FC Bayern München v VfB Stuttgart - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Bayern Munich dominated the second half... Die Folgen: Bayern’s 4-0 win over Stuttgart (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich did not look like world beaters in the first half against VfB Stuttgart, but that would change in the second half as the Bavarians were thoroughly dominant. Ultimately, Bayern Munich walked away with a 4-0 victory, so let’s talk about how that went down. Here are some quick hitters on the match:As always, let’s take a look at Vincent Kompany’s starting XI:

Starting XI to take on Stuttgart this evening! #FCBayern #MiaSanMia | #FCBVfB pic.twitter.com/k9kox7zhco— FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) October 19, 2024Dayot Upamecano got the nod despite his recent injury (as many thought). It was Thomas Müller, though, who took the No. 10 position and not Michael Olise or Leroy Sané. Olise did start at wing, though. Give VfB Stuttgart credit, it came to play and was not content to just park the bus. Gnabry had a golden opportunity to put Bayern Munich ahead early, but looped his shot wide of the net. It happens...but it feels like he could be entering one of his patented slumps. Deniz Undav almost capitalized seconds later on that miss, but also put his shot wide. Undav’s attempt was far more difficult of a chance. Aleksandar Pavlović took a nasty spill after getting low-bridged and had to leave the game early. João Palhinha came off of the bench, but it was a scary moment for the youngster. In the 11th minute, Kane slid a ball across the box, but Gnabry — inexplicably — failed to run into it for what could have been an easy goal. It was going to be that kind of game for Gnabry. This is truly not an anti-Gnabry rant, but his cross in the 26th minute left a lot to be desired. After making a terrific feint and run to free himself, he just did not hit the cross accurately enough to find Michael Olise. Sebastian Hoeness lived up to his claim that VfB Stuttgart would play an open style. VfB Stuttgart was noticed, confident, and was willing to go blow for blow with Bayern Munich. That did provide the Bavarians with quite a few chances. One of the best was a sequence on the break that went from Müller to Raphael Guerreiro to Kane, who just did not hit his header attempt good enough.Kane looks like he is losing his mind at times. Despite the zeroes on the scoreboard, it was not a terrible first half for Bayern Munich, just inefficient offensively and kind of boring. Bayern Munich’s backline held strong and limited the quality chances that Manuel Neuer would have to face. Still, Bayern Munich is not looking as powerful as it once did against lesser competition.HT stats pic.twitter.com/zuyHrcqapv— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) October 19, 2024In the 51st minute, Gnabry slid a nice ball into the box for Kane, who was a split-second away from tapping it in. There is a problem with chemistry at the moment within the attack. Josha Vagnoman should have given VfB Stuttgart the lead in the 55th minute, but hit his wide-open attempt over the crossbar. Bayern Munich was scrambling, unorganized, and almost paid for it. Fortunately for the Bavarians, Kane would escape from his slump with a long-range blast to put Bayern Munich up 1-0. Kimmich had the assist after some nifty play. Ultimately, though, that was probably a shot that Alexander Nübel should have stopped. It was great placement, but the goalkeeper’s reaction was a bit slow. Either way, Bayern Munich took a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute.Bayern Munich fans have to hope that the goal unlocks Kane. Just minutes later, Nübel made back-to-back saves on Kane and Palhinha. Kane, though, would not be deterred and just seconds after that scored in the 60th minute to make it 2-0. The initial pass on the play came into Müller from Gnabry. Müller had a cheeky, little back-heel pass to Kane, whose first attempt was blocked. Ultimately, the Englishman corralled in the ball and took another shot for the goal. It was a case study for concentration and…

FC Bayern München v VfB Stuttgart - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Did Thomas Müller earn another start for Bayern Munich? Despite not registering a goal nor an assist, Bayern Munich veteran Thomas Müller was one of the most influential and impactful players on the pitch during the team’s 4-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart. While Müller did not think it was a perfect effort, he admired how the squad battled. “In the first half we were a bit sloppy with the ball in the last actions. In the second half, Harry’s first goal threw Stuttgart off the balance. We kept pushing and worked hard. As I said two weeks ago after Frankfurt, we’re on the right path. That’s been confirmed today. Bayern fans can be happy with the win today. We players can be happy. We’re now looking forward to Wednesday,” said Müller (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).Of course, FC Barcelona is awaiting the Bavarians in the Champions League...and Müller’s old boss, Hansi Flick, will be leading the charge for the Catalans. Surely, fun time await. Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s big 4-0 win over VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga? Bayern Munich - VfB Stuttgart Photo by Tom Weller/picture alliance via Getty Images This squad is packed full of talent. Bayern Munich was back to winning ways after the international window, scoring four unanswered goals in an emphatic win over VfB Stuttgart, retaining its spot at the top of the table. After a disappointing first period in terms of attacking output, Bayern came to life in the second half, with Harry Kane scoring a hat-trick. While Kane may have started the game, Vincent Kompany’s substitutes did a good job of imposing themselves on the game as well, with Kingsley Coman going so far as to score a goal of his own, adding to the team’s tally on the night. In a post-match press conference, Kompany was captured (via @iMiaSanMia) speaking about his bench's impact, saying, “We’re very fortunate with the amount of players we could bring off the bench to raise the quality of the game. In a moment where some players were getting a little bit tired, the bench made a big push for us in the last 30 minutes. Moreover, Kompany explained that he preached patience at halftime. When asked what that speech entailed, Kompany offered this: “To stay patient and not concede counters. I felt we could’ve used our chances better, especially in the first half. Stuttgart is a very good team. We stayed patient and in the end deservedly won the game. I’m happy for the boys. Now we keep going and look to the next game against Barcelona.”With added matches in the schedule due to the new Champions League format and Bayern wanting to compete at a high level in every competition, the depth of the squad could prove an important asset this season.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s big 4-0 win over VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga? FC Bayern München v VfB Stuttgart - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Well, this stinks... On a play that was largely unnecessary, Bayern Munich phenom Aleksandar Pavlović has broken his collarbone per FCBayern.com. The injury could keep the midfielder out for up to three months per Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), which also will cause him to miss the November international break, where he would have been called up to the German national team. FCBayern.com’s release reads as follows: Midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović (20) will be missing from FC Bayern in the coming weeks. The German international suffered a broken collarbone in the top Bundesliga match against VfB Stuttgart (4:0) on Saturday evening. This was the result of an examination by FC Bayern’s medical department after the match. Pavlović was substituted in the 8th minute after he fell awkwardly on his shoulder following an aerial duel with Stuttgart’s Fabian Rieder. Now, João Palhinha figures to get the playing time that has eluded him this far during his tenure in Bavaria.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s big 4-0 win over VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga? Bayern’s defensive midfield gem suffered an awkward fall in Bayern’s match against VfB Stuttgart that saw him substituted almost right away for João Palhinha. FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain: Round of 16 Second Leg - UEFA Champions League Photo by Boris Streubel/Getty Images Flick is surely looking forward to this tie. Bayern Munich, after a wonderful 4-0 win against VfB Stuttgart, which ended a stretch of three winless games, will take on FC Barcelona, coached by former Bayern player and coach, Hansi Flick. Flick will go down as one of the most historic coaching figures at Bayern, due to his haul of seven trophies in two seasons, including a sextuple. Kompany recently spoke about Flick according to @iMiaSanMia and paid tribute to him, mentioning that the game will be special for Flick but emphasizing that Bayern wants to win: “There are coaches who have done a lot for FC Bayern, and he [Flick] is one of them. Jupp Heynckes, Pep Guardiola and others. Of course it will be a special game for him. But in the end he wants to win and we want to win.”Kompany on facing Barcelona with Hansi Flick on Wednesday: "There are coaches who have done a lot for FC Bayern, and he [Flick] is one of them. Germany captain and Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich made his 400th appearance against the club whose youth system he came through, VfB Stuttgart. Kimmich was proud of his achievement and expressed this pride per @MartinVolkmar via @iMiaSanMia: “Of course, it’s a milestone that I’m proud of to play so many competitive matches for a club like FC Bayern. Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Will the strength of this partnership prove to be enough? Bayern Munich center-back pairing Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-Jae kept their third clean sheet of the current Bundesliga season in a 4-0 win over visitors VfB Stuttgart. Both Upamecano and Kim have received their fair share of criticism for mistakes and poor performances in the past, but the duo looks keen to overcome their detractors. Identified by Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl as the ideal players for the playstyle the Bavarians look to achieve coming into the season, head coach Vincent Kompany has found a promising system that plays to his defender's strengths.Following Bayern’s match against Stuttgart, Upamecano was captured by Az journalist Kilian Kreitmair (via @iMiaSanMia) speaking about playing alongside his South Korean counterpart, saying, “It’s a great fit with him. He also has more self-confidence [now]. Like myself, he’s received a lot of criticism. But that’s football. We have to keep our heads up and always give it our all.”Intent on proving any doubters wrong and cementing themselves as one of the best center-back pairings in Europe following their previous struggles, this is a make-or-break season for Upamecano and Kim.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s big 4-0 win over VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga? Bosnia and Herzegovina v Germany - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Maja Hitij/Getty Images He is comfortable in Stuttgart. Whenever Bayern Munich plays VfB Stuttgart, it seems that Alexander Nübel is once again auditioning for Manuel Neuer’s position. Unfortunately for him, Stuttgart mostly tends to lose against Bayern and concede a lot of goals in the process. Today, Nübel found himself on the losing side once more as Harry Kane put three past him and Kingsley Coman added one to the tally. When asked about his future, per @iMiaSanMia, Nübel had this to say: “I’m on loan in Stuttgart. I feel comfortable from a sporting and private perspective. Everything else is in the future. Of course Bayern is my club where I’m under contract. But now I’m in Stuttgart and that’s where my focus is. I’m relaxed.”Alex Nübel on his future: "I'm on loan in Stuttgart. I feel comfortable from a sporting and private perspective. SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Jürgen Fromme - firo sportphoto/Getty Images This one hurts (literally and figuratively)... When Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany saw star midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović land hard on his shoulder without being able to brace himself, he knew it could be bad. As the club would later confirm, the talented Germany international broke his collarbone. Bild indicated that he would miss up to three months, which is a brutal loss for Bayern Munich, but a big setback for the developing player as well. Needless to say, Kompany felt like it would be bad during the postgame media scrum. “I’m not a doctor, but it’s not looking good. He was probably our best player so far. It won’t change anything about the career he will have. But it’s a pity for us that he won’t be with us for now,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Now, Pavlović will have to heal and work his way back into form. No doubt, everyone is rooting for the midfielder to get fully healthy as soon as possible. FC Bayern München v VfB Stuttgart - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Kane’s goal drought is over as well as Bayern’s winless run. It took until the second half of proceedings, but a Bayern Munich side led by a Harry Kane hat-trick in the second half galloped to a 4-0 win over VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena, snapping the Rekordmeister’s three-match winless streak prior to the international break. Prior to the break, Bayern had not won since their 5-0 routing of Werder Bremen towards the end of September. After the dominance and number of shots Bayern recorded in the first half against Stuttgart, it looked as if the match had all the hallmarks of being another frustrating night at the office, but the floodgates opened after Kane’s strike in the 57th minute broke the deadlock. With the number of Stuttgart bodies the long-range effort traveled through en route to goal, there was little Alexander Nübel could do to save it, but the strike spurred the England skipper to score twice more in the span of the next 23 minutes. Kingsley Coman put the cherry on the cake with a goal in the 89th minute.Speaking after the match, Kane was particularly pleased with the way that Bayern was finally able to make the most of their chances and dominance in the match. In the previous matches against Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa and Eintracht Frankfurt, they played decent enough, but did not take their chances well enough. “I think we played well in the last games but the results weren’t there. Today after the first goal the game opened up and we switched up another level they couldn’t keep up. It was an important game at home. We wanted to win and put in a good performance for the fans. We won 4-0, but I think it could’ve been 6 or 7,” Bayern’s hat-trick hero explained (via @iMiaSanMia). FC Bayern München v VfB Stuttgart - Bundesliga Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images In addition to breaking Bayern’s winless streak of three matches, Kane also broke a drought of his own. Prior to the hat-trick against Stuttgart, he had not scored since the 5-0 win over Bremen, and he did not score for England during the international break earlier this month. He was able to put all of the outside noise to get back to business as usual, keeping his own hunt for the Torjäger Kanone very much alive. “As a striker, there are moments where everything you touch goes in. When you don’t score there’s always a lot of talk. It’s part of the striker’s life. I always believe in myself and in my teammates,” he said after collecting yet another match ball for Bayern (via @iMiaSanMia). “I think some of the guys are sick of signing them. But I’ll try to keep them coming,” he joked when he was asked about taking home yet another match ball for his hat-trick performance. Of course, it would be a rather safe bet to assume there will be plenty more where that came from. FC Bayern München v VfB Stuttgart - Bundesliga Harry Kane celebrating his hat-trick against VFB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena. | Photo by Adam Pretty/Getty Images Bayern Munich turn a mundane first half into magic. Bayern Munich’s match day seven clash against VfB Stuttgart was a tale of two halves. What started out to be an extremely stale game, devoid of chances soon turned into a Harry Kane masterclass. Jersey Swap: Jamie Leweling The 23-year-old continues his rich vein of form after netting on his debut for the German national team in their last UEFA Nations League game against the Netherlands.Leweling may not have found his way onto the score sheet, but he did create Stuttgart’s biggest chance in the 54th minute after turning his man, sending in a looping cross and finding Josha Vagnoman who ultimately skied his side’s best chance to take the lead. The emerging Germany and Stuttgart winger has certainly “Leweled” up in his last few games (pun intended). Fast, agile and decisive, Jamie Leweling has all the tools to become a top player.Honourable mention #1:Angelo Stiller, a recent German national team debutant and former Bayern Munich academy graduate was the key cog in the Stuttgart midfield. Keep a keen eye on him throughout the season. Honourable mention#2 and #3:This is not performance based, or football performance based at least. Nevertheless, a special shout out to Ramon Hendriks and Julian Chabot in the 36th and 46th minute, who both managed to produce an ear splitting cry capable of drowning out a 75 000 capacity stadium after being lightly fouled. Truly impressive vocal range. Der Kaiser: Alphonso Davies This award could have easily gone to anyone in Bayern’s backline, especially Raphaël Guerreiro, who at times looked like his sides best defender, midfielder and attacker at the same time.Alphonso Davies, however, is a well deserved recipient after another good display for Bayern. Phonzie has come under fire in recent seasons mainly for his inconsistency and lack of defensive awareness. Injuries have certainly not done the Canadian left-back any favours, but the criticism was probably deserved. This season, Davies looks like a player reborn under Vincent Kompany. The best word to describe Bayern’s Roadrunner this season is: Balanced. A word I, nor many a Bayern Munich fan would have used to describe Davies in the past, nevertheless, a word that rings true, flaunting his ruthless pace in attack while exercising defensive discipline. It is exciting to get excited about the young Canadian again. Let’s hope this isn’t just form, but rather Davies showing a maturity to develop his game.Fußballgott: Joshua KimmichA special night for a special Bayern Munich player, who has now made 400 appearances for the Bavarian giants. If you are looking for an example of why Kimmich is such an important player for Bayern, look no further than Harry Kane’s first goal. On the surface, it’s a lovely strike and finish from Kane, however, upon further inspection, that goal doesn’t happen without Kimmich’s determination and ferocity to win the ball back in the opponents half. For an often overly criticised player, Kimmich certainly showcased how much he brings to the Bayern midfield. Energy. leadership, passing, defending, you name it, he does it.It seems insane that Bayern were reportedly willing to let such a crucial player go in the summer transfer window. Fingers crossed Jo will stick around to make another 400 appearances for Die Rekordmeister.Der Bomber: Thomas Müller These days, it is not often that one gets to see Thomas Müller play a full 90 minutes, but when he does, it is always a treat.Müller may not have gotten an assist or goal to his name, and that’s okay. As is often the case with the Bavarian-born footballer, it is often his invisible work that really leaves you with a grin on your face, and this time around it was no different. Müller’s off the ball work, utilisation of space, general trickiness and communication is truly a sight to behold. When Radio Mülller plays, it…
