Pomifera: An MLM not spoken about enough. My 17yo sister was scammed out of over $100 by a relative selling this stuff, with a promise it would cure her acne. It was no more effective than plain water.

Funny MLMish story
When I had just turned 16, my uncle was getting married to a woman, my now aunt. My mom was invited to her wedding shower, and because my grandma couldn't go(lucky grandma), my mom asked if she could bring me. I had met this lady before, she knew how old I was, and said 'sure!' and nothing else.
Mom and I show up with our gift, see that no one else has brought one but otherwise seems normal until the lady hosting the party gets started. It's a Pure Romance party. The lady starts going on about creams and toys and really pushing a remote controlled vibrator for my aunt. My aunt, her sisters and her mom are super into it, excited to buy things for my aunt and themselves and earn 'extra gifts' for my aunt by buying. My mom did NOT know how to react - and when they handed around a vibrator to 'feel the power', she had to hand it to me, totally mortified.
My mom is way too polite to ever cause a scene, and when she had a minute to discretely ask if I was ok with what was being said, I made sure to give her a reassuring smile/laugh, and say no worries. We endure the party, buy nothing, shrug off the push to 'sell products to our friends so we can earn our own toys' and escape.
We got into the car and my mom was SO apologetic, she obviously had NO idea and couldn't understand why she hadn't been warned when she had asked about bringing me. I said 'Good thing GRANDMA didn't go!' (For the record, Grandma would have caused A SCENE.) We laughed and laughed and went home.
To this day, when my mom asks me to go somewhere with her, I say 'It's not a sex party though right?!?!?' 🤣😈

Help me convince my mom Norwex laundry detergent is bad
My mom loves norwex and is slowly replacing everything in our house with norwex and its driving me crazy. Ive just kind of been ignoring it but the laundry is starting to bother me and if i try and buy my own detergent she shames me. Im not sciencey and i dont know exactly whats making it bad but i do have a nose and i can tell its bad. I guess shes just used to it and dosnt notice. But does anyone know what exactly is making it not smell good or have any resource to prove its not good? Like is it lacking specific ingredients or anything important?

Pure Romance 😈
I just joined this thread and was reminded of the most cringe MLM I have ever been introduced to. 4 years ago, I had this boyfriend who hung out with his co-workers a lot, and he especially liked this one guy, Bruce, and his wife (I don't remember her name so let's call her Lisa) are both in their late 40's. For context, I was 24 then, and the guy I was with was 27. Bruce and Lisa invited us over one night because Bruce said he had just grown a bunch of excellent marijuana, and he wanted us to come to check it out. I thought it would be weird to hang out with them, but I decided who I was to judge?? Well... We got there, and Bruce and my boyfriend immediately went out to see the plants, leaving me there with Lisa. Lisa looks at me and says, "The real reason we wanted you guys to come by was to check out my new business!". My gut sank like I just heard a gunshot. Disassociation began to kick in, and my ears started ringing as she pulled out... Pure Romance. I couldn't believe my eyes. She was asking me if I GET PLEASURE FROM SEX. The spiral began. This woman, a stranger to me, asked for my hand and put spicy lube on it. Then came the pamphlets and, last but not least, the toys. There I was, standing in this woman's home office surrounded by all her failed MLM attempts, boxes of self-printed tees, and old lamination machines... and now these vibrators were going off in my face. I think I began sweating when she asked me to hold one. I wondered, "Is this real life?" Lord, I had no idea what I was getting into that night. I don't recall how it ended; I know I got out of there, and she insisted I take a few packets of the spicy lube and some self-tanner. Oh, and they never let you leave without the business card.

