MLM Downturn?
I can’t decide if there’s been a downturn in MLM presence in recent years…or if it’s just my station in life.
Before I begin, I know the MLM monster still exists to pray on the many while supporting the few. I’m definitely not disputing that.
So here’s the heart of the question: I live in an upper-middle suburb in the South. This is prime-picking for MLMs. Women whose spouses make enough money that they don’t work, but who are searching for something for themselves as their kids grow up.
And there was a time — probably 10-12 years ago — when I couldn’t go a day without being invited to a Younique party, or added to a BeachBody recipe group, or asked to take a closer look at the BeautyCounter opportunity. It was one after another, and a dozen different brands.
Some of the companies folded, some rebranded or went affiliate, some are still around. But my social media is almost totally void of any now. One woman who has been on the verge of making it big with Paparazzi for the last eight years is still at it and I have a family member who posts cryptic messages about “being intentional” and “taking a leap of faith.” (She’s never said it, but I’d bet money on Enagic)
But that’s about all. It’s crickets. No more videos of women showering in their bathing suits, washing their hair, and touting the virtues of Monat. No one inviting me over to smell the new Scentsy line. No one telling me that Rodan & Fields can actually reverse time.
So that’s the question: have I gotten to the age where most women have figured out that there is nothing to be gained from an MLM “career?” Or is there a real downturn in the number of high-profile, mass-market MLM companies?

The thing I’ll never understand
Everyone I know who’s in an MLM has another, normal job too. I don’t know if this is more common in the UK? It’s used more as a “side hustle” or for extra income.
But they still all use the same slop along the lines of “being a mum is hard, juggling work, kids, bills, food shopping, cooking, cleaning… so why not make your life easier, give yourself extra options and extra money”.
Surely having a second job where you have to create social media posts, built a platform, beg people to join, attend “conferences” etc just going to add to the workload??? Who falls for this stuff?!

I look like an easy target
I dont know how it is in other countries but here you occasionally see MLMers outside retailers trying to sell you some sort of “subscription” or card or something. Once, they even contradicted themselves in conversation, admitting they were trying to recruit people. With me, it seems like people can smell out my personality like the plague. I think it has been that way since primary school. I am timid, sensitive, naive, weak, and tend to make excuses for people. So these MLMers will lurk outside the store and not talk to enyone inside but come inside to only talk to me. They come with this charismatic persona and will not stop pestering in hope that i will feel guilty to turn them down. The deceitful flattery also grieves me. Unfortunately, I have given them some banking info because of my inferiority complex, and my bank still needs to get back to me about a new card which i should follow up on. These people take advantage of a culture in which people are generally friendly. I fear i will turn out like a grouchy old lady, not knowing if someone is genuine and ethical or not. I have been told i can always say no with a smile but this is draining; it doesnt exactly work. I dont know what to do.

now the question arises that do MLMs spend some or any part of their income on actual R&D or improvement and innovation of their product?
These MLMs use the product as a disguise or a mask to avoid them getting labelled as a pyramid scheme but my question is that are these products of any practical use? do these products actually work for anyone?
Their products do have certifications, trademarks, and patents so what do they mean? Do these labels even mean anything in terms of the quality of the product?

OPTAVIA rebrands to Trilivy
A former colleague I've stayed connected with on social media lost some weight and became a "Certified Independent Health Coach."
At first, I was genuinely happy for her. But it didn't take long before her posts started giving off cult-like vibes. Eventually she shared an invite to an informational session, and the password was "Optavia." It was already pretty obvious she was involved in an MLM, but that confirmed it.
I still follow her because it's weirdly fascinating. She's completely bought in and seems committed for the long haul. She projects this image of success with trips to Florida, "exclusive" dinners with the CEO, and all the usual MLM fanfare. Then you look at her Instagram and most posts barely get a single like.
It's entertaining, but I also feel bad for her family. They have to be confused, and probably exhausted by it. Optavia has become her entire personality. It's awkward, it's strange, and honestly a little sad.
Just an FYI, they're now going by Trilivy, so keep an eye out.

I work at a bakery in a grocery store and one of my regulars asked if I was looking for another job and asked me to meet with her over zoom about a company her and her husband work for. I’m very desperate for another job as I’m working and saving to get out of a bad situation while also going to college and this seemed like a way to make some extra money without working too often, so I went against my better judgment and signed their documents after our first interview. After doing more research I saw a lot of people saying it’s a scam and you’ll pay more than you receive. I know this was really stupid of me, but I haven’t spent any money with them yet for a license or anything and I’m not going to start working for them. How do I get out of this?

MLMs in Australia
We have had Amway,Herbalife and Thermamix for years and more recently we have had Monat and Kangen and I have seen here Bravenly is trying to establish a beach head.
My question is how do these MLMS grow, we are not a religious country so people don't have the church and other communities to try and recruit.
I know a lot of the Kangen cult say they do online advertising (i have not seen a single one).
We are a small country and i am struggling to understand how these organisations have organic growth without churches etc to recruit from.
