Here they are! Your tools to turn 5000 negative thoughts into thoughts that will elevate your life instead of dragging you down. Of course, it takes time and work. But you will make it if you really want.

[Text] Ever wanted to get rid' of NEGATIVE thoughts? HERE'S HOW...

# “I am not good enough”

# “I should have done better”

# “Why can’t I just be happy?”

Welcome to the club - 7 billion of us are stuck in this brain-buzzing circus called life. Negative thoughts? We've all got ‘em. But here’s the surprise: no one’s immune. For me, the real relief was realizing that I'm not the only one.

^("Someone, right now, experiences the same pain as I do".)

This post is the second part of “5000 negative thoughts per day & How you get rid’ of them”. If you haven’t reddit yet, check it out!

Now, while on the road, I met people who seemed to have figured it out. Not the fake Instagram-flavored “perfect life” kind, but those who were genuinely free. Not just in their wallet or health but free in their heads. When I asked these folks, they all said something along the same lines:

*Everyone has storms in their mind. Some have just learned how to tame them.*

Every morning when I wake up, I get about 10 seconds of peace. Then, bam, the mind starts its usual nonsense. But what if we could grab that little voice and tell it to chill out? Here are 3 things these people taught me to do just that:

# Fix your Environment, before it fixes you

There was this kid, Jimmy who used to live with his mother and brother in a little apartment. On many days, when Jimmy’s brother was out of house he escaped into the bathroom to be safe from his mother. Due to her drug addiction, she was highly agressive and violent.

She always promised to not touch Jimmy if he’d just open the door. Of course, it was a lie. 2 weeks later he ran away from home and found refuge at his grandparent’s - the complete opposite of his toxic home life. That change of environment? It was his ticket to peace.

Look, we’re not all trapped in horror stories like Jimmy’s, but we’ve all got relationships that don’t do us any favors.

The hard truth? If you’re surrounded by people who are dragging you down, it’s time to pull the eject lever. And yeah, it’s tough when it’s family. But sometimes, you’ve gotta make that call for your own sanity.

The other side looks far more promising. One of our most powerful tools as human beings is the ability to ask effective questions.

“If I don’t want to be surrounded by people like \[…\], then who is the person that would have a more positive impact on me? What does this person do, what do they talk about? What kind of environment do they live in?”

As you begin to describe this person, an interesting phenomenon emerges: this ideal often mirrors who you want to become or is someone quite similar to you. Striking a healthy balance makes the journey even more fulfilling.

You’ll notice a dramatic boost in your quality of life when you limit time spent with people who drain your energy, and instead, build connections with those you admire.

# Manipulate Vision

“Manipulating vision” sounds like some sci-fi bs, right? But here's the deal: most of your brain’s cells are devoted to vision. What you see shapes how you feel, how you act, and what you become.

Yet people keep soaking in the garbage - endless news doomscrolling, social media envy. No wonder they’re stuck in a negative loop. You want to rewire your brain? Start feeding it better material.

^(But hold on… we’re heading into the wrong direction here...)

Meanwhile you know which activities are rewarded by our brain:

* learning something new
* accomplishment
* affection and love
* social interaction
* … and some other highly addictive activities which we won’t mention today

And here the fun starts. What if we take those tools to manipulate our brain, so we do more of the things that make us feel great?

Let’s take a random example!

We wanna lose a couple pounds by doing sports. Our goal is to run 30 minutes every second day.

**Accomplishment:**
To achieve something meaningful, we first need to create a roadmap. Expecting to build the habit of running by starting with 30-minute runs on day one isn’t realistic . We’re just not there yet.

What’s crucial in the beginning is forming

Discussion Tell me that change is possible.

Tell me change is possible.

Hi! I’m kind of in a hole here. I find myself dealing with a lot of issues that are 100% all my fault. I just can’t do anything. I don’t know if it’s procrastination anxiety and dread and spiraling from feeling overwhelmed all mixed into one giant mess? I can’t do anything. I’m comfortable with that. I lay down all day (unless I need to go to work) and do nothing but stay on my phone. My self talk is terrible as well. My self esteem is in the gutter. I want to go to the gym. I want to focus on doing and being better but I just can’t. I physically can’t get up and do it sometimes and I hate myself for it. Was anybody like this? Has anybody changed from this? Is it possible? I’m 27 and I feel like a complete failure in life. I need to know change is possible. Thank you.

