Racoon Takeover
Hello! This is a multipart post.
We had a family of raccoons make a home in our storage barn. We were able to get them removed, but they destroyed a lot of our stuff. I went out there tonight to look through a couple of boxes and I did wear gloves and I was only out there for about five minutes. But now I’m worried about the roundworm in their poop. I didn’t realize I could catch it by breathing in the dust. While I didnt physically see any poop tonight, I’m still worried it’s lingering in the dust because it’s an enclosed space. Someone please tell me I’m not going to die 😅
We have something very valuable in one of the boxes so my husband is going to suit up next week and get that item. After that, we have a junk company coming out to throw away everything else. We do have some items that were in plastic totes, so thankfully, those can be saved. After we remove everything that can’t be saved… what is the best way to decontaminate this storage barn? How do we keep this from not happening again? Not only did they destroy our items, they infested our yard with fleas, which then led our house to be infested.
I did reach out to our rental insurance company, and unfortunately, this isn’t covered. Our landlords do not seem concerned either. This is all on our dime so if we can do anything ourselves, that would be best.
