California activists who oppose bill introduced that makes selling children for sex, a felony. The activists complain that the bill will target LGBTQ community and people of color, because they do it more. Their issue is that they don't want to criminalize the act, they say they want to "fight the cause". But they fail to understand that their ideology is a huge part of the cause.

It´s astounding how close our time is to the conditions that led to the rise of Julius Caesar in Rome
- Rome was being fleeced by a greedy elite (called the Optimates) who were monopolising land with usury and slave labour
- These elites were migrating huge volumes of slaves to work the fields for low wages (sound familiar?)
- This drove down the price of labour and ended up pushing native Romans out of work and off their land
- The elites would buy up these vacant family farms and move more slaves onto them
- These same elites would then give out loans to these broke Romans to help them "set up a new life in the city", which would put them into debt slavery
- The city of Rome itself swole up with a huge disgruntled class of poor veterans, native Romans, and recently migrated slaves (sound familiar?)
- These formed a jaded underclass while the elites lived in slave supported luxury
- Roman soldiers would go abroad and risk their lives conquering territory for Rome in hope of "making it", only to get underpaid, and then come back to find their families replaced by slaves from the place they just conquered (sound familiar?)
- Caesar was one of the elites who sided with the native Romans - known as a Populist
- He used "the People" as a force to pushback against the elites and drive through reforms that limited debt slavery
- Through decades of ruthless civil war he came out the winner, but was infamously assassinated by the elites for subverting their grip on Rome

Tell someone their duolingo streak is unimportant or they wasted their lives playing dark souls and they get mad. They get mad because they sacrificed something for these things, despite being utterly unimportant in day to day life. Yet they give meaning to people. Small pseudoreligions like football teams are similar in the fact that it gives meaning to people too, it might even make people fight each other for them thanks to ideological conflicts. Political opinions also reenter here, so some of these "religions" are natural, others not