Any other burnt-out overachievers successfully leave a traditional field to become a writer or artist? Discussion

I am a 36-year-old corporate attorney on my 5th year of medical leave. I am looking to get back into the swing of working, but I get a pit in my stomach when I think of going back to practicing law.

I've known since I was a child I wanted to write a book. I recently found a journal entry from first grade that says "I want to be an author so I can heal people." I think that's beautiful.

People have always told me I am a gifted writer, but I know most people in my life will not be supportive if I decide to sideline my career to get this book written, and that is making this decision difficult. Money and cachet are the food of life in the sector of society I occupy. Even people I barely know have encouraged me to go back to my law practice. I am disheartened.

I just had two of my best friends die (by fentanyl poisoning and suicide, respectively) and I don't want to leave this planet without leaving something behind to inspire others to hold strong through suffering. Billable hours are hardly tombstone-worthy, despite the way people revere them.

I guess I'm just looking for any rays of hope anyone may have about chasing your dreams. I have a limited amount of energy, and for now I need to decide if I am going to start networking with writers and agents or pick my legal network back up.

Thanks, everyone!

P.S.: Please don't bother to suggest I practice law part-time or go Of Counsel or go in-house. I have looked into those options.

P.P.S.: If you are a rich benefactor looking for an artist to feed, I am available...!

Tool Looking for Testers to try our Professional Accountability Service

TLDR: We’re looking for testers for our professional accountability partner service. If you’re interested in trying out a month of our services, please sign up for a discovery call. If you want more information about us, check us out at habitcompanion.com.

Want to get more accomplished in the next month? Maybe you’re looking to supercharge your productivity, or maybe you’re in a rut and need a little help getting pulled out of it.

My name is Tony, and I’m part of Habit Companion. For the last two years, we’ve been building a professional accountability partner service.

We’ve helped our clients:

Run their first 5k
Find their dream job
Buy a house
Build a business
Wake up early
Exercise
Prepare for an exam
And many other goals

We think our service has gotten pretty good, but we just trained our new teammates and wanted to get a little more feedback, so we’re giving a month of accountability and support for free.

Here’s how it works:

You’ll hire us as your professional accountability partners, and we’ll provide you with the accountability and support that you need to get more done. We do that by providing:

1 Compass Call: to create a goal plan
1-3 Weekly Accountability Calls: to keep you focused and support you
2 Monthly Strategy Calls: to brainstorm solutions to challenges you face
Unlimited Accountability Text Messages: to check in with your progress
Motivating Text Messages: to cheer you on and support you
And more

Imagine how much more you could accomplish if you had your own team to keep you accountable and provide you with support. Let us be that team!

As a side note, because of the size of our team and the technology we use, we can only take on clients who are in the North/South American time zones with a Canadian/US-based number. We’re working on fixing those problems, and if you want to know when we’re accepting new clients outside of those restrictions, please feel free to sign up for our newsletter on our site.

If you’re interested in trying out what professional accountability coaching is all about, send me a private message, or check out our website at habitcompanion.com for more information.

Discussion Working as a nurse makes me not wanna grow old.

Working as a nurse makes me not wanna grow old

The amount of old people I meet, treat, care for and see passing is huge. So many of the elderly are either:
- lonely
- in pain
- handicapped
- unable to open a can of tuna
- slow
- forgetful
- bored
- fragile

Seeing this on a daily basis has given me this sort of primal feeling of living however I want and not being afraid to die at a younger age. I really don't want to become old.

Is this just a warped vision of the world? Because afterall, I only meet those requiring care. Is being old really that terrible or is it just a small percentage and am I making it worse than it is because all I see is that small percentage?

Discussion What is the one feeling you have about your mom that makes you feel indebted to her for today, tomorrow, forever and more?

For me mom is before the God. She is the reason why I exists and my first teacher who taught the most vital life lessons. Here are a few:
1. Never break anyone's heart.
2. Always stay closely connected with the people you feel they are your own.
3. Dreams are dreams. Some will become real some may not.

She use to serve me food in a large plate stating that it will make me large hearted person.

