TLS / “Light System” — is this MLM-ish (teams/commissions/recruiting) or just a pricey funnel with MLM vibes?
Hey y’all, quick q. I keep seeing “TLS / The Light System” pop up in the wellness/spiritual space and it’s giving me strong MLM-adjacent vibes, but I can’t tell if it’s an actual MLM or just borrowing the same playbook.
Like… the whole thing feels very “get in the room,” “life-changing,” “you gotta commit,” big-ticket $$$, lots of “leaders/facilitators/mentors,” and people talking it up like they’re basically reps even if nobody says “rep.” You know what I mean.
What I’m trying to figure out is the *structure*:
* Is there a comp plan?
* referral codes / “sign up under me” type stuff?
* ranks/levels/teams?
* commission based on recruiting or “group volume”?
* onboarding calls, scripts, trainings, “duplicate the system,” etc?
Because from the outside it kinda looks like: expensive product + hype events + social proof + pressure + “community” = the same funnel-y ecosystem MLMs run, even if it’s technically “not an MLM.”
I’m **not** asking if the product “works” medically or anything like that (not trying to do personal/medical stuff here). I’m also not posting screenshots, names, handles, or telling anyone to contact/report anyone. Just wanna know: **does this thing have the usual MLM bones underneath it, or nah?**
If anyone here has seen the back-end (like an actual comp plan doc, affiliate portal, recruiting incentives, whatever), what should I be looking for? Keep replies public in the comments pls.

Wife is hearing out Primerica.
My wife was introduced to the company by a mutual friend. My wife is brilliant and has been in the banking industry for 13 years. She wants to change gears and get into helping people with their finances and was told Primerica may be a good start. My brief Google/Reddit search would've had me sprinting the other way but she wants to meet with them. She has not disregarded my warnings and is planning on taking them seriously. I want her to feel I support her because I do I just want her to be knowledgeable enough thay she can see through the nonsense as quick as possible. In order to do both without seeming like im overbearing I feel I should ask people for the best questions for her to ask to help cut through the bullshit and see what's up. Any advise is helpful.
I should note she is in no rush to leave her current job and is merely browsing around to see if any companies around us fit and is not dead set on them.

I’m wondering if this is an MLM. Brand new branch opened in Virginia Beach. They claim to be a world-wide company with opportunities to make so much money. They sell rainbow products by Rexair. Like $300 air purifiers, vacuums and “medical devices” for people with asthma and emphysema.
There’s no cold-calling for sales people. They’re claiming to be hiring an HR department. And they have openings for lots of departments. The seminars seem like the guy is trying to sell us the products.
It’s a 1099 job too. Independent contractor job. But I’m super confused about it all. Give me your thoughts.

Young living: first MLM experience
In 2017 at church one of the pastors wives kept talking about Young Living and how they were going to a big conference after. Some details that I learned : young living doesn’t just sell oils they also sell a bunch of “health” stuff. For example they have this drink called ningxia red and they shill that too (80 bucks a bottle). As for the oils they clean with it, diffuse it, put it on their skin, and sometimes drink it with water. This is not medically recommended by anyone sane but some drink it nonetheless. the guy that started it is their leader he calls himself a doctor but he’s really not he claims the oils saved him from cancer. It’s great to hear that they are stopping the MLM business hopefully more to come! I want the “financial” industry mlms to fall next.

UGC-Recruiting?
Hello fellow Anti-MLMers! I was wondering if any of you had some insight.
I follow an old coworker on instagram that used to be in Monat. Thankfully, she got out around 2023, and started doing UGC.
I know that UGC actually pays you for the videos you do, which is great! But now she’s starting to post things like “wanna join the UGC team? Comment below and I’ll DM you!”…like she’s trying to recruit people? She had a ton of posts like that now.
I’m wondering if you do also get some sort of recruiting bonus? Or maybe her *mindset* is too far into MLMs? OR maybe it’s something like a UCG “masterclass” that she’s selling?
I don’t know, I was just curious if anyone has heard of UGC recruiting. Let me know 😊

