Aston Villa v Bayern Munich - UEFA Champions League - Villa Park Photo by Mike Egerton/PA Images via Getty Images The hip injury is nothing serious for Musiala, but Bayern just want it to turn into something problematic. There was a great deal of bemusement when Vincent Kompany made the decision to start Jamal Musiala from the bench in Bayern Munich’s 1-0 loss at Aston Villa in the Champions League. He eventually came on in the second half, but the trio of Kingsley Coman, Michael Olise, and Serge Gnabry started behind Harry Kane for the losing effort in Birmingham.Shortly after the Rekordmeister’s first loss of the season, it came out that Musiala has been dealing with a slight hip problem, and that was the sole reason he was not risked from the start against Villa. In total, after he came on for Kingsley Coman to start the second half, Musiala clocked 45 minute plus stoppage time, which perhaps might have been more than Kompany wanted to push for his playmaker.Per new information from Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), Musiala scheduled to not be involved this weekend against Eintracht Frankfurt and the subsequent international break with Germany is more of a precautionary measure than anything else. There is not a full muscle injury and he is very much expected to return to action for Bayern after the international break, when they are set to host VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga before a trip to take on Barcelona in the Champions League. Sky Sport reporter Kerry Hau (via @iMiaSanMia) had also added that Bayern and the DFB were in close contact regarding the decision to give Musiala a bit of a rest. The discomfort he feels in his hip dates back to after the 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena and there was a mutual agreement to give him a rest until the international break is over. For both club and country, he is slated to miss matches against Frankfurt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Netherlands. Kompany will face a decision on who to start instead of Musiala for a tough test in Frankfurt, but he does have options and could very well field the same exact starting eleven that he put out against Villa. VfB Stuttgart - Sparta Prague Photo by Tom Weller/picture alliance via Getty Images Jamal Musiala will the upcoming games with a hip injury.,.. The news that Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala would miss the Eintracht Frankfurt this week and the upcoming international games in the UEFA Nations League with the German national team created a void on the roster for Die Mannschaft. As expected, that spot will be filled by VfB Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling per a release from the DFB: Jamal Musiala will not travel to the national team in Herzogenaurach on Monday as planned. The 36-time international from FC Bayern Munich will not be available to national coach Julian Nagelsmann for the two upcoming international matches in the UEFA Nations League against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands due to hip problems. Nagelsmann nominated Jamie Leweling from VfB Stuttgart to replace Musiala this Friday. The 23-year-old former German junior international will thus be in the senior national team squad for the first time.Musiala’s injury is not considered serious at this point as both Bayern Munich and Germany prefer taking a conservative approach with the player’s discomfort. Hertha BSC v VfL Wolfsburg - Women’s DFB Cup Photo by Luciano Lima/Getty Images The VfL Wolfsburg striker is calling time on her international career after an impressive 14-year run. Germany bids farewell to a legend as striker Alexandra Popp has announced her upcoming retirement from the international game.Popp, who is still starring for Frauen-Bundesliga giants — and perennial Bayern Munich rivals — VfL Wolfsburg, had a 14-year run with the Germany women’s national team. She made her announcement at the end of September that, “with a heavy heart”, she was hanging up her boots. She will play her final match in Germany colors on October 28 vs. Australia.“The fire that was kindled in me 18 years ago and grew stronger from year to year has now almost burned out,” Popp said in a video, with her remarks captured by DW. “Neither my body, which is a ticking time bomb, nor anyone else should get ahead of me. Before the fire is completely extinguished — because then it would be too late — now is the right time.”Alex Popp.

