Feedback?

Hi all,

A new friend who I have hung out with in groups twice sent me a text as follows:

Hello!!! Thank you for driving us yesterday! I was wondering if you could help me? I have a second job and I was hoping I can show you a little what I do and you can give me feedback. I'm still training. It'll be a 30 mins video session or in person.

She seems like an intelligent person but I know people come in all shapes and sizes. I replied, “sure! What kind of feedback?” Her response is as follows:

I'll give a feedback form after the presentation. Does tomorrow at 730pm work for you? I'm not sure when we are going to bard on the beach but Wed at 7pm also works.

Any advice? Help. A bit afraid, especially of being ambushed.

Scammed by my boss.

When I was fresh out of highschool I worked at a bank in a very small town. My boss sold MaryKay and convinced me I needed to be
part of this amazing business opportunity. I was going to make SO much money doing this on those side and she told me all about the extra money she was making. When I said I didn't have the money to buy the giant inventory starter package, she took me to the loan department and helped me get a business loan. She also did this to a coworker of mine. I still can't believe the bank approved those loans! Of course I barely sold any makeup because not long after signing up a ton of other people did too. I had no one to sell to that wasn't already selling it themselves. Both my coworker and myself ended up with huge amounts of makeup as well as a business loan to repay. Looking back I'm mortified at how naive I was but also that no one stopped to say how inappropriate it was that our boss was pushing us to get loans that made her money.

How did people market themselves before social media?

I feel like all these MLM people have the same posts and it’s basically just a science at this point, but what did they do pre-social media, heck even pre-internet? Was it door-to-door? Cold calls? Or just wandered around begging random people to buy crap?

Is my new job a standard MLM or just capitalist?

Capitalism is an MLM in of itself, sure, but is my job an actual MLM in the common meaning?

I just started at a consulting firm in Houston (which is a go to scam here but they actually have a real office and shit) and the job is basically standing at Costco by the exit where they have booths (Costco has a deal with this company or something) and signing people up for a quote/consultation. We get commission for each lead we schedule and verify over the phone with the base call center, and an extra commission if they answer a followup call the day before the consultation. So far, whatever, and they dont act like the obvious MLMs that have tried to recruit me. We also get a base pay of 12/hr if we dont get any commissions.

Except that they are training us to be managers and send others out to do this job once we are able to train them. We then get a commission for each commission our future trainees get.

They did some math and with the minimum metrics we can supposedly make 300k+ a year if we have trained 10 people and are managing them. These last 2 points sound suspicious as fuck but im an anarchist and at this point cant tell if its just standard capitalist bullshit

Anyone else have a similar experience? These systems are practically life ruiners!

What MLM term really bothers you?

For me, it’s “financial freedom”. Especially since the ones that use that term leave the people that join them broke and emotionally spent.

I’ve seen these companies manipulate people into believing that they’re entrepreneurs and working for themselves, which justifies BS like them paying for the product before selling to customers or paying for their own training/trips/conferences.

This term is too ironic when people quit their jobs only to wind up with expenses that outweigh any income while they burn bridges with their loved ones. I think that the people high up have to be sociopaths.

How do they do it?

My mother in law got into haircare recently and to help her I got into some things as well. Thanks to the mysterious ways of the algorithm, some Monat huns are now popping up in my Insta feed.

I didn't know they were Monat at first, I just thought they had gorgeous hair and I didn't figure it out until I scrolled one girl's Insta. And that brings me to my question: I read about Monat and what it does, but those girls have really beautiful hair. I know it's possible to fake a lot nowadays, but they have video of them using Monat all while having wonderful hair. How do they do this?

