The Age of the Chicken
>I wrote this short science essay around a strange proposition: if our civilization disappeared, the most recognizable fossil of our age might not be human at all. It might be the industrial broiler chicken.
The argument begins with a 2018 Royal Society paper and ends with a question about what happens when an institution becomes powerful enough to redesign anatomy. I’d be interested in where readers think the evidence ends and the metaphor begins.
