I'm afraid that my best friend lost his mind to Forever Living.
My best buddy, who is 40 years old, is neck-deep in this Forever Living aloe vera MLM cult. I've been best men at two of his weddings so we are kind of close, we talk every day. His second wife, who I do not know that well, is a sales rep to this skincare company and I suspect that she has been enlisted during one of her journeys. Now that I can understand because she does not seems to be the sharpest tool in a shed. But my buddy jumped in that pool head first, no hesitation whatsoever. For years we joked at this MLM bullcrap but suddenly It's a great opportunity! For the last six months or so every time we talk he's talking about how much money they are earning, how he's going to quit his well-paid job and go live in Italy, and how bright his future is. I think nothing of it - I know that MLM is bullshit but I figured that since his wife is a good sales rep maybe she fished some dumb twats during her journeys and made some money (they are claiming to make 3k$ every month). But then It got worse he tried to sell me this crap and get me "under his wings". If he tried it once I would understand but he tried it 5 times a week. I politely refused.
One day I decided to research what exactly he's gotten himself into and on this sub, I found This. I got properly mad after reading it. That sweet talk about their earnings? He's been baiting me. The fact that he's been openly trying to get me into this I find very insulting.
I will confront him soon I think I deserve some apology.

Only pair of Lula's I own. Donated by a consultant to all the healthcare workers in my town. I appreciate the gesture, but can only bring myself to wear them as long johns or pj's. I have had them for 6 months and the thread is already starting to wear thin.

Stealing to support your mlm habit
Just another reason to LOVE the mlm companies... bank card compromised and all the charges (that I certainly didn't make) were to various mlm companies. If your going to steal from me, don't steal from me for an mlm.

Just found this sub and it’s brought back a weird memory of getting recruited
Hope it’s ok to post here, I just found this sub and it brought back a memory of someone trying to recruit me to an MLM, I’m pretty sure it was Mary Kay but I can’t exactly remember. I’ve never told anyone because I felt kinda embarrassed about the whole thing but I thought you all might appreciate it.
I was in my early 20’s( about 10 years ago) and just moved into my first apartment on my own. It was in a new area so I didn’t have any friends or family close by. I was at target picking up a few things when this woman approached me. She was slightly older and was really beautiful and dressed really nice. She struck up a conversation about butter dishes and told me to check out tj maxx and asked if I knew where it was. I told her no, I’m new to the area and (I realize now looking back) her eyes literally lit up and she told me that she was having a “party” that weekend and I should totally attend. That people were getting makeovers and I could meet some really nice women in the area. Not really thinking I just said ok and she gave me her business card with her address on it. Naively I was actually so flattered that someone so put together would want to be friends with me and I thought it would be really cool to make a group of friends in the area. I was feeling pretty great until I got home and looked at the business card. I did some research on the company and realized it was an MLM and that a “party” isn’t exactly what I was thinking it was. I felt really stupid thinking that this woman wanted to be my friend but was actually manipulating me in order to make money off me. I still considered going thinking maybe I could make some friends but in the end I didn’t go. I didn’t grow up around any MLM culture so it took me a while for it to really sink in that these people absolutely had no interest in being my friend and just wanted to take advantage of me. The whole thing has made me really cautious about meeting new people unfortunately. I hope maybe someone reads this and can relate. Thanks for taking the time to read this, the memory still haunts me from time to time but it’s nice seeing this sub and how other people respond to getting recruited. I wish I had been more savvy at the time and could have responded the way a lot of you do!

Moved away from my small town 5 years ago. Have always been quietly annoyed about MLMs from old friends on social media. Tonight my 16 year old niece called me about a “great opportunity.” I can’t hold my tongue anymore. Disgusting. (Breakaway is the MLM)

Just no..... At least clean up your fingers first. One of my facebook friends posted this photo of her and her Gelmoment. I have never seen her post about this mlm before. I was shocked.

Why are There No Reality Shows About MLMs?
Imagine a show on TLC about MLM huns..I’d be addicted. Sort of shocked nothing has been created, it’s such low hanging fruit.

Is doTERRA a cult?
So I'm quite new to MLM schemes. My mother has been talking about essential oils for a few months now, and last month sent me some oils and a diffuser. I started using them because they smell nice and all that, but always thinking that I would never spend that much money on them.
But now whenever I have any kind of symptom or pain, she will turn to me and tell me to use a certain oil. I tried it a few times and nothing happened. Last week, she invited me to a zoom call about the essential oils.
I attended for the first time yesterday and wtf.
They all seem to believe the oils are life changing and can cure anything, including nightmares. All of them were criticizing medicines and doctors.
Another curious thing is that all of them were advocates (sellers). Like they are not even trying to sell to people, they just share and sell between them?
I've been trying to look for proper scientific research, proving that the oils actually do anything besides smelling nice and helping you relax.
Should I be worried about my mom? She seems to getting more and more obsessed about it like it's the only thing in her life.
Yesterday, after the zoom call, she started trying to convince me to sell oils with her. How should I approach her?

Even your mlm disagrees with you on this...
I was just facebooked out of the blue by someone I haven't spoken to in over two decades and wasn't all that close to even then. I was braced for the inevitable mlm pitch but was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt since 2020 was a year and maybe they were desperate to reconnect with someone.
So, after a brief back and forth during which they unloaded their tale of woe; their failed marriage and newly acquired disability and impending financial ruin and certain homelessness... they asked me to help them out by buying some Scentsy products.
I told them that I would be willing to help them in a different way by offering them a place to stay if their situation was indeed that dire, and offered to put them in touch with a friend I know who runs a support group for people with their claimed disability.
Nope. They don't need that. Just buy a diffuser. The Scentsy has practically cured them anyway but now they need to grow their business to get back on their feet.
Me - I have asthma and a parrot. I can help you in other ways, if you actually need help, but I cannot buy your product.
Them - it doesn't aggravate asthma and is totally, 100%, bird safe
Me - Scentsy itself says that they cannot guarantee the safety of their product around indoor birds. Also, birds can die from using the wrong toaster. It's not just the sketchy ass oil I'm worried about. And yes, it absolutely does make it difficult for me to breathe.
Them - Okay. But you could be a consultant and sell the product for me.
Me - The product that I cannot use or have in my house? Um no. If you need help that doesn't involve Sentsy or want to actually get caught up and chat about non-Sentsy things please contact me, otherwise BYE
~Surprisingly~ they haven't contacted me again.
