Oleg saved his own life. After getting the call ‘Multiple wounded. We need help.’ He and two other medics headed into the fire.

Oleg knew where he was: a minefield. He jumped from the ramp of his Bradley to aid a wounded comrade, and he landed right on top of a mine.

The blast shredded his right leg completely. Immediately, without even thinking, his training took over and he put on a tourniquet. He fought through the incredible pain and shock of losing a limb, and managed to stop the bleeding enough to survive.

His next obstacle was getting back to the Bradley. Because of the risks of more mines (4 soldiers had already stepped on them), a medic couldn’t come to get him. So for the second time Oleg put his fate in his own hands. He crawled.

It was only a few feet, but crawling with a wound like that is agony. The scraps of his leg dragging behind him. He made it to the ramp and climbed aboard.

Later, all of the dead and wounded were loaded into the troop compartment. A grim sight. The vehicle struck an anti-tank mine and stopped. Oleg was dragged through the top hatch and he could see a vast sea of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines in the fields around him.

Oleg said the real heroes of the day were the Bradley crew members who carried him through the minefield to another Bradley for evacuation. They risked their lives to save his. And the entire trip, he carried his leg in his hands.

Today, Oleg rests in the hospital. Recently having surgery. He lost his right leg, and his left leg suffered shrapnel damage. He endured everyone’s worst fear in a minefield - losing a leg and being forced to treat yourself or die.

His good training, grit, and determination to survive is what kept him alive. But his struggle isn’t over yet. Many months of rehabilitation lay ahead of him.

The Russian had already pulled the pin out of the grenade before the video started. He tried to hide the pin with his hand when the Ukrainian pulled his rifle away. Fortunately, the Ukrainian was very combat aware and saw the pin. After the Ukrainian shot the Russian, you can hear the grenade explode and see that the Russian's guts were blown out.

A number of P.O.W.s were seen captured and given first aid. At around the 3-minute mark, Datsik nearly loses his life while searching a wounded Russian soldier who blows himself up not wanting to surrender.