Uber driver tried to recruit me, then…
Stay with me, the story comes full circle.
So I had plans to hang out with a girl I met at a performance who ironically went to the same high school as me across the country one year behind me— she seemed super cool and like a fun person to have a girls night with.
I took an Uber to the bar we were meeting at and during the drive the driver (a man in his late 40s driving an old car) asked what I did for a living besides modeling (which I don’t, but in LA that is a very common “nicety” to say to a woman) and I said I work in advertising. He said “Wow, I advertise products too!”
Immediately I am feigning enthusiasm because whatever is about to come out his mouth next is either going to be about his side hustle as a pimp or some pyramid scheme bullshit.
He goes on to lift a stack of BINDERS from the passenger seat to me and says he represents a company that sells I cannot remember because the binders literally slipped into a cascade of laminated scammery onto the backseat floor— probably some Amway shit and how this company makes millionaires out of regular people every day.
I really don’t want to patronize this dude, so I just ask how much he knows about the company’s founders. He said with his whole chest “Well the owner is the SON of the man who founded it! And this man said, ‘I never finished high school. And yet here I am about to close on my new 2 million dollar home in Miami.’ So you KNOW this works!”
Without an ounce of irony. Without a pinch of awareness that he is driving a car with cigarette burns in the backseat headrest to likely eke by on payments for a studio apartment and however the fuck much money this scam demands of him per month.
It was so sad and so hopeless I decided to just smile and nod and vent to my new friend when I got to the bar.
He drops me off, hands me his paper printout “business card” (bless his fucking soul) and I immediately show it to the girl I was meeting with and unleash a rant:
“Girl. My Uber driver just tried to get me in on the pyramid scheme MLM he’s been scammed into. He’s been brainwashed by the bullshit and it is just so sad to see how the most vulnerable people get conned into paying money they do not have to chase dreams they will not fulfill. I fucking hate MLMs.”
…and this girl then tells me she actually sells doTerra and isn’t “brainwashed” or “being scammed” and that I needed to “do my research.”
We had one awkward drink and never spoke again.

Another reason to hate MLMs. I went to wash my hands at my In-laws and the soap felt gummy and sticky and didn’t foam up. I looked closer and it was not soap, but AVON toothpaste made to *look* like soap 😑

Year 27 of MLM xmas gifts from my aunt.
I am 27 years old and I believe I’ve received an MLM gift every single year. This year she did reached a new record by giving me hand lotion from both Mary Kay AND Lemongrass Spa. It feels like the devil’s moisturizer.
She also spent about 20 minutes telling us about all the different scents of Lemongrass products and going “Who wants one? Who likes gingerbread? Who exfoliates??”
This can only be topped by the Christmas she gave me a Beach Body exercise DVD. I WAS 12 AT THE TIME.

So I bought into Primerica... Need Help
So my sister was told by a friend that she could sell some insurance remotely (the friend isn't a rep), and she ended up contacting a rep. She paid for getting her insurance license. Her husband then did, too, and so did I without looking it all up until now. I should've known better for all of us.
Is there any way to get our money back? I don't want to get deep into it. Is getting an insurance license even worth it?
My sister and her husband are in school and work at Amazon.
I'm halfway done into an MBA program and work with AbbVie as a contracted worker.
Would we benefit from having an insurance license and finding part-time jobs or anything?
Thanks in advance.

Fun thing I remembered from when I almost accidentally joined a MLM
To set the scene, I was 19, broke, and not very wise. A friend of mine told me about a lady named Gail she had met who was a total sweetheart. Gail took my friend out to eat at Panera Bread, and was telling all about her jewelry business! How she was so successful, she'd like my friend to join her business, and my friend should tell her friends. I'm sure you can see where this is going. I ended up meeting with Gail at Panera (as a broke 19 year old I was greatful for the free meal)
Her pitch was a basic MLM pitch, I was none the wiser until I went home to my boyfriend at the time and explained to me exactly how predatory the whole scheme was.
The fun thing I remembered, she was asking me about my "network". She asked me if I still lived in my childhood home. When I told her I didn't, she suggested going to my childhood home, introducing myself to the new owners/old neighbors, and trying to sell them this cheap shitty jewelry. I remember thinking how absolutely absurd that would be, and how I would certainly not be doing that. I lurk this sub because I like the absurdity of it, and thought you all might like to hear this. Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

Does anyone know anything about Dulife/Manulife?
I just went to a "talk" a couple weeks ago by one of their agents" that was a prosecution lawyer in Australia before coming here , note that I ended up there cus I met another agent who asked if I wanted to go there and from what I've seen she met a ton of people just so if they would become "potential clients" . I thought the whole idea sounded really sus" and didn't knew what to do with this. Idk how to share the recording but I've briefly talked about it to my therapist and she made a comment saying that it "sounds like an mlm" which I'm not sure about since it was a life insurance company.
I'm due to meet the vice president of Dulife in January and was hoping to ask if there's anything I could know before going into this?
Is this a company I should avoid, or it's people?