Germany v Hungary - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Jürgen Fromme - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Is there a goalkeeper drought? Germany’s new No. 1 keeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, recently picked up a serious injury. The ACL tear has ruled him out for the coming months, meaning Germany seriously needs a new goalkeeper. The DFB squad lost two of its best (debatable) keepers in very quick succession, Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer to retirement, and Ter Stegen to injury. So, obviously, the question arises - who will be between the sticks for Germany?Joshua Kimmich was recently asked about who he would want to replace the FC Barcelona keeper and is not sure how things will shake out. “It’s very difficult to judge that now. I’ll be completely honest. I don’t know enough about the goalkeeping position. I can’t judge it well enough. Of course, we’ll miss Marc a lot,” said the Bayern midfielder/German right-back (captured by @iMiaSanMia). So, it looks like the squad is just as clueless as the rest of the fans, and it is not clear as to who the best replacement could be. Fans have differing opinions too, but the common consensus is that Ter Stegen would not have been an adequate replacement for Neuer anyway. What do you think? Who should take up the goalkeeper position for Germany? Let us know in the comments below!Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen? FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images A bit of a rough patch for Bayern at this moment in time We’re back for some more Monthly Musings from everyone’s favorite player! In this edition, Thomas Müller recaps the last two big games that Bayern Munich played: against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and Aston Villa in the Champions League.Top match against Leverkusen - dominance is backThe top match against Leverkusen showed where our FCB is currently heading. The 1:1 draw doesn’t really reflect how convincingly we performed. Another indication of this for me was the very defensive game plan of Leverkusen, mind you the 90-point champions from last season. A clear sign for me: We’re on the right track and our opponents can sense that too.The training work is going well, we feel comfortable in the new system and know exactly what the coach wants from us. No question marks, just exclamation marks at the moment.I’m already looking forward to the Bundesliga top match against Frankfurt. We’ll do everything we can to give our fans something extra to celebrate on the last Wiesn weekend ⚽️Champions League - Small setback on the way to the Finale DahoamAs expected, Aston Villa were a tough opponent. The 1:0 defeat hurts, but it’s not a blow for us. Thanks to the brilliant 9:2 win on the first matchday, we have a very good goal difference and still have six more games in the group stage to get our position in the table right.I am convinced that we still have many victorious Champions League evenings ahead of us this season on the way to our big goal: the final dahoam.Müller’s health treat - Vitamin D is a no-brainerWhen it comes to health, I’m always on the ball and like to try out new things. But sometimes there are things that are simply a no-brainer. Vitamin D is one of them for me.Why? I have three good reasons:Our body needs vitamin D for important metabolic processes (bones, regeneration, immune system, etc.). Without the additional intake of vitamin D, I would definitely be undersupplied. It is very easy to take vitamin D as a dietary supplement - simply as a tablet or capsule. That is the current scientific status.Just imagine: According to several studies, around 80% of the German population is vitamin D deficient. That’s quite a number. If you are unsure about the correct dosage, please talk to your trusted doctor. For me, vitamin D is definitely part of my daily diet. With this in mind, dear Müller Mail family, stay healthy.Thank you for your support and keep your chin up,Your ThomasLooking for more thoughts and analysis on the weekend in Germany? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Grab your popcorn, guys. The drama does not stop... During Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, Bayern goalkeeper Sven Ulreich hurled an insult in the direction of Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes. A video of Ulreich insulting Rolfes made the rounds on the internet, catching the attention of the Leverkusen man and the DFB. Rolfes was initially annoyed but, after an apology from Ulreich, said that the matter was over for him. But it was not over for the DFB, who took the insult personally and handed Ulreich a 20k fine and a one match ban.Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl was critical of this decision, expressing the following (as captured by @iMiaSanMia): “In my opinion, it’s too harsh. There were incidents a few years ago with Kevin de Bruyne [at Wolfsburg], who verbally abused a ball boy, and he only got a fine. I think that a fine and a game ban for Ulle now is excessive. We’ll not leave Ulle alone, we will get through this together.”Verily, a one-game ban for the Bavarians’ backup goalkeeper will leave the club scrambling to reassess their game plan. Let us hope they can come up with something to combat this damaging absence...If you are looking for a discussion on Bayern Munich’s recent form, the potential impact of Jamal Musiala’s injury and what it might mean for Bayern Munich, along with our takes on the German national team squad selection, then we have you covered with the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show. FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Bayern’s board want to write some big, fat checks. It is no secret that Bayern Munich wants to sign phenom Jamal Musiala to a long-term contract extension as soon as possible. Musiala’s camp has also provided positive feedback during the early stages of the negotiation process. On the pitch, Musiala wants to continue to be the focal point of the offense as the number ten. Off the pitch, he wants to be paid like an international superstar while also expecting Bayern to bring in enough talent to ensure that the squad is an annual Champions League favorite. In a report from Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia):The first steps of contract talks between Bayern and Jamal Musiala are going quite well. Bayern are satisfied and see the player open to discussing terms and understanding the new project under Vincent Kompany. We’re not yet at the final stages and it will still take some time, but so far Bayern are happy with how the first steps have gone.A separate report from Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) spelled out the next step in Bayern’s elaborate plan:Bayern’s goal is to reach an agreement with Jamal Musiala over a new deal before the end of this year. After the first talks with Musiala and his management, the club is now preparing their financial offer that they will present in the next meeting. If the numbers are right, an agreement could be reached quickly. Musiala is expected to join the category of the top earners with around €20m/year.After they renew with Musiala, Bayern’s next goal is to start working on signing Florian Wirtz. The ‘hot phase’ for the negotiations for Wirtz will begin in spring, with a final decision expected by June. Uli Hoeneß is personally maintaining contact with the Wirtz family. A connection has developed between both sides. Bayern does not expect Wirtz to cost €150m, but rather around the €100m that Hoeneß had mentioned before. The deal, however, does not depend only on money. The decisive part will be to convince Wirtz of a move to Munich. Musiala’s renewal could play a role in that .Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, would prefer to sell Wirtz abroad. In addition to Bayern, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal are the clubs with the best chances of signing Wirtz. The overall transfer fee or Wirtz’s wages don’t seem to be much of a concern to Bayern. Bayern is a highly profitable club that will have some high salaries roll off the books in 2025 and 2026.However, the latter part of the report is more concerning for Bayern fans. Leverkusen would prefer to keep Wirtz away from Bayern where Leverkusen will have to play against him at least twice a year.Overall, all signs currently point to Bayern being able to complete the deal for Wirtz next summer. It will cost a pretty penny, but Musiala and Wirtz will be the face of Bayern, German national team, and hopefully the EA Sports FC video game franchise for the next decade.

Villarreal CF v FC Barcelona - La Liga EA Sports Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images DFB is seeing a new era... Following a disastrous injury, FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen is going to be unavailable for the coming months, leaving Barcelona, but more importantly, Germany’s national squad without a goalkeeper. Germany recently lost Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, the usual number 1 keeper, to retirement, and now lost their former number 2 (now first) to injury. There were concerns about a goalkeeper drought, and whether the German squad had depth for that position, in terms of talent and skill. Questions were raised regarding who was to replace the two senior keepers. But new reports have come in (from Sport Bild via @iMiaSanMia) of Germany’s new batting order to fill the position. According to the report, Julian Nagelsmann is set to make Oliver Baumann, captain of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, the new number 1 between the sticks. Germany’s goalkeeping coach, Andreas Kronenberg, supports Nagelsmann’s decision to make Baumann the first choice, considering his talent and experience. The coach’s second choice would be Alexander Nübel, on loan at VFB Stuttgart from Bayern Munich. Third in line is set to be Janis Blaswich, RB Leipzig player currently on loan at RB Salzburg. The news would later be revealed in Nagelsmann’s formal team selection. For the coming two games, Nagelsmann plans to start Oliver Baumann for the first one, and possibly give playing time to Nübel. Whatever happens, Nagelsmann plans on inserting Marc-André ter Stegen back in as the No. 1 once he is back at full strength per a statement release by the DFB (via @iMiaSanMia). What do you think? Can one game determine who is better out of the two? Let us know in the comments!

