Facing Severe Withdrawal From the Missing Mary Kay Jacket Saga

"The Promotions Company" - UK - Big MLM

This has also been posted on r/Devilcorp .

After applying to a bunch of retail and sales roles on Indeed, I was contacted by someone representing "The Promotions Company".

I did not see any such applications on Indeed, but I traced it to a job posting listed by "Hirematic" (which is an AI-powered recruitment marketing platform), given that the postcode matches that of the job.

Everything seemed fine initially, including in the Zoom Call that I was asked to attend first; I was quickly invited in to a face-to-face interview.

This is where red flags started to appear. Firstly, they barely had a following on social media or on LinkedIn. Then, their website was a very low-effort Wordpress site. Finally, despite the office in Chelmsford supposedly being open since October/November 2024, it was not listed on Google Maps (until I added it) and the office itself was basically empty. They didn't even have a sign, instead having a "we are here" kind of hand-written whiteboard in front of the door for those of us attending the interview. Very unprofessional for a supposedly huge sales/marketing firm.

The interview itself was mostly fine (although very long) with an array of people (although many were 19/20 years old), until we got near the end and it was explained that the role would be 100% commission-based with no base salary and consisted of door-to-door sales (or being setup somewhere). We were also shown incentivising images of people making £1000 a week or more from this role, which we could do too if we put in the work. A lot of it would be getting people to sign up to subscriptions to charities and such as well, although they happily proclaimed working with huge names like Google and such.

After the interview, I was immediately offered the job, but I told them I'd hold off as I was still exploring other options. They were incredibly enthusiastic in getting me to join up ASAP however, which was an odd experience. At the time I was obviously overjoyed as I have been unemployed for a fair while, however my partner was far more sceptical.

I then spent several hours that evening looking into this company and ended up going down an insane rabbit-hole, which included me finding this sub and r/Devilcorp , amongst some very negative reviews.

Firstly, the address for their head office in Bristol lists about 8 different companies, notably:

\- THE PROMOTIONS SPECIALISTS LTD

\- EMPIRE MARKETING GROUP LTD

\- ADWAY MARKETING LTD

\- RESOLUTE MARKETING GROUP LTD

The thing about these companies is that their websites ALL have the exact same promotional images AND text. I was therefore able to link the directors of all of the above "businesses", but I do not know where the top of the pyramid actually is. "Empire Marketing" and "Adway Marketing" are also both run by the exact same person, with (I believe) one of them being based in Exeter and the other having been dissolved.

Funnily enough, the director of "Resolute Marketing Group" is the exact same guy who held the interviews in the Chelmsford office. I ended up doing a reverse Google Image Search on him and found that he was also linked to yet another company called "Hydra Sales Group", based in London.

Therefore, "The Promotions Company", "Adway Marketing", "Empire Marketing Group", "Resolute Marketing Group", AND "Hydra Sales Group", are all part of the same MLM/Pyramid.

Nearly all of these companies have been posted about on this sub, or on Devilcorp, with some claiming that they have further links to BriteVox and AppCo.

Newport Associates travel company is actually my evolution travel

Cross posted this to r/scams. What the title says. Job advertisement on LinkedIn. The website is newport.associates. I googled the name and only found one post about Newport and Associates but stupidly didn't read it thoroughly so this is on me, but it's presented as a Travel planner gig based on commission/sales and they send you a link thirty minutes into the webinar that links to My Evolution Travel and one highly Google search showed it's clearly an MLM. Public chat was turned off so no way to warn others. I just left the webinar. I ignored all the red flags screaming at me cause I needed a job, but I'll be more discerning in the future.

10 years out of Amway and I realise it is a cult

I’ve been watching a lot of cult documentaries and can’t believe how Amway is exactly the same with the tactics they use to rope people in. I am really ashamed that when I was 17, I was roped into Amway. I am autistic and struggled to make friends so when someone at work showed interest in me, I was so excited. It turned into showing the products (without mentioning what they were) and then dropping hints about her side business. I was proud of her for owning a business at such a young age and wanted to support her, so I asked more about it. There were so many buzzwords, and she spoke so much without saying anything at all. She told me to come to a seminar to learn more about her products and their benefits. I thought it would be an actual medical professional or some kind of allied health presentation but it was Amway supplements. At this point I’d never heard of Amway, never heard of MLMs, and the brand name was barely thrown around. I remember being so bored and thinking “wtf is this”. But she was so encouraging and happy that I came, and after we got to hang out.

