Raccoon roundworm
Hi, let me start by saying I've had anxiety about raccoon roundworm since I heard about it. I know it's extremely rare and I'm not even aware of any cases in my state (New England region). There was one documented case in Massachusetts which is not where I live.
Our son stepped in animal scat during our walk today. This scat looked already stepped on previously and had little twigs in it but I don't really know what animal it was. It didn't seem like dog poo. Is there anything I need to do? Obviously we had to get in the car. We take our shoes off at the door but that's about it. We have pets that will inevitably walk on our door mats. This was a main roadway type path so not where scat would be expected.
I know I'm neurotic but it'd be nice to hear that this is an overreaction. Google makes it sound so scary and like an invisible trace is beyond toxic. Not sure how we'd deal with it anyway to be honest. CDC mentions boiling heat which seems unrealistic at this point.

I have a shed in my back yard and some raccoons decided to make the roof of the shed their own personal latrine. Huge loaves of crap. All over the shed.
What can I do to deter these raccoons and get them to stop going up there?

apparently a family of raccoons has been living on this upper deck area of the old building my boyfriend works in. this morning when he got to work, there was an apparently dead raccoon laying on the ground outside the back door on the ground floor. he noted that it had no visible injuries, its eyes were open, and it didn't appear to be breathing. no one poked at it or anything but everyone around agreed he was dead. they called animal control to come collect the body.
a few hours later, when AC got there, my bf took them out back and the raccoon was gone. what could have happened ? he was a large adult and i would assume too heavy for birds to carry off. we're in an urban area in the middle of the day, so probably no bigger predators wandering around. the public doesn't have access to the back area he was found in. would his family have taken his body back for proper burial? do they have nine lives? resurrection? any chance he was just stunned or knocked out from falling off the deck or something? i couldn't find much about unconscious raccoons on google. it's been a slow day and i am intrigued by this mystery. wondering if any raccoon people might have some insight. thank u