Aston Villa FC v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Will Leroy Sané re-up with Bayern Munich? Sané mulling options over emergence of Olise? (CaughtOffside)Back in 2020/2021, Leroy Sané was the anointed wing saviour for Bayern Munich and was going to rule the position for years to come. Depending on your perspective, Sané has either done a good job in manning the position or underachieved due to a myriad of reasons. Regardless, Sané is playing out the final season of his contract and has been expected to ink an extension at some point during this campaign. However, one report is suggesting that the emergence of Michael Olise might have Sané sweating his status on the team — and potentially looking at alternatives for where to spend the next stage of his career: Leroy Sané would love to stay at Bayern, but he sees it’s not getting easier with Michael Olise in the squad. At the moment, Sané is still in talks with Bayern and they remain his first option - but he’s also keeping an eye on the market with a contract expiring next summer. It still feels like Sané will re-up with Bayern Munich, but if the Olise part of the story is true, it could have him thinking about his future. So far, Vincent Kompany has been reluctant to start Olise and Sané together, which is likely complicating things. With Kingsley Coman’s status extremely uncertain and Serge Gnabry not 100% solidified with his own spot on the team, Bayern munich could be looking at a complete revamp of the position — something some folks wanted to go down last summer. You can’t just throw money at all of your problems (El Nacional via 90Min.com)Another year, another striker?Rasmus Højlund...Joshua Zirkzee...now RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško? Manchester United could be thinking about a move for the Slovenian star: Erik ten Hag has asked for Man Utd to pursue RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško in an attempt to solve their scoring woes. (ESPN)Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán was the star of the game against Bayern Munich earlier this week when he scored the game-winner. Now, Chelsea FC could be interested in the attacker: Aston Villa would not leave striker Jhon Durán leave the club for anything less than a fee of £80m, according to TEAMtalk. The Colombian has had an incredible start to the season, scoring six goals despite only starting one of his nine appearances.Durán saw his star rise further this week when he scored the winning goal against Bayer Munich on Villa’s first home game in the European Cup/Champions League for 41 years.Chelsea remain interested in the 20-year-old, but it would take a fee more than four times that which Villa paid Chicago Fire to sign him in January 2023 for them to part with him now.More Zubimendi rumors for City, as Gunners, Madrid also have interest (Football Insider via…

Bryan Zaragoza (forward; CA Osasuna) and Iñaki Peña (... Photo by Fernando Pidal/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images Unfortunately, we won’t have Zaragoza available for our game against them in the Champions League. It would have been a guaranteed win with him... Many were baffled by Bayern Munich’s decision to loan summer signing Bryan Zaragoza back to Spain, a perceived comfort zone where he spent his formative years, instead of letting him go to another team in the Bundesliga to help him continue to acclimatize to Germany. But perhaps we may have found the reason for this decision: To help defeat FC Barcelona, of course. OK, perhaps helping Zaragoza rediscover his confidence and letting him join a club on the rise this season, like Osasuna is, were the real reasons Bayern were eager to agree to this loan, but it is unbelievable how the former Granada CF player blossoms when playing against Barcelona. He contributed a goal and an assist in a thrilling 4-2 victory over the Blaugranas, something that caught Bayern’s eye and lead to special praise from the club, as captured by @iMiaSanMia: Bastian Wernscheid, executive assistant at FC Bayern, contacted Osasuna representatives after their win over Barcelona on Saturday to congratulate them for the result, for the football played by Osasuna and especially to convey Bayern’s satisfaction for Bryan Zaragoza’s great performanceThis result sees Osasuna climb up to 7th in the table, with Zaragoza’s 2 goal contributions today bring him up to 3 for the season. With a little more consistent magic from the little Spaniard, who knows how far Osasuna can go?

FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by M. Donato/FC Bayern via Getty Images “Everyone’s thinkin’ it, I’m just sayin’ it.”-Pirates of the Caribbean In Harry Kane’s first season at Bayern Munich, the team won four of the first five Bundesliga matches and only dropped points in a draw at home against Bayer Leverkusen. History repeated itself this season with an identical start. But greedy Bayern fans were already irritated with Thomas Tuchel’s defensive and possession minded approach, given the squad’s unique attacking talent. Why is everyone enjoying Bayern’s play so much this campaign? In a recent interview (via @iMiaSanMia), Kane said, “I really like him as a coach. He’s a great personality as a leader and coach. You can see how we want to play: high intensity and high pressing, keeping the ball. I think that suits the team because there are a lot of attacking players who want to score goals or provide assists. It’s working well so far and I’m looking forward to the upcoming games.”Attacking style soccer is a large component of the DNA rooted in the history of both Bayern and the Bundesliga. If a team is up a goal or two, parking the bus or passing back and forth around the backline isn’t good enough for the fans.Vincent Kompany deserves a lot of credit for reinvigorating the squad and the fanbase on the team’s quest to match Leverkusen’s undefeated season.

