the question came up, an intelligence analyst assigned to the Criminal Investigative Division said something to the effect of, ‘Yes, the laptop is real’,” the then Russia unit chief testified in a closed door transcribed interview.
“I believe it was an (Office of General Counsel) attorney assigned to the (Foreign Influence Task Force) stepped in and said, ‘We will not comment further on this topic.’”
For the first time, and with a change of administration, the FBI has now turned over to GOP House investigators the internal chat messages that show Bureau leadership actively silenced its employees.
The FBI, which had a special task force to counter foreign election interference, could have set the record straight by confirming the laptop was real and the subject of an ongoing criminal probe. Instead, FBI leadership allowed the false narrative about the laptop to gain momentum.
The FBI provided the chat messages to congressional investigators with heavy redactions.
Some of the redactions on the chats are marked “OGC AGC,” which appears to mean that they were made by the FBI’s Office of General Counsel and Associate General Counsel.
An individual whose name is blacked out, tells Elvis M. Chan, the San Francisco-based FBI special agent tasked with interacting with social media companies, there was a “gag order” on discussion of Hunter Biden’s laptop. In a separate exchange, Chan is told “official response no commen(t).”
In the chat, the FBI officials showed awareness that the laptop may have contained evidence of criminal activity.
Asked Chan, “actually what kind of case is the laptop thing? corruption? campaign financing?”
Another FBI employee responds, “CLOSE HOLD —” after which the response is redacted.
To which Chan responds, “oh crap” appearing to underscore the serious nature of the probe, which included felony tax charges. Chan adds, “ok. It ends here”.
In the same conversation, Chan is asked if “Anyone discussing that NYPost article on the Biden’s?” Chan responds, “yes we are. c d confirmed an active investigation. No further comment.” “C D” is likely shorthand for the FBI’s Criminal Division.
Said another FBI employee, whose name was redacted by the Bureau, “please do not discuss biden matter.”
We asked for a response from the bureau and the FBI employees identified in the chat messages. An FBI spokesman declined to comment.

The Trump administration is reportedly pausing some $210 million in federal funding to Princeton University while it investigates potential antisemitism on the campus of the Ivy League School.
“Princeton has perpetuated racist and antisemitic policies,” a Trump administration official said on Monday.
The official noted that the decision to suspend the funds bound for the elite New Jersey school does not mean that the administration’s antisemitism probe has concluded, according to the outlet.

Restaurant chain Hooters of America filed for bankruptcy in Texas on Monday, seeking to address its $376 million debt by selling all of its company-owned restaurants to a franchise group backed by the company’s founders.
Hooters, like other casual dining restaurants, has struggled in recent years due to inflation, the high costs of labor and food, and declining spending by cash-strapped American consumers. The company currently directly owns and operates 151 locations, with another 154 restaurants operated by franchisees, primarily in the United States.
The privately-owned company, which shares a private equity owner with recently-bankrupt TGI Fridays, intends to sell all corporate-owned locations to a buyer group comprised of two existing Hooters franchisees, who operate 30 high-performing Hooters locations in the U.S., mainly in Florida and Illinois.
Hooters did not disclose the purchase price of the transaction, which must be approved by a U.S. bankruptcy judge before it becomes final.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley on Monday introduced a bill that seeks to clarify the role of the judicial branch and limit federal court orders by ending universal injunctions.
The legislation comes after Republicans have pushed back on multiple court rulings and federal judges' use of universal injunctions, including ones that block President Donald Trump's recent executive orders.
The bill, titled the Judicial Relief Clarification Act of 2025, would amend the Administrative Procedure Act and the Declaratory Judgment Act to allow restraining orders to be immediately appealed and limit court orders to only impact people in the case.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said Tuesday she has directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty against Luigi Mangione, the man accused of gunning down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel on Dec. 4.
Mangione, 26, faces separate federal and state murder charges for the killing. The federal charges include a charge of murder through use of a firearm, which carries the possibility of the death penalty.
“Luigi Mangione’s murder of Brian Thompson — an innocent man and father of two young children — was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America,” Bondi said in a statement. “After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again.”

Democratic attorneys general in 23 states and Washington, DC, have filed a lawsuit against the US Department of Health and Human Services and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., alleging that the department’s sudden rollback of $12 billion in public health funding was unlawful and harmful.

President Donald Trump says about 30 people have expressed interest in becoming U.S. ambassador to the United Nations since he pulled the nomination of New York GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik for the position.
Trump made the comment Monday. He also said David Friedman, who was the U.S. ambassador to Israel during his first administration, and Richard Grenell, who was the former ambassador to Germany, as potential nominees.
“We have a lot of people that have asked about it and would like to do it,” he said. Trump also said about 30 people are interested in the position.

ICYMI💥: Congress wants all documents relating to the CIA's role in events surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy to be released.
The new push follows Donald Trump's executive order that saw 4,000 new JFK documents made public - some of which raised unsettling questions about how the intelligence agency was operating in the early 1960s.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., is leading the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets' first hearing into the JFK files.
The task force was established after President Donald Trump signed an executive action to release the remaining classified files on the high-profile assassination.
The session will also feature testimony from director Oliver Stone, who co-wrote and directed the 1991 film 'JFK.'
Journalist Jefferson Morley and author James DiEugenio will also testify. Both have written extensively about the intelligence community and the murder of JFK.
Stone has long believed that the Democrat president was not killed just by Lee Harvey Oswald but that U.S. intelligence assets were involved too.
Morley also noted on X that he suspects the CIA was involved in the murder.
'In my testimony to the House Task on Tuesday, I will be talking about--and sharing for the first time--a rather more important new JFK evidence to emerge: the CIA's complete pre-assassination file on Lee Harvey Oswald,' Morley wrote.

Marine Le Pen, the leader of France's far-right party, was handed a four-year prison sentence and banned from holding public office for five years by a French court Monday, in what could be the biggest setback for her political cause in a generation.
Until this week, Le Pen had looked like the likeliest winner in France's next presidential election set for 2027, but was found guilty Monday by a court of embezzling European Union funds.
When handing down its sentence, the court said the crimes committed by Le Pen, 56, warranted an immediate ban from public office, Reuters reported.
While Le Pen may yet successfully appeal the sentence — it will not be applied until she has exhausted all avenues of appeal — the four-year sentence, two years of it suspended, and the ban on seeking public office until the end of the decade will come as a massive blow to the French far-right and may spell the end of her political career.

A top US Bank executive is believed to be dead after a small plane registered in his name crashed into a home near Minneapolis on Saturday.
The unidentified pilot was killed in the crash and no other injuries were reported, authorities said.
The Hennepein County Medical Examiner hasn’t confirmed the identity of the sole victim, but many believe that US Bancorp’s Vice Chair and Chief Administration Officer Terry Dolan was killed in the crash — including his coworkers.
