Stories that ft feminine rage or “good for her” revenge?
I’m putting together a summer reading list with a common theme: feminine rage or the “good for her” revenge point! Doesn’t have to be both in the book.
My current list as follows, I’ve only compiled this based on their summaries so pls tell me if these don’t align under feminine rage or “good for her”:
The unmothers - Leslie Anderson
Bright young women - Jessica Knoll
Sisters of the lost nation - Nick Medina
All’s well - Mona Awad
A certain hunger - Chelsea Summers
TIA!

Speculative fiction with disabled main characters (whose disability isn't ignored most of the book)
Hey friends! I'm looking to read more adult speculative fiction books with main characters who are disabled. In particular, those with chronic pain, chronic illnesses, and physical disabilities (though, as an autistic/adhd/bipolar person, I'm also open to explicitly neurodivergent mcs).
I'm not interested in books where the MC's disability only comes up when it's plot convenient, or books where their disability doesn't impact them (and definitely do not want recs for books where the mc "overcomes" their disability).
Major bonus if the MC has intersecting marginalized identities.
Thank you!
Most spec fic genres/subgenres welcome, but I particularly enjoy science fantasy, urban fantasy, and sci horror. Romantasy is the only spec fic subgenre I don't enjoy. I will read YA but greatly prefer Adult.

Looking for upbeat/lighthearted fiction books
I'm a huge fan of historical fiction. However, because the books I love most often contain heavy emotional issues relating to war, poverty, oppression and the like, I'd like to find books which are upbeat or just lighthearted. So far, I have found that romance novels are an ok break from the emotionally sad ones, but they're not very interesting. I have a strong preference for fiction. I'd like to try getting into mysteries, but they would have to be very lighthearted. Nothing with too much violence or overly scary themes. I love books with diverse characters and settings! All suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

Any really good books with a lead menopausal woman that isn’t written in the chick lit style?

suggest me a book for adulting
i’m in my 20s and i would love to know if there are any books that blend the chaos of urban life, relationships, and self-growth, with a little absurdism, poetic writing, or strange humor?
i want something that feels like therapy but disguised as a novel.
i really enjoyed Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino and Bluets by Maggie Nelson, but i’d like something with more of a story.

Suggest me a book based on my favorites:
F. Scott Fitzgerald- Tender is the Night
Hemingway - A Farewell to Arms
Faulkner - Sanctuary
Jack London - Call of the Wild
Dan Simmons - Summer of Night / The Terror
Denis Lehane - Shutter Island
Steinbeck - East of Eden
I’m really looking forward to something set from 1920s - 1970s. Deep nostalgia. Can take place anywhere in the world. Something that taps deep into the human condition through personal interactions. Nothing from the authors above.
Thank you in advance

Let’s Build a Time Capsule: What Books from the Last 25 Years Will Still Slap in 2075?
📦 Let’s build a time capsule.
Fiction or nonfiction. Literary or not.
Drop the books you think deserve to be taught, quoted, banned, tattooed, wept over, or rediscovered decades from now.
Bonus points if you give a reason or a favorite quote that’s still living rent-free in your soul.
Ready? I’ve got the shovel. You bring the books.

Suggest me a books for a man in his 70s who is getting depressed about the state of current politics.
This man is a strong democrat who is very active in the community. He worked hard to get Kamala elected, and is now watching the world burn and is really feeling down about how everything is turning out.

Hey all, looking for good reads in your 20s. Something thought-provoking and/or giving a birds-eye-view on this stage of life. Extra points if it speaks to the fear of never finding your person (and how to quiet that fear). Thanks!!

I’ve hit rock bottom.
I feel like I’m at the lowest point of my young adult life. I have no friends, recently gone through a breakup, with very little career ambition, and a few of my family members are on the brink of death.
I’m looking for a book to read. Maybe to help me, maybe to distract me, maybe to get absorbed into. I don’t know.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Male protagonists dealing with sexual trauma?
I'm working through some personal stuff and I'm looking for books with a capable male protagonist who struggles with a history of sexual trauma. Preference for the event to be violent rather than coerced, but can be entirely off-screen/vague.
I usually read fantasy, but I've been wanting to branch out lately, although I generally don't much like contemporary real world settings.

I need to get out of reading slump. Give me recommendations that will grip me from the start.
I have been in a reading slump for sometime. I have consumed a lot of content through films and movies but haven't read anything for months. Last book I read was "Project Hail Mary" which immediately sucked me in. I need recommendations like that (those who have read the book will understand). Something that s short chapters, immediately grabs your attention — a proper page turner
Also I don't really want a devastating sad book to read – because I personally believe I am not in that headspace right now. So if the book has pinches of good humor and comedy here and there, that would be lovely.
Any and every help will be appreciated.
Personal favourite genres: Murder Mysteries (those where a detective solves the case), Comedy, Drama, Sci-fi.