I’ve finally set goals based on things I actually want. So how come I feel so depressed all of a sudden? discussion

After a long time of going back and forth, being unsure how to proceed, and intense anxiety over what to do with my life, I finally confronted what I knew I had secretly wanted to do, decided on a few goals or things I want to do and planned them out. Namely: I picked a personal goalto workout/stay in shape by learning to play a sport and getting good at it so I have some self worth. Then, I made a long term career goal which involves changing careers. Then, I wanted to at least attempt a business idea I had for a while. And finally, my last goal is to basically invest more into creative endeavors and get good at one of them to become professional in one. After I decided my goals I felt great for like a few hours, but then I started to doomscroll and felt like I was massively dissociating. Now I feel depressed even thinking about my future or goals, and I'm starting to question myself and wanting to pivot elsewhere. Needless to say, it's been overwhelming and I feel like even though im not holding myself to do everything at once, Im just starting to feel like it's all a mistake, and my depression, which I didn't experience for a long time, is ramping up again. Why is this happening and how can I push past it?

How do you do things because YOU want to do it and not for ANYONE else?
Discussion

I find myself doing things for the sake of other people or how they perceive me.

Such as recently I wanted to start a YouTube channel comprising some computer programming videos. I love art and I play the guitar, I always wanted to have a YouTube channel about me. But I see myself restricting myself desiring to upload stuff like music, and art and I overthink vlogs. Like I just wanna vlog have a nice day and not think about how others perceive me. I just want to be natural because it is MY YouTube channel and it is not meant for anyone else.

Similarly, this happened in other places as well, I suffer from ADD which generally makes it hard to socialize or make friends and I've suffered making intimate connections since birth because of weird interests, inability to hold a short convo etc. So now I just reflect on what the other person says or does and I pick up stuff which is solely a display piece to lure others to talk with me and I'm so sick of it. I have a thing for only letter-close people who follow me on Instagram and seems like that's not a norm and is generally frowned upon??? wtf, what am I supposed to do?

I never got into makeup until recently when some girl commented on how I have potential and that I'm ruining it by not doing anything like dressing up or applying makeup-- this hurt me as I was perceived as ugly and stuff and now I'm super self cautious and I worked my way up to learning makeup and hair and I still feel bad I do it for others and not for myself, don't get me wrong I like aesthetics and there are times I do it for myself at 2 am and feel good about it, but I dislike that I HAVE to do it to feel good in my skin when I leave my house.

I hate that half of my social media presence is influenced by other people.

I just want to learn to accept myself and learn to live in solace as well as do stuff which only interests me and stop trying to link everything I do to others.

DISCUSSION Struggling to be confident/motivated for baseball tryouts.

Tryouts in 3 weeks feeling stressed

I’m jumping from house league to U16 AA (if I make the team) I’ve started playing baseball about 6-7 months ago. I’m feeling like I won’t make it, but a part of me thinks I will. I’m putting in the work every time I get to hit better, it’s correlated well into my game. I’m just super stressed that I may mess up, may get injured, etc. How do I maintain confidence when I know that almost all if not all of the other kids going to tryouts played their whole lives while me a random kid who started 6 months ago make it in the team while they didn’t. I’m not sure if I should go for it, a part of me wants to take the leap of faith, what could go wrong? I’ve already emailed the coach that I will tryout, I’m obligated to tryout now. I don’t know what to do. Sorry if I’m rambling, I don’t know where to post this. Advice help combat the stress and anxiety will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

those neural pathways, so the habit becomes automatic.

So, we start by running just 10 minutes for the first two weeks. Then, we increase. And there we have a roadmap with clear milestones.

This method works even better when you link it to another activity (Habit Stacking - James Clear). For example, instead of hitting the couch after work, you slip into your running shoes and knock out those 10 minutes.

Now, let’s bring this roadmap to life with a Habit Tracker (Hooked - Nir Eyal).

Week 1: Running for 10 minutes
Day 1 - Day 2 - Day 3 - … - Day 6 - Day 7
X 0 X 0 X

Week 3: Running for 15 minutes

Being exposed to your habit tracker every day is a game-changer. Seriously, there's nothing like the satisfaction of ticking off a box and watching your progress grow - it’s a sweet dopamine hit!

You can doodle your own tracker or grab a fancy template online. The cooler it looks, the more you'll want to check it out and keep those checkmarks coming.

**Learning something new:**
News is a dopamine trigger on steroids. It hijacks your brain, pulling you in with juicy updates, scandals, and drama. But here's a twist: Instead of getting lost in the noise, why not hack that dopamine surge by learning something new right after you finish a task? The more you’re into a topic, the more dopamine your brain releases - it's like a natural high, but with actual benefits.