These people preyed on my insecurities and knew I would jump at the chance of making friends. I did. I went to this “information night” not aware I was being sold something, so my guard was down, and I bought it. I signed up, and treated every “meeting” like a hangout. I was underage so I had to sign up using my mum’s name, who tried to reason with me but saw how happy I was to have friends and permitted it. I even travelled interstate for a “conference”. The tactics they taught were very similar to cults, where you need to think and speak a certain way, and YOU have absolute control over everything that happens, so any failure is YOUR fault, and poor people are losers. We had to idolise the platinum member that brought us all together because he was like Jesus. We were all his minions and he was a celebrity (a 30yo loser who had absolutely no friends except his MLM downlines). He bragged about his international trips that Amway afforded him, and told us all how poor people suck and university is a waste of time. The whole vibe was “always grinding” and other lame motivational quotes for people that have no talent but want to make bank.

After a while they realised I was not dedicated. Truthfully, I never gave a crap about the business no matter how hard I tried. I just wanted friends, and they exploited that. It was painful to get out of my contract and I was literally SHUNNED by the community when I left. I could not believe how iced out I was. It feels almost like religious trauma, because of how horrible I felt about myself during and after. Being autistic I am used to not fitting the mould society creates for us, but the cult-like structure of Amway amplified that by the thousands and I felt ashamed that I could not conform to their idea of success. I couldn’t alienate my friends or family like they demanded. I have enough trouble with social cues and knowing when people are being friendly, so I’m embarrassed I misconstrued that initial “friendship”.

Also, big red flags they are recruiting underage people. Most of my cohort were school kids! Same age as me or younger. It’s horrifying.

I recommend readingthis page that draws comparisons of cultism to Amway.

Was the cover of the 1990 Wilson Phillips album the progenitor of Monat hun style?

Seriously, go take a look at it and tell me they don't look like the three legs of a Monat downline. Ripped jeans, wide brimmed hat, semi-Western style clothes, boots, etc.

Avoiding an MLM pitch

Had a friend/client for about 12 years (I'm in a home service business).

Thought he was doing reasonably well - retired on a generous state level pension, his wife still works doing hospital admin - a pretty well compensated executive job.

Called me out of the blue while I was away on a trip.

It wasn't to hire me to help him with the usual stuff I do.
"I'm launching a new business, but it's something I can't discuss in a minute or two. " He said.

"Sure, I'll call you when I get back." I replied (no intention to call him back).

That sure as heck sounded like typical MLM talk - to get me "invested in the process" we would have to either have a long phone convo or meet in person.

He's been calling at least once a day but doesn't leave a message - another sign that he doesn't need my services - if that were the case he would text me or leave me a VM. I've dealt with thousands of people over the years - not a single one of them, if they needed my help in the context of my service offerings, has been shy about leaving a message.

Anyhow - does this sound like he's gotten the MLM bug and is looking for me to join?

Enagic now advertise as IKONIC

In the last few days there has been a few ads coming up for IKONIC. After a little deep digging (and hassling huns) I have found that this is what some Enagic pushers are now using to try and convince people they are flogging things other than their magic water cult.

After telling her that she should not be so ashamed of the mob she joined up with,  Sharon S Sandhu finally admitted that is who she is with. Immediately after telling me that she blocked me. They sure do not like it when you get them to slip up and tell you who they are scamming for before they get you sucked in! More and more people are exposing their cults on these ads I find. And they sure do not like it one little bit. Maybe just some of them are going to get their conscience pricked and more will start to turn from this garbage

I’ve been recruited into a subsidiary of FFL and just googled them. Now I’m ducking terrified.

Only a month in, minimal policies written because I have a sales background and don’t listen to the 1-call-close bs that people push.

They a subsidiary and a friend pulled me in.

What should I do?

Has anyone left and had a good experience?

I recently was poached by Amway reps. I had shared some videos and how Amway is a scam. I already blocked the Amway reps, but one of the last messages I got before blocking them was they brought up our mutual friend who was with Amway with them for a couple of months and insisted this friend had a good experience. That they’ve seen many people come and go, some people leave having enjoyed their experience and some people leave disgruntled.

What has been your experience?

Edit: Oh God you guys hilarious 😂 I meant do you or do you know someone who had a good experience in it and left anyway?
