Linux Elite Dangerous multi monitor setup
I hope it will be useful for other CMD'rs.
I was struggling to find information that would work how to set up ED to run on multi monitor wide screen.

xrandr suggestions did not work for me.
But found that all I had to do was to run
winecfg-proton for pfx
export STEAMCOMPATDATAPATH=/home/artur/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/359320
export WINEPREFIX=${STEAMCOMPATDATAPATH}/pfx/
winecfg-proton
and setup virtual screen (sorry for language on screenshot but it uses system wide config)
check Emulate Virtual Desktop and write it's size ..

This way original desktop is untouched and ED is runing across multiple monitors ...
Which is a completely different experience ..

Frontier Forums Down?

Anyone else getting a similar error when trying to view the frontier forums for elite dangerous? Started happening about 15 minutes ago and I assumed it was just my internet but other sites are working fine for me.
EDIT: Forum is now apparently in maintenance mode.

This game is really just a few updates away from its potential.
I tried SC on the free week, after two days of crashes and frame rates that made it barely playable and some pretty bad shooter moments that didn't not feel great to play I'm kinda not seeing they hype there.
When I loaded elite some pretty immediate things are apparent.
Controller support is completely well done and everything is implemented well.
The graphics are A bit dated but are serviceable and immersive
The game runs really well and is optimized, even on my ROG ally.
The ground combat is perfectly fine and maybe a few patches and tweaks from fairly dialed in, if imagine loot improvements and attachments could even be the delivery method for a bit more snappy gunplay, it's not. Feeling like it's as tacked on as say no man's sky.
The galactic sim is established , there is roles a whole foundation is there just Already established and working , connected and operating.
There is a crazy alien threat, and it has ships and is a threat that's established.
An ongoing story and delivery method..
Anyways if operations are good and they can keep fleshing out the ground stuff, and maybe make some more locations there's really a lot to build on.
I mean there's no reason elite can't have a big social zone landing city like SC somewhere , shot it would probably actually achieve stable frame rates sooner even if they rushed it on comparison.
I just hope they understand that the dream of that expansive ground and space multiplayer game is already well on its way here, and if they put in the investment they are much closer than anyone else in the space to have all the components in one title.

Planning to Join The Fuel Rats, Build Advice Appreciated
I’ve been trouncing around The Black for the better part of two weeks. Accomplished a round trip through Colonia and The Core, managed to make north of 100m credits through surface scans and exobiology and after turning all that in I figured it was time to unlock more engineers.
I’ve been enamored with the concept of Ratting since I got into the game, my buddy telling me about the rats was a big inspiration for me to get into exploration. Mostly in order to get a sense of what it takes to navigate large distances across the galaxy, as well as understanding how a commander may end up needing their help. Since I’ve made it back to the bubble after this voyage, I’d really like to kit my ship for the job and join the Fuel Rats.

I’m still working on getting engineers unlocked so this will be a long work in progress. I have the FSD engineered for max range/mass manager and the Guardian FSD booster is already equipped as well. Just looking for any advice on which modules I could potentially skip engineering/anything I might be missing.

Is ed worth returning to?
Hi there, longish time player here. I stopped playing Elite around the time Odyssey came out (didn't buy it tho). I played mostly passively (trading, mining, exploring, pve) with a little xeno hunting here and there (ship to ship pvp isn't really my thing). I was thinking about returning in the past few days, but I am not too sure about the game's status. I saw the colonization update and that looks pretty cool (I'm usually playing by myself, so idk how viable that is for me time and effort wise). Is the game worth it picking up again and how is the general game health/game experience nowadays?
Also, is Odyssey worth it in addition? I'm happy to just space truck all over the place but if it's fixed now (I remember the interesting launch) I'd be happy to give it a shot.

What does exobiology offer other than credits?
Started exobiology recently and the credit farm is really impressive but it has gotten a little stale. The organics on majority of planets feels very samey and lacks alot of diversity from what I've experienced.
Are there other forms of organics other than just plants/bacterium? Like animals or forms of sentient life?

Ok so, story time from when I used to explore A LOT in my Asp Explorer (I wasn't able to go that far)
To start off; I'm sorry if this is a little inaccurate since this took place about two years ago.
Ok so, basically an old friend of mine told me where to find some good materials that sold for a lot from what I remember, just buy them, and resell at higher prices in Sol system I think, and I had to travel a BIG distance, so I equipped my Asp Explorer (my beloved) with a fuel scoop and some extra stuff lol
After that I looked at my flight path and saw a system I had to go through had a black hole, it made me super duper nervous, and so I got up from the game and stalled for THREE HOURS because I was afraid of losing my ship and whatnot.
Eventually when I got there it was terrifying not being able to clearly see it so I had to navigate around it carefully (which was also scary since I almost fell in) and so afterwards I got to the site, picked up the materials to sell, and had to go allll the way back. In total it took me maybe 5-6 hours (not including my stalling)

SRV mining seems inefficient
Is it just me, or is SRV mining extremely inefficient ? I am a returning player, who added Odyssey since the last time I flew years ago, and dabbling in SRV mining. Most of the time I use more SRV fuel by driving around looking for mats than I actually collect mats for. Not to mention it uses SRV ammo too. Is there no more efficient method on planet surfaces ?

If you didn't know, the monthly booze cruise happened last weekend. I hopped on the Fleet Carrier to go to Rackham's Peak, but life happened and I wasn't able to log on until today. The FC I was on is now stationed at HD 105341, and the closest star systems are only reachable with Fleet Carriers, meaning I'm trapped here for a whole month unless I can hop on another Fleet Carrier to get back to the bubble.

I myself have always pledged Alliance/Edmund Mahon, as I've always liked being a space trucker, and his politics were more in line with my own and my play style.

Is it a good time to go back to Elite?
I stopped playing again after the last Expansion was released.
I only saw quite alot of disappointment from the community over it and I was getting pissed off with how difficult it was to get the stuff I needed to progress with engineer bs and whatnot.
Anyways, it seems the there has been some excitment from what I've been watching from some youtubers and it got me wondering if I should bother buying the Legs expansion and dive back into the game?

Current best way to grind Federation rank?
I know there’s so many different ways and guides that explain it, but I don’t know what’s changed since a lot of that information was made. Right now I’ve been doing the Sol stations donation loop, are donation missions the fastest way to gain rank or are missions a better use of my time?