For a bit of fun and surprise, you can grab yourself one of those tear-off desk calendars. You know the kind—with daily quotes that make you go, “Hmm, interesting.” Pick one based on something you’re into, and let the wisdom roll in, one page at a time. Something like:

*“It’s better to be alone and love yourself than to be stuck in a toxic relationship fueled by fake love.”* (Mic drop, right?)

**Social interaction & affection:**
I’m currently learning Spanish, and my not-so-secret weapon? ChatGPT. Yeah, it’s basically my DIY learning platform. I can whip up personalized lessons in seconds—it’s like having a language tutor on demand.

Then, one day, I had this brilliant idea: "Why not turn ChatGPT into my greatest fan?" Nothing easier than that. After each feedback I receive things "Well done, Kevin! You're making killer progress!" And you know what? Even though it was just text on a screen, it felt amazing. It kept me motivated like a champ.

But here's the truth: you don’t need an AI cheer squad. Real people work even better. Get a friend, colleague, or your partner in on your goals, and cheer each other on after every milestone. A little encouragement goes a long way, trust me.

And hey, don’t keep those wins to yourself - share them! Spread the positivity like wildfire. Your excitement is contagious, and before you know it, you’ll have everyone infected with good vibes!

# Tame the Ego:

Alright, here’s the heavy hitter. Everyone loves to throw the word “ego” around, but nobody really goes behind the scenes. Let’s have a little excursion to Vienna.

Freud, the granddaddy of psychoanalysis, broke it down: your ego’s just trying to keep you alive. It’s juggling the primal urges (the Id) and society’s “rules” (the Superego), all while trying to keep you sane.

So, next time your ego’s acting up, making you feel guilty or less-than, don’t go to war with it. It’s like a kid throwing a tantrum - what it needs is a little compassion, not a smackdown.

Zoom out, get curious, and treat those emotions like a scientist studying a weird bug. Don’t jump head first into your emotions. You’re in control, not your ego.

**How to work together with the ego?**
At the end of the day we have to learn becoming a friend of the ego. All it wants is to assure our survival, which is something positive. So whenever you feel not good enough for somebody, or when you “should have done better”, remember it’s the ego that communicates with you to push you becoming a better human.

And of course, the ego is not always right. It also represents views that are biased. Values that were adapted from our parents or society are not perfect either. Reframe values that don’t serve you

Discussion Motivated by Rejection: Healthy or Not?

25, Gay Man

I suppose this isn’t anything new, and is prevalent amongst anyone of any sexuality.

On the one hand, I’ve been lucky enough to where most guys I DM don’t reject me and are usually interested. On the other, anytime I find the one, i.e a guy so hot/my type that I’m shaking in my boots… rejected. Comes with the territory, of course, but damn, does it hurt. So much so, that there are 3 men that I literally think about every time I’m sitting on my ass, and it honestly works lol. Like, I wanna be in the league above them, and I’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Asked my therapist about it, and he was neither for or against it, just kinda indifferent. What do you all think? As shallow as it sounds, there is nothing that fuels me more than the acceptence/attention of a man I find attractive. The thought of them laid up with some other guy is truly like I got a 5 hour energy IV’d into my bloodstream because I CANNOT go for that lmao.

DiscussionEmbrace Your Journey, Pursue Your Dreams, and Live in the Present

As you stand at the gateway of a new chapter in your lives, I want to take a moment to speak directly to each of you. Today is more than just a milestone in years; it's a significant marker in your journey of growth, learning, and becoming the person you are meant to be.

When I was at this crossroads, stepping into a world without guidelines, cheat codes, or walkthroughs, I felt the weight of an uncharted adventure. Many of you may feel the same uncertainty, but unlike me, you have the benefit of guidance—guidance that I didn’t have but can now offer to you.

Your dreams are the essence of your future. They are the stars that guide you toward a life filled not just with success, but with purpose and joy. Cling to them fiercely. Never ever let them go, no matter the challenges. In this journey, it’s essential to stay true to yourself. Don’t waste your time worrying about what others think. Be authentic, be you. Your path is uniquely yours, and it’s on this path that you’ll find true fulfillment.