Aston Villa FC v FC Bayern Munchen - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by James Baylis - AMA/Getty Images No wonder the contract signing is taking so long. Jamal Musiala has been negotiating with Bayern Munich for a new contract for quite some time now (or at least it feels that way). His demands were revealed recently, and explained on BFW, but there is now a clearer explanation of his salary demands specifically. According to a report (via Christian Falk, captured by @iMiaSanMia), Musiala’s camp has certain expectations when it comes to his salary hike. He is not exactly asking to earn the most among the squad, but they are negotiating a significant salary increase. The young German star believes that the squad and Vincent Kompany depends on his performances, and since the club sees him as the next Thomas Müller, he wants to see that dependency reflected on his wages. Signing a new contract at Bayern would entirely depend on whether or not Musiala’s financial goals are accepted by the club’s management. He also knows that he is young enough to be able to take a next step in the next few years, and he has more to offer for the German Rekordmeister. Another thing that compels Musiala to stay for longer at the club is the fact that he genuinely just enjoys playing under Kompany. According to him, Kompany is trying to improve his style of football, and that education is extremely important to him. What do you think? Do you believe that Jamal Musiala deserves to earn that much? Let us know down below! If you are looking for a discussion on Bayern Munich’s recent form, the potential impact of Jamal Musiala’s injury and what it might mean for Bayern Munich, along with our takes on the German national team squad selection, then we have you covered with the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show. FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images The Bayern and German superstar knows he just has to keep plugging away — and push his teams toward greater success. Bayern Munich playmaker Jamal Musiala is a superstar in the making. But this season the 21-year-old was left off the Ballon d’Or shortlist — more of a long list really — which has certainly raised eyebrows in some corners.Musiala himself is not unaffected. But he’s not about to campaign for himself, either — he knows the honors will follow good work. “I’d be lying if I said no individual awards matter to me,” Musiala said in comments captured by The Guardian’s Rob Draper (via @iMiaSanMia). “I think everyone growing up wants to win an individual award of some kind. [But] the most important thing is, we had a tough season last season and we need to do better this season. The main focus is on winning trophies and everything else will come when the time is right.” It wasn’t only Musiala himself who had a mixed performance last season. Bayern went trophy-less and Germany, while impressive, only got as far as the quarterfinals at EURO 2024. For Musiala, bigger team success and individual accolades may just come hand in hand.

Aston Villa FC v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images Bayern Munich will take on Eintracht Frankfurt...are you ready? Bayern Munich has had a tough go of late, earning a draw last weekend vs. Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga before losing to Aston Villa in the Champions League. To show his support for the squad and the coaching staff, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer hit the media to throw his backing behind the team. "It was unnecessary to lose against Villa, but that happens. We have to win in Frankfurt on Sunday, then the world will look completely different again. Vincent Kompany is doing a great job, you can see that on the pitch. We run a lot, work hard, are much quicker on the ball, try to press higher. It’s a lot of fun to watch the team,” Hainer told Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Was the loss to Aston Villa really unnecessary, though? This Bayern Munich is loaded with its roster and might have more individual talent jam-packed into its locker room than any other team in the world. However, that does not mean that group is without flaws. Perhaps, the low blocks implemented by both Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa were exactly what Bayern Munich needed to see at this moment to set it up for success later down the line. Prior to the Bayer Leverkusen match, things were — simply put — too easy. The Bavarians were marauding over the competition and blasting any club silly enough to be on the pitch with them on a particular day. This season’s version of Bayer Leverkusen is not quite the irresistible force we saw last season, but it is still formidable. Meanwhile, Aston Villa was blazing for at least one day and executed its coach’s game plan with aplomb. Maybe — for right now — it was necessary for this Bayern Munich team to be tested and to be exposed to styles that could cause problems down the road. The book might be out on how to slow down this Bayern Munich attack, but Kompany and his staff have the rest of season to develop a solution to combat that style. Maybe...this is exactly what needed to happen at this moment. Musiala will stay in Munich to work on his comeback.Thomas Müller, Michael Olise, and Leroy Sane look to be the most likely replacements for Musiala. As for Germany, it looks like Julian Nagelsmann has already moved on. Per Sky journalist PJ Berger, VfB Stuttgart’s Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling will be called up to replace Musiala.
