to say the least, it's a movie that will make you feel a pain you may or may not have ever remotely experienced. the three actors in the film - Naseeruddin, Vedang and Sharvari are quite literally to die for. While Naseeruddin was always expected to be great and Sharvari had a short yet enigmatic part - it was Vedang who totally stole the show. Every frame, every emotion, every action was so effortless that no point during the film could i tell it Vedang was just a few films old.
But the biggest problem that this film did not start well at the box office is not its genre. All genres are failing at box office so let's not pretend Imtiaz Ali is out of touch or some. The worst part was the marketting - to sell it is a Diljit's film. IT IS NOT.
He isn't even the third most important character. He is only the anchor or a lens through which the audience is understanding the film. His part is mostly flat and so is his performance. Quite underwhelming in many scenes too. This whole facade of him being the star of the film and the best performance is really not it. If they really wanted to attract younger audience, they should have sold it as a Vedang Sharvari film. They were in the promotions but on the poster or in the trailer, Diljit has the biggest billing.
It's a good thing the audience is finally catching upto it because - well it's a really good film. But the marketting team lost on its chance to heavily capitalize on this fresh pair with songs being played repetitively except mascara which had some people grooving to it.

Seriously though, why don't big commercial as well as acclaimed filmmakers work with Akshay Kumar? Why doesn't Aditya Dhar offer HIM anything? He's a capable enough actor and yet even back then Yash Chopra, Bhansali or Karan Johar never cast him as a lead in their directorials.