How does a company like WFG make money on people buying insurance, or signing up for savings accounts like TFSAs? I need help explaining why my mom shouldn't join

Hey everyone,

I have a best friend since childhood who has been in WFG for a couple of years, During COVID-19 she took a little break, but since 2022, she's been taking it seriously, going to meetings and conferences where applicable. Every week, she sets a meeting with someone to sign up for insurance or something (which she says will give her an $800 payout) but nobody has yet to sign up. Now, she wants to help my mom sign up for insurance because it is an "investment" and wants my mom to put $50 a month into a Tax-Free Savings Account she says will give her a minimum of 7% of returns, when I asked my friend why they haven't put the money in themselves, she said that she cant afford the $50 a month buy-in. My mother is basically like a mom to my friend but i cant find a way to stop her form signing up for this. Please help me explain to her where the scam is in signing up for the insurance

Heeey hunnn!

my experience with kangen mlm

this is relating to enagic & the freedom era

i went to high school with a girl 3 years older than me who was doing network marketing with isagenix.

a couple years after she graduated, she said she was doing something called “freelance affiliate marketing”. it seemed like a good way to make money online, so i looked it up.

the correct way of affiliate marketing is getting an affiliate link from a company and advertising it thru paid ads or on a blog or something. then you get commissions.

they call it affiliate marketing to hide the fact that the only way you can make money is from recruiting people.

there’s something called the “quad” where you buy four products for $14k (CAD). two water ionizers, a shower filter, and ukon turmeric supplements. most people take out a loan to do that.

i saw a video of her having a 10k month and i thought wow, that’s totally possible for me. so i dropped the money and went in.

i only found out afterwards that it’s not really affiliate marketing, it’s an mlm.

i started summer of 2020 just after my gap year and when covid hit. this was the worst time of my life and i felt so trapped trying to make money out of this scheme.

through “vision calls” i was told i wasn’t making money because my mindset was too negative and the “attraction marketing” wasn’t working because i had a low vibe.

basically what attraction marketing is, is using paid ads through instagram stories and posts to lure people to buying these “quads”, which gives the seller $3k-$8k in commissions.

they say it’s more direct sales because you can out-earn the person above you, but it’s straight up an mlm scam.

the best way to make money is to sell these quads and make $10k months by scamming people into buying $14k worth of products where most people don’t break even.

the freedom era is a training platform that teaches you sales, mindset, manifestation, and other spiritual tactics to be able to sell.

it’s so predatory and disgusting and i don’t know how it’s still running and more people haven’t talked about it.

comment or dm with questions, i’m very open about this experience.

How to avoid MLM association?

Hey guys!

I have an affiliate program that I'm trying to bring to people's attention. But I'm having a slight issue, I'm mostly just ignored. Nobody has told me that it's because it's a scam or anything like that, I just feel like that might be the case because I'm in the niche as most of these schemes (business).

Are any of these criteria a red flag? I've truly tried to make it as good as possible, so that everybody profits the same amount.

* 40% commission (which after the payments on my end, are basically half-half)
* no fees to join or anywhere else
* can join or leave anytime?

Thanks for the help!

Simply Profound Journeys?

I've been applying to remote jobs and recently received an email from Simply Profound Journeys for their Travel Agent position. Being that I've been mass applying I only ever look into a company if they reach out to me, but either I'm not looking in the right places or I'm finding there's little to no information about this business aside from their webpage. Glassdoor has a job posting of the role, but no reviews or anything show up there about the company themselves. Would anyone on this sub have any information that could help me out? I've signed up for a virtual orientation with them tomorrow and want to be sure I'm not getting into anything fishy.

Ever notice how huns start insulting when they can’t sell you on their crap?

A while back I posted on here about a girl I went to high school with trying to sell me on Primerica insurance. I said I’m not interested and that I know the deal as o was briefly sucked into Primerica (I was never seriously into it, I just did it to appease my mom). After I mentioned I’m also licensed to sell life insurance and that I don’t like MLMs, she mentioned that it sounds like I didn’t get proper teaching or training from my team.

I remember when I told my mom about her saying that, she mentioned how she went to her friends birthday party and she was doing one of those MLM promotions, someone else was insulting someone who wasn’t really making sales. Idk what MLM was being promoted at that party my mom went to, she just mentioned it was cookware that was payed in installments, and she said it wasn’t Amway.

I just find it weird how these huns think insulting others is gonna all of a sudden make someone who isn’t interested convinced they need to buy whatever they’re selling. When that girl from my high school made that comment about me not getting proper training, that just further affirmed my disinterest because why would I invest in something if you feel the need to insult me or others in order to make the sale? Something worth investing in should not include an insult of any sort in trying to pitch me.

