Mannatech Hun trapped me at entrepreneurial event, "saved" by another
I haven't heard of Mannatech before, and it looks like most of the posts on it from this subreddit are from 4ish years ago (and one 11 months ago).
I went to a Women in Business-type event this morning. The event was hosted by an entrepreneurial group that I work with regularly. I took a brief video of the speaker doing her thing for posting purposes (it was a free event) and after the event, the woman behind me politely asked if I would send it to her. In retrospect, I'm sure she'll take it and use it as her own, but at the time I was vibing with the Women Supporting Women, and have actually met some wonderful and legitimate business contacts at the event, so i said sure!
She had to have been in her 50s or 60s. Her styles choices weren't what I prefer, but they weren't awful; appropriate for her age, if a little dated. The conversation started okay. She told me about her non-MLM endeavors, I told her a bit about me, and after commenting on how great it must be to live outside a major city but close enough to drive in easily, she casually mentioned how it was good for the soul, and she was also very into wellness and supplements. A tiny little alarm rang in my head, but I pushed it aside. Until she started mentioning all the "free" trips she and her husband kept going on, how she had a LOT of children (like a LOT a lot) and then slipped in things about Jesus being her wellness guide. At this point, my anti-religion alarm bells went off, and I tried to exit the conversation politely. She didn't let me off, and mentioned the name of her "wellness" company and how great it was, how they sent her on all of these trips because they loved their members so much etc. I had already made the mistake of giving her my phone number when I text her the video. Her digital card (which she sent me) has a link to her Mannatech site to confirm it was an mlm boasting an "opportunity". I'm dreading the eventual "not interested" conversation.
The woman who, after seeing me look around for an escape multiple times & is a sort-of friend I'd previously met at one of these events, came over to interrupt the conversation and pull me away. Also older, very sweet; I like her a good bit. We started chatting, she told me she could tell I wanted out, and I told her the religious talk was starting to be a lot (she knows I'm not religious and is very respectful about it). At this point, another friend of hers came over to say goodbye, and mentioned that she liked me eyeshadow (Sephora's Eye Love palette). I thanked her, and she asked my friend if she'd told me about her makeup company yet. I said no, curious, because that was not the business I was aware of. This was when it came out that she does Mary Kay, and now I'm torn about finally meeting up for lunch/coffee.
MLMs are ruining friendship singlehandedly.

Upset a BeachBody hun today
So a week or so ago I was in the depths of postpartum anxiety turned mania and got sucked in. I tried to fight it but my rational mind was not winning. I got “influenced”. I signed up to be a Beachbody coach. It was absolutely culty, maybe one of the worst! But I was transfixed. I then got on Zoloft and came back down to earth.
Yesterday I messaged everyone I tried to get to join me and apologized. Today I left all the Facebook groups, unfollowed all Beachbody huns, and let my coach know why I unfortunately could not in good conscience continue on and why I thought she could make a lot more money (and work A LOT less) by focusing on brand partnerships. I also explained that I have a very successful job and I get paid to travel, I don’t work that hard and Beachbody has nothing to offer me (except good workouts and I don’t need to be a coach for that.)
I just got an email that she deactivated my coach account. Lol. Guess she didn’t want me to get my $60 commission check! 🤣

My mom recently joined an MLM, how do I get her out of it
She is a single mother and was recruited into Forever Living a few weeks ago. The person who recruited her has convinced her that Forever Living pays a lot and is a stable source of income. I have tried to warn her about this multiple times, but she refuses to listen. Now she attends "webinars" daily and is considering buying some products. How do I convince her that this is a scam and that she needs to get out of it? I am very concerned about all this.

Whoa, major facepalm moment. It's crazy how many folks are sharing stories of big corporations completely screwing them over. My heart goes out to them, truly. Lesson learned though, let's hope they steer clear of any more MLM schemes in the future.

I did sell Scentsy— I finally terminated my account. I hadn’t actively sold in a hot minute—but my up line was a friend and I HATE confrontation or making people sad (Type 2 enneagram) anywho. I terminated my account and found much BETTER small shop wax melts that actually last longer than a day and aren’t MLM.
