Dealing with friends in MLM’S
Hi everyone,
I thought I had made a new friend recently but it turns out she’s really into this Level Thrive MLM and I am unsure if I should continue hanging out with them. I was thinking I can maybe ignore that part and continue being friends with her but I don’t know if that can work…
She brought me samples today and was telling me how amazing they are for energy and how I can lose weight etc. I looked up these claims because it seemed sketchy only to see that they are very much a scam and quite possibly dangerous. As someone that already has health issues it scares me that someone can just give this to people claiming they can get off anti-depressants with it, change their life etc. Do you think I should just dip? Or try to ignore it? Stories are encouraged and welcomed. Thanks!

Did I just come across an MLM, or is this just a plain "too good to be true" situation?

21 posts in less than a day
Got added to a Pampered Chef party group and didn't rush to leave it. Noticed soooo many consultant posts in my FB feed it was super annoying. As I scrolled through his increasingly obnoxious pleas for participation to earn "raffle points" I ended up counting the number of posts. This party lasts a WEEK.

What MLM's products are of good or reasonable quality but are still MLMs?
I've heard most MLM products are shitty or even harmful.

What is the “Digital Marketing” scheme going around?
Is it just drop shipping with a weird name? I have a couple friends doing it and it reeks wholly of mlm.

Came across a secretive MLM community - anyone seen anything like this?
I befriended someone who talked about his "mentor" and an entrepreneurial community he's a part of (not the first guy I've met who's been in this position). He himself seems a bit disillusioned/lost with life - to put it bluntly, he's not in an exciting or glamorous career.
My first thought was that the community must be some sort of scam. He was very secretive about it and wouldn't answer a lot of questions, but allowed me to join a session to see for myself. What I saw was that it seemed to be a self-help group where people discussed their problems in life. Everyone actually seemed really nice, charismatic and genuine.
A few days later I had a meeting with my friend's mentor to discuss the community. I of course left with more questions than answers plus the knowledge that they engage in multi level marketing. There's definitely some cult-like elements around the leaders of the unnamed community, and a lot of buzzwords around independence, working for yourself, retiring early, etc.
The irony is that I thought it was some sort of mlm scheme from the very start but the support-community element made it seem different. I don't want to jump to conclusions here, but is this a common tactic - finding relatively disillusioned people and packaging mlm with a supportive community to rope them in?
As an (maybe important) aside, they claim you do not need to recruit people, etc. When I first discussed this with the friend, I asked if they made him pay money and he said no. Not much else has been divulged at this point.

Pissed off my first hun
I work at a liquor store were we host little tastings most weekends. A few weeks ago I was running the tasting bar and having conversation a woman about her birthday plans. The Hun in question overhears us on her way out of the store and comes over to tell the girl happy birthday. She starts digging in her purse and I'm thinking she's gonna give the girl a dollar ir something, and she whips out two little packaged hand creams. She gives one to the girl and one to me and at first I was like, "Aww, thanks" until i realized it was Mary Kay.
This Hun proceeded to take up the girl's time talking about some Barbie Movie themed party she had that was soo much fun and they shoukd exchanbe numbers so Birthday Girl can be invited to the next one. I'm already thinking to myself "Don't you dare ask me for mine cuz I'm gonna hurt your feelings." Sure enough, a minute later, she turns to me and asks for my number so I can get invites too.
I smiled politely, customer service style, and say "Oh, no thanks. I don't do MLMs."
The look on her face was half confused, half like "uh oh she knows." She asked me what I meant and I told her I don't mess with Multi-Level Marketing to which she looked at me condescendingly and asked, "You know what Mary Kay is, right?" Like I'm the dumb one.
I assured her I did and was not interested. She rolled her eyes and backed off, acting like it was my loss.

XCEL Solutions asking for SSN
Hello all. I posted on r/Insurance and got no response so I thought I’d come here. Basically my wife is dooming the XCEL Solutions course and it asked for her SSN right at the end when she’s almost finished. We have already shared our disdain for XCEL but she wishes to get it over with anyway. Is it legit?

Help please, what is the nicest way to tell my friend she’s about to join an MLM?
My friend, Alice, is currently interested in switching careers and become a financial advisor. Last week, Alice asked if I could help her with a requirement to complete a training demonstration with her and her mentor. I realize now that was a red flag.
It wasn’t until I got to the meetup that I realized she’s in the process of joining World Financial Group. Also, according to Alice, her cousin has been a part of the group for around 2-3 years now and has been successful so she’s optimistic she will reach the same level of success.
At this time, Alice hasn’t left her current job but she is planning to do so in the next month or two. I would be very appreciative of any assistance on how I can let my friend know she’s about to join an MLM. Thank you.