A quick little story about how my son made a joke website making fun of people in an MLM when he was 13.

My son, who is currently grown & in the military, was taking a computer programming class in 8th grade & therefore had access to creating websites for free. My mother has been in one MLM after another all my life & at that time my son was super irritated by her giving him all these stupid oils for gifts & trying to force him to use them. He researched the company & fell down the MLM rabbit hole. So….

He decides to make a site & title the home page (it only had one page) N.A.P.S. Which stood for “Not a pyramid scheme”

The entire page was basically him telling people over and over;

“I swear this isn’t a pyramid scheme, just enter your card information and you too can gain financial independence”.

“I promise, all you need to do is BELIEVE in me, BELIEVE this isn’t a pyramid scheme and you can achieve your destiny”

“Invest in yourself, aren’t you worth it? Come on, enter you credit card. It’s an investment.”

It never said what you would get or how much you were paying, just a bunch a MLM cliches and catch phrases.

It was pretty hilarious. Unfortunately for him I forced him to take it down immediately because, despite not actually having a spot you could even enter your card info, he DID have a spot where you entered your social security number as an “alternative to investing cash, you can just sign over your identity. You’re gonna do that anyway with one of these schemes so let’s just get straight to it.” Funny, yes. Illegal, definitely!

(*to clarify, the box where you’d supposedly enter your social security number didn’t actually work, it was just for comic effect.)

(Yes we had several conversations after that on ethical behavior on the internet.)

Friend had me “help him” do a presentation “for practice” due to his new job at Primerica - It was hilarious

So this happened about 10 months ago. I have a long time friend that I only stay relative with on Facebook. I like his posts and stuff from his wedding to his new baby, etc as I am a really supportive friend and like to encourage healthy, happy lives.

Anyways he sends me a Facebook message saying that he and his wife have just started a new “employment journey” and they have to practice a presentation on 8 friends or family members. I still haven’t caught on yet, but I’m willing to support so I tell him yes.

The next day he calls me right on time for our scheduled appointment and begins his “presentation” which consists of a explaining a bunch of mumbo jumbo about his new company and how they’ve started helping him and his wife get on the right track.

He then started asking me about how much I make at my job?

- $57k/yr.
- how much of that goes to taxes?
- The standard taxable amount.
- How much for your health insurance?
- None. My company pays my entire premium.
(He long pauses.)
- How much are you able to save each month for retirement?
- 5% comes out of my check, my company matches 3%
- What about personal savings?
- 20% of my check is directly taken from my pay and put into a separate savings account using direct deposit.
(Long pause again.)
- Ok great, I’m gonna get my mentor on the phone with us!
(Pause - Mentor gets on, greets me, begins asking questions
- How much credit card debt do you have?
- I paid off all my credit cards 2 years ago and stopped using them, I have none.
- How much is your car payment?
- It’s paid off
- Do you take any vacations?
- About 3 or 4 four day trips a year
- Would you like to make more money during your free time?
- Absolutely not. I spend my free time free from work.
- Do you enjoy what you currently do for work?
- I adore my job, my company treats me very well, I went to school for this and I plan on continuing my education to grow in the company.
(Long pause)

Recruiter starts to ask another question, I politely tell him I only have another 30 minutes left for my lunch break and I’m going to enjoy my lunch, but we can continue this call at a later time.

I never hear from either of them again after they thank me for allowing my friend to practice presenting on me.

Can we talk about falling in love with someone who is deep in a brainwashing MLM, who becomes a completely different person after leaving the MLM..

Me (34/f) and my now wife, (also 34/f) met in 2017 while she was neck deep in an MLM that has now crumbled. (I say neck bc she was all but drowning in it)
WorldVentures (DreamTrips) to be exact. Essentially claimed to enable people to vacation easier and sooner by paying a monthly fee for WV to be their travel agent. In a simple word.

We met at work as servers/bartending and I was her trainer. We instantly hit it off as friends as I found her to be adventurous, exciting, dedicated, struck up thought provoking convos, interesting and potentially very successful.
They truly had instilled SOME good things in her; but it was meant to make them more cemented and better at convincing people to join.
She was involved in the MLM deeply, since about 2015. Pouring all of her extra money and time into it. She and her ex, had visited several countries and states working for WV together. She’d even quit her unfulfilling job as a band teacher/director at a middle school in a poor town to do this.