Books that capture the helplessness and resentment of women stuck in roles bound by duty and tradition in 'elite' families really well?
Looking for books (any genre) that do justice to the inner turmoil of female characters who bound by duty for their family—as a wife, daughter, or mother—and expected to be the torchbearer of tradition, but are nevertheless resentful of it.
Some of them are proud to be undertaking such a responsibility, but still a part of them are bitter.

I'm looking for horror story that's set in the UK
I really want some nostalgic, clearly British horror that's set in the UK and does a really good job using the culture or the setting to tell a horror story. Bonus points if it has decent working class characters or is set in a poor neighbourhood. But I'm up for anything as long as it's set in the UK and leans into the culture.

Comedy Books
I struggle to find fiction that is genuinely very funny.
Douglas Adams was great. Terry Pratchett was too, but I do need to read more of his stuff. Some of Irvine Welsh's could make me laugh.
Most I find on lists don't make me laugh at all.
Any suggestions?

Historical Romance appropriate for 11 year old
My daughter (11) set a goal of reading a chapter book this summer. She reads every single day but always picks graphic novels.
She said she wants a historical romance but it needs to be no spice obviously and appropriate. I also want it to be hard to put down!
Edit: I should add we have listened to a lot of classic on audiobooks. She struggles with “old timey” words when reading solo because she has a hard time focusing. I am proud of her setting this goal for herself. I am an avid reader (100+ books a year) and want her to see you can get lost in a chapter book too.

Books on the History of Pregnancy, Miscarriage and Abortion?
A while back I was watching a Youtuber I like review how accurate pregnancy is depicted in TV shows, everything from Call the Midwife to Game of Thrones. I started reading some stuff online and was shocked about how little I knew.
I was wondering if someone has written a book about pregnancy throughout the years and how our thoughts have changed about it as medical technology advances.
Edit: omg thank y’all for so many good recommendations! I didn’t know if this was the correct place to ask but it definitely was. I have gotten everything from memoirs to scientific papers and I will be working on reading it all.

Suggest me a thinking book
Hi all!
I’m an avid reader but typically fantasy stuff or slightly spicy books.
I hate how addicted to technology I am and recently realised how much I struggle to be with my own thoughts and feel lesser than my peers in general/political knowledges (uk).
Does anyone have a suggestion for a book (non fiction but easy to read if that makes sense) that gripped them and either introduced them to a whole new topic or gave them an interesting perspective?
Not massively jazzed about self help stuff but I think I would enjoy philosophy.

Books that Beautifully and Fully describe the Life of a City
Hello!
I'm currently reading Mrs. Dalloway, and the way she describes London -- specially the city life, full of movement and vitality and alive -- it's just beautiful. Any other authors that do this masterfully?
I'm also reading Invisible Cities, and although I'm loving every single second of it, the city descriptions are not of the same kind to those which I'm thinking about; the focus in Cities is not primarily on the full life of the cities (for the most part) but instead on their creativity and almost meta-cognitive structure (which, again, I absolutely adore, but it doesn't scratch the itch).
I'm willing to read anything: Fiction and non-fiction; memoirs, history and anthropology; novels, short stories, poems, even plays -- anything that gives me a city alive, fully human.
Thank you very much in advance!

Books that irritated you while reading them, but loved them in the end?
I recently finished The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante and I could barely get through the first half of the book (glad I did in the end).
Olga's frustration and her train of thought were written so well that I ended up feeling frustrated, mad and sad too (also, it didn’t help that I was going through a tough time at the same time), so I had to take breaks while reading it.
As the story goes on, her thoughts get more composed, and so does the writing. It starts to feel a bit more calming because she’s calmer.
So while I was reading it, I found it a bit too heavy - but once the whole book wrapped up, I loved the way it was written as a whole.
I’m actually looking for more books that have a similar feel to them, so if you’ve read anything that gave you the same kind of experience, I’d love to hear about them.

Need a book recommendation that’s actually fun to read
Hey everyone,
So I’ve recently decided I want to get into reading, but I have zero idea where to start. I get bored pretty easily, so I’m looking for something that has action, adventure, or just an overall engaging plot that keeps you hooked.
The only book I’ve ever fully read (and actually enjoyed lol) was Back in Time by Geronimo Stilton.
I’m looking for something that’s fun, fastpaced, maybe with some action or adventure. Just nothing slow or too deep.
Throw me your best recs please. Beginnerfriendly but not boring.
Small note: I’m only looking to read hard copies, not eBooks. Just feels better that way
Thanks in advance
