Big and major Ramayana updates
1 . Namit Malhotra and Charles Roven have brought Christopher Nolan and Hoyte van Hoytema on board for a 72-day intensive period starting in August 2026. Having already familiarized himself with the story, Nolan will do the final cut of the film, and Jennifer Lame will do the editing under his direction. Van Hoytema will take full charge of the visual finish, directing every aspect of the color grading and the technical mastering for IMAX screens. Nitesh Tiwari is excited to work alongside Nolan as this process will go on until October 22 in preparation for the November 8 release.
2 . The Ramayana production team initially struggled with the extreme weight of the IMAX cameras, which weighed over 100kg and were very difficult to move quickly. However, the crew eventually got used to the bulky equipment and learned to use specialized cranes and heavy-duty rigs to handle the weight
3 . Although Shridhar Raghavan is credited, his actual contribution to the script was minimal, as the primary work was completed by Nitesh Tiwari and a specialized team of experts. This group handled the foundational elements of the project: Dr. Arshia Sattar conducted the textual research, V. Balakrishnan developed the dialogue and tone, and Abhinandan Gupta organized the story structure. Furthermore, Khyati Anand-Puthran managed the character arcs while Niren Bhatt oversaw the mythological and supernatural components, leaving the core of the screenplay to these consultants
4 . The politicians invited to the event have faced significant criticism for their actions and practices. Recently, the film’s PR team and producers met to discuss this. The PR team advised against the Ram Navmi event with those politicians, citing potential backlash. To avoid any negativity around the film, Namit canceled those plans. The asset scheduled for release on Ram Navmi may or may not proceed, as the makers are now prioritizing Comic Con
5 . Prior to the 2023 commencement of filming for Ramayana, costume designer Colleen Atwood established a formal professional collaboration with Rimple and Harpreet Narula. The partnership functioned to integrate Atwood’s technical experience in film costuming with the Narulas’ proficiency in traditional Indian textiles and embroidery. This combined effort focused on developing a cohesive wardrobe that met the specific historical and functional requirements of the production. The resulting designs utilized authentic artisanal methods to create the attire for the film's primary cast
6. The film's festival and screening schedule begins July 23, 2026, at San Diego Comic-Con, followed by specialized screenings at the Toronto (September 10) and Pingyao (September 23) film festivals. International red-carpet events will take place at the BFI London Film Festival on October 7 and the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 25. In India, a "Mega South Summit" is scheduled for November 3 at Ramoji Film City, followed by a state screening at Rashtrapati Bhavan on November 5 and a grand premiere at NMACC, Mumbai, on November 7. Actor Yash will also lead a dedicated fan event in Bengaluru on November 1 to mobilize the South Indian market
7 . Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana (2026) is projected to become the second widest cinematic release in history, trailing only Avengers: Endgame (2019). By securing approximately 42,500 screens worldwide…including a landmark 20,000-screen rollout in China and over 4,500 in North America…the film will establish the largest initial footprint ever for a non-Hollywood production. While Endgame maintains the record with an estimated 100,000 screens at its peak, Ramayana represents the first instance of an Indian film achieving this level of global saturation