You will inevitably face giants along the way—challenges that seem insurmountable. This is where the story of David and Goliath becomes incredibly relevant. Like David, you possess the strength and courage to face your challenges, no matter how big they seem. His triumph over Goliath is a reminder that with determination and faith, you can conquer even the mightiest obstacles.

Consider the Spartan Paradox. The Spartans were known for their discipline and resilience, understanding the power of setting definitive goals. By setting a date to accomplish your dreams, you create a clear vision and timeline, turning abstract dreams into achievable objectives. This approach helps you stay focused and motivated, transforming your aspirations into reality.

Discipline will be your anchor. It’s the quiet strength that turns daily actions into meaningful strides toward your dreams. Embrace this discipline; it will shape your path to success and fulfillment. If it ever felt like you were persistently reminded about responsibilities or chores, remember that the purpose wasn’t just the task itself. Half of it was to motivate you, and the other half was to teach you a crucial lesson: it’s not just about doing the tasks, but about disciplining your mind to tackle even the things you may not want to do. That discipline is what will carry you through the toughest times and bring you closer to your goals.

Live in the present. Planning for the future is crucial, but so is savoring the now. The beauty of life and its lessons are embedded in every moment – make sure you cherish them. Each day is a new opportunity to learn, grow, and experience the fullness of life. Whether it's the simple joys or the challenges that shape you, these are the moments that define your journey. Don’t let the future overshadow the importance of today. It’s in the present that you build the foundation for the future you dream of.

Kindness and empathy are the hallmarks of true strength. These qualities go beyond mere virtues; they are the forces that move hearts and minds, bridge divides, and heal wounds. In your interactions with others, let kindness be your first response, and empathy your guiding perspective. These traits allow you to connect deeply with others, to understand their journeys and perspectives, enriching your own life experience. In a world that often values material success above all else, remember that the impact you make through acts of compassion and understanding is immeasurable. These are the qualities that will endear you to others, forge lasting relationships, and build a legacy of positive influence.

As you step into this next phase of your life, know that you are stepping into a world full of possibilities. You are equipped with courage, wisdom, and the potential to make a positive impact. Though I may not be there to celebrate each of your milestones in person, my thoughts, encouragement, and belief in you are ever-present. Here's to the adventures that await, the

I want to look good in a bikini next year. What are some good tips to get started? Discussion

I currently go to the gym but I struggle with my diet. I am sitting at 78kg with a goal of 63kg. I put on so much weight so rapidly last winter that I got really bad stretch marks. Since January, I have went from 82.5kg to what I am today (78.4kg). I so badly want to be 63kg to prove to myself that I can do if, and once I’ve hit that goal, I want to tone myself to fuck. I will be going back into education next month, but will only be there two days so I can work the gym around if. What other than the gym can I do to lose weight? I currently take apple cider vinegar but I don’t feel as if they do much. Thank you!

Discussion I struggled with waking up early until I got an accountability buddy, but is it worth it?

Hey, I'm Ahmad. I just graduated from uni doing engineering, and I'm 21 yo trying to figure it out.

I've always thought of myself as an early riser since I was in high school, but waking up early makes me so drained throughout the whole day - I usually wake up around 6:30-7 am.

My doubt is that it's not even that worth it to wake up early and I need your opinion.

Lately, I’ve been trying different ways to make mornings less of a struggle. I read somewhere that having an accountability buddy could help, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I reached out to a friend, and we started checking in on each other every morning. Surprisingly, it made a difference—just knowing someone else was up and moving helped me push through the grogginess.

I recently came across this idea where your “buddy” isn’t just a friend but a system that helps you stay on track. Has anyone here tried something like that? Does it work, or is it just another gimmick? I’d love to know what you think!

p.s I found the system that I am talking about on here.

Self-Love - though it may appear 'overrated' or as a 'cliche' for some, without it, it's nearly impossible to move out of our past and face life without guilt, blame & regret!

Self-love is beyond self-care. Learn to love yourself for who you are....bcos only then you can change what is bothering you in your own personality.

Love & Light to you!

DiscussionHow do I stop being lazy after accomplishing one task?

Pretty much the title. I have observed myself to relax and basically get lazy after completing one task. For example, I wake up on a weekend with a clear vision of what I am going to do and sometimes I have a created to do list. But as soon as I check one thing off of the list, I feel lazy and demotivated. Anyone relates? Anybody got a solution?
