Brazil lawmakers want to ban all IP obfuscation

According to a new law project in Brazil Private Networks are used to commit fraud, crime and produce child pornography, so lawmakers want to have Virtual Private Network providers and developers arrested and persecuted:

>Law 3066/2025 wants any Virtual Private Network providers or developers that allows or creates techniques to hide their IP address, such as Virtual Private Network Providers to face 1 or upwards to 3 years in prison. The rule was included in a bill that tightens legislation against the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the digital environment, including material produced using AI, “sextortion,” and grooming in online games.

Is Meta the culprit behind all the creepy targeted ads I'm getting?

I have noticed an alarming number of hyper-specific ads appearing in my Facebook and Instagram feeds that relate to topics I've only discussed verbally, never searched for online.

I don't really buy the whole "marketing algorithms are just that good and predictive these days" explanation. The ads I have in mind feel far too specific and they appear very shortly after the conversation happens.

For example, I was talking with my partner about setting up a will. Neither of us had searched anything online, we simply mentioned that it would be a good idea to get one done. The very next day, I was shown a Facebook ad about creating a will.

Another time, we were discussing getting a barbecue. I mentioned that if we grilled meat, I'd want to be careful not to overcook it due to carcinogens etc. The next day, Facebook recommended a post that literally said: "Grilling this weekend? Cooking meat at high temps can cause carcinogens to form."

These are the kinds of examples I mean when I say "hyper-specific" and creepy. I struggle to believe that normal marketing techniques alone could predict the types of ads I get this accurately.

I know I'm not the only person who's experienced this, so I'm wondering what others have done to better protect their privacy? I've just uninstalled all Meta apps in case that's the issue.

Not sure when this was implemented

But chrome password manager had a toggled on "automatically create a passkey" which my understanding is that law enforcement can force you to use biometrics to unlock anything. Probably just being worried for no reason. But Google hasn't given me a reason to trust anything they silently implement for years now.

Saw this on IG regarding using Claude to delete your digital footprint

I saw this IG and I don't know whether or not I'm allowed to post the link here. Basically, the dude in the video says you can use Claude to help delete your information from data brokers as opposed to paying somebody to do it for you. What are your thoughts on that?

Cars Without Eye Tracking

With new cars having the ability to track our eye movements and breathing patterns (to check if we are “tired” or “inebriated”), clearly this is a major privacy issue.

Does anyone know which newer cars DON’T have this? Anything 2024 and newer?

I need a new (at least new to me) car but don’t want my car recording my face 24/7

Could realistic face masks actually hide your face from age verification?

I heard about the data breach from Roblox's and Discord's ai (persona) and I'm thinking of using my face mask. I heard that they could still sell your data and recognize you even when using a mask according to google ai. I'm not really sure how that would work since i don't see any part of the face being visible and although google's ai isn't accurate, they're not wrong most of the time so idk if i should risk it

Are multiple Protonmail Emails under the Same Payment Correlated to each other on Proton's servers?

With Protonmail you can pay for multiple email addresses under one payment. Alternatively, you can pay for each email address separately under a different payment.

If you pay for multiple email addresses under one payment, will Protonmail correlate the fact that these email addresses are associated to one another? For example are you able to log in to one email address and then switch emails with the click of the button? This would indicate a correlation.

The reason I ask is for government subpoenas or for corrupt protonmail employees. If the goverment asks protonmail for "all the information available on xyz@protonmail.com", will protonmail then be forced to say "this email is associated with abc@protonmail.com, and def@protonmail.com"

Are Tuta and Proton just a scam?

Tuta and Proton owe their fame and userbase to their supposed privacy and E2EE. However, after reflecting a bit on it, I think it's just marketing and they don't have much to back it up.

Tuta and Proton encrypt emails client side. You write an email, it gets encrypted and sent to the provider's server, they therefore can't read it.

And it works, as long as you communicate with another Tuta/Proton account.

However those two are a minority in the providers market, and every other doesn't offer this privacy feature. So, when a gmail account sends you an email, it travels with nothing but TLS, it arrives at the Tuta/Proton server totally readable before it gets encrypted.

So there's no E2EE and zero trust model. Tuta or Proton can easily copy or scan these emails before encrypting them, and sell your data.

Even though their business model is based on premium accounts, they could profit from selling your data, and this wouldn't be a surprise, there are already cases.

So does it even make sense to use Proton or Tuta with their limitations, instead of another provider with more generous free/premium plan?

Any non privacy destroying ways to view IMDB reviews?

The site has just recently started requiring an account just to view reviews!

I surely don't want to sign in with my google account or amazon account or any other and have my viewing history tracked in that way. Not a chance, gosh no!

I've been trying some tricks I know that people use to get around paywalled stuff like for example using translate.google.com/. It looks like it's going to work but just before loading it throws an error. The couple I've tried on wayback machine haven't worked either.

If anyone knows any way or can can think of any tricks like that I'd be all ears.

>Sign in to access user reviews. See opinions from other fans, or write your own review.

>This extra step helps us keep IMDb's reviews a space for genuine, human voices.

That line above lol. Just to read reviews? That reasoning makes sense for leaving a review and I agree with protecting the site from bots for people writing reviews. But just to look? Obviously there is some other reason for this.

How did this person get my apartment number?

My wife had a falling out with a friend she met literally 5 days ago. She’s been texting nonstop from a total of 6 different numbers. My wife has been blocking every single number. She then texts our apartment number and says she’s going to bust the door down with a hammer. She also said this mistake “will kill her(my wife)”

I am obviously terrified. I’ve contacted police and documented everything. How on earth did she get my apartment number?! We both have all of our information taken off truepeoplesearch and other websites. When I look up both of our names nothing pops up.

I’m confused and scared and I want to know what to do to make me feel safer.

Does anyone know of a comprehensive list data collectors and the avenues used?

Its my personal belief that with the rise of AI, it either is or can be used to build comprehensive files of individuals without ever meeting them.

That leads me to my question, i do a lot to limit data collection on my personal device, but i cannot block or circumvent what i do not know.

Surely a list exists somewhere that attempts to go in-depth with what applications in our daily lives track our data.