The time a scentsy hun assaulted me because I have a fragrance allergy and I asked her not to use samples in the classroom
I already posted this story a long time ago but I deleted that account. I figure I'd repost this story about why I freaking hate scentsy.
I was in college and the Hun was what we called a mature student. She was in her 40s and was in my program. One problem I've always had is that I have a fragrance allergy/sensitivity. I also recently was diagnosed with asthma and I've probably had it all my life. When I'm exposed to fragrance I get itchy, get a rash and most inconveniently my breathing gets choked up. In most situations if it's on a person I can just move away.
This hun insisted on sampling body sprays and scentsy wax melts before class in the lecture hall. Unfortunately my college had a thing where there was a set schedule so I had all my classes with her. I asked her in person not to do it and she gave me some sparky remark about how I wasn't the boss of her and she needed the money to support her kids. My friends then caught her spraying where I usually sat with perfume. I walked in got sick and immediately went to the clinic on campus. The nurse prescribed me a rescue inhaller and helped me email my program chair about the incident.
The very same day every student in my program gets an email about how scented products are strictly forbidden in lecture halls. Our one professor went on a rant about how we where supposed to be training to work with kids with physical and intellectually disabilities/delays and how important it is not to use heavy fragrance around them.
Hun was not happy and during that same lecture as I was leaving she walked straight up to me and sprayed me in the face I loudly yelled "What the F*ck is your problem!". My friends got into a verbal altercation with her and I got carted off to the nurses office. I had to throughly scrub my face in the sink and thank goodness I wear glasses. I emailed the program chair what happened and they had security cameras in the room.
Sadly she didn't get kicked out of the program. She got forcibly switched to a different schedule, so we'd be apart. She became a pariah in our program since she was 40 something bullying a 18 year old.
Sadly this isn't the first or last time my allergy has been weponized against me. My in-law did the same.thing she knew if I was coming over she'd crank up every scentsy wax warmer in the house. Jokes on her now she's got so much wax residue on the walls last I saw it will be next to impossible to repaint without heavy chemicals or steam to strip it off.
I also had a coworker do the same thing. I was the cleaner and she refused to turn the wax warmer off in her office so I refused to clean it and girl was a slob so she ended up with moldy food in her office. She finally relented but from time to time I would come to work and my cleaning closet door would smell like body spray. I could never prove it was her though.

Has anyone heard of Minut?
So on a local business page on Facebook, I came across a woman pitching a webinar. Went to the website she linked and it looked like a pretty simple copy + paste job. Did a Google search for some of the text on the page, found 2 or 3 others just like it. Each page has some vague information about "flexible incomes while working from home"; always the same story as well. Mum of 1 or 2 kids, high-flying corporate employee who never got time with her family, a couple of testimonials with about 5 common testimonies across all the pages. Each page also has a lock image as the browser icon.
I did an inspect on the page which showed some assets being retrieved from asset-landingi, which is a login page for a Minut account.
When I search for Minut, I see it's some kind of platform + sensor for short-term rental landlords that gives info about smoking, noise, crowd detection....basically all of the usual invasion of privacy stuff.
I'd never heard of this before, let alone seen anyone pitching it. Have I ended up in the right place? Is Minut operating under an MLM model? Keen to see if anyone has heard of them.

how does amway even work?
Can someone kindly explain to me what the deal is with Amway? I'm very anti-mlm, I'm quite familiar with ones like Monat and Young Living, MLMs that are 'network marketing' and 'direct sales' based. I work at a small liquor store and i just had a customer begin asking me about my future plans and what i want to do with my life (lol). It was a nice conversation, but then she of course began talking about Amway and how it's an amazing 'side hustle' to have an extra income stream. She even mentioned how new people joining right now 'will get the first year for free.' First year of what for free?!
I generally know the problems with Amway, but what on earth does this company actually do? Are they selling a product, or courses? I shut her down right away, I've seen the way companies like Amway destroy peoples' lives and I have no interest in getting involved, but I'm just curious as to the way this company runs and how exactly people are supposed to be making money (even though I know they don't).

Curious about a potential recruitment in my early 20’s- was I approached by an Amway rep?
I graduated college in my early 20’s and was interviewing, networking, etc to find a full time job. One day, this girl who interned at the same place right before me reached out on LinkedIn to talk about “opportunities at her company”, which I thought meant at the actual legitimate company she worked for full time. She asks me to meet up for coffee, where she starts off fairly normal (asking about interests, my time in school, job searching, etc) but suddenly pivots to talking about a leadership program she is in. she talks about how amazing it is and how much she has grown and learned, and how she knows a couple who retired early because of it. I was super confused because again..I thought we were there to talk about a legit job. So naturally I tried to ask questions about what exactly the opportunity would be, and she would only give vague answers that told me absolutely nothing about the company. Then as we are leaving, some guy behind us pipes up and apparently he was listening to our conversation the whole time. Felt super weird and creepy. After this, I followed up on LinkedIn to get more info on the name of the company (Fireside I think?) and then she tells me “it’s not a good fit” after I simply asked questions about the company. My gut told me it was an MLM but I could not find any information on this company at all. Based on the posts here it sounds like maybe she was recruiting for Amway. Thoughts here or anyone have a similar experience?
Her LinkedIn profile has this listed as some kind of e-commerce/leadership program. Not clear at all on what they even do.