I’d shared my feelings with my roommate at the time about her being a good friend for me and influence on me, because I wanted to be around people with similar goals and mindset as myself.

We both worked at this restaurant for a few years together. She even became a manager. A few months into knowing each other, we began to like each other romantically. Spending tons of time together.

My first red flag, which I chose to ignore at the time, was when she asked me to coffee to share a “project she was working on” before we became an item.

This excited me, (I was still unaware of the depth of the MLM in her life at this point.) as I was expecting her to bring up some sort of creative or passion project that I could totally get into. Naive of me, I know.

When she began talking I was smiling and totally engaged, when I realized she was attempting to sell WorldVentures to me, my smile dropped, but I chose not to express my disappointment as I wanted to be somewhat supportive. But i was hurt by it. I joined for maybe 3 months before dropping it. We continued to move forward with our relationship despite this as she stopped pushing it on me after that.

She continued to attend “conferences” for it around the country, costing her around a thousand dollars per trip, a few times a year for around a year into our relationship. Yet she was still making zero income from it. She is not intense enough of a person to have made serious money to begin with, and ended up ruining a lot of her old friendships and a few relationships in her family trying to convince people to join..

I expressed to her, that the amount of money she was spending traveling to these conferences but yet never being successful, was really unconvincing and honestly kind of whack. It only took a few arguments before she got a clue and stopped wasting her money and eventually dropped the MLM.

About a year into our relationship, I learned she’d gone in severe credit card debt, 50k, (student debt not included) in order to make these vacations she took with her ex worthwhile.

The MLM never actually worked out for her, they were this brainwashed by it and convinced themselves that it would make them “look” successful to potential subjects. And that they would eventually make millions anyway. (This all came out after several of my own attempts to make sense of this for my own peace)

It’s been resentment in our marriage ever since because we cannot buy a home together now because she’s been ignoring her debt to this day.

And the worst part is she is no longer the person I fell in love with. She is not motivated, exciting, conversational or determined.
She attributes being that way when we first got together to the MLM’s training. I’ve told her, those are positive attributes that you could be taking away from that negative and otherwise wasteful experience. But she can’t seem to get it back together.

I will stick by her side

My time dealing with a hun

For context: I work in the quality lab at a chemical company. Nasty chemicals, big dangerous machines, and minimal supervision.

Last year my job hired a lady, my coworkers and I got a bad vibe from her but we wanted to at least give her a chance. At the only one with social media knowledge they asked me to find out any information on her. I found her Instagram. She’s a scentsy hun. Not only is she a scentsy hun but she’s pretty high up on their pyramid. She runs several of their social media pages. I shouldn’t be surprised as she gives off the vibe that she peaked in high school but still thinks she’s hot stuff.

Now for the fun part. She constantly pretended like she didn’t know how to perform certain tests and picked verbal argument with people in production. She’s on her phone 24/7 for her side “job.” Remember the part where I said we work with dangerous chemicals? Yup, she’s was on her phone while messing with those. She was talked to several times but it never stopped. I checked her Instagram periodically because I wanted to know what was so important that she was willing to risk her life posting it.

In the middle of advertising her mlm products she has videos of her spinning around the lab without any safety gear. I began to screen record every time she posted herself break a rule and after about two weeks I was able to present my findings to my manager. My manager was shocked and appalled that someone could be that dumb to post themselves doing things that essentially can increase your risk of cancer significantly.

About a week later hr brought her into their office and she was terminated. I checked her Instagram one last time to find her lastest caption to be, “nothing feels better than leaving a toxic workplace to pursue better things.” Even at the end she was putting her mlm before her job that easily pays the bills.

At the end of the day do I feel bad that I got someone fired? Not really, she did it to herself. She caused so much drama the it felt like the heaviness in the air was lifted. Godspeed to the poor company that hires her next. The thing that shocks me the most to this day is the fact she never tried to sell us any wax melts.

(Thank you for listening. I’m on mobile so sorry if I goofed up anywhere.)
