Don't forget the Asset Store freebie of the week - Mobile puzzle game template + editor
Hey folks, as some of you might know, Unity gives away a paid asset every week. This week you can grab a mobile puzzle game template: Jolly Merge | Template + Editor
Just add it to your cart and in the checkout page enter the code: WATERMELONGAMES
Other assets from the publisher are also on sale if you are interested.
I'm doing these reminders in the Unity3D sub weekly and here as well when relevant, but if you want to set your own reminder, keep an eye on this link.
It gets updated every week on Thursday, 8AM PT
Cheers!

Does there come a point when there's too many scripts on something?
I'm following along to this tutorial series I found on Udemy about making a top down rpg. I kind of like the way this person implemented a finite state machine, but I'm starting to get tons of scripts on the enemies and already on the player. For example, the player has 6 scripts, which doesn't seem like a lot right now, but there's one script for the player's health, one for the mana, one for xp. My concern is that if tasks are broken down this modular then it get burdensome to handle. Like, why wouldn't I just make 1 script for PlayerStats?
The enemies have an EnemyBrain script that holds the state machine, but then has individual scripts for each action they could perform(Wander, Patrol, Attack, Chase, Dead...) also individual scripts for decisions that control when they switch from one state to another(Detect Player, Attack Range, Died...) and again, I'm not that far in. I'm about to attach a script specifically for selecting the enemy, but I don't see why I can't put selection logic in the EnemyBrain script. I mean, all enemies are going to be selectable.
I dunno, I get that we want modular code that can be used separately from other scripts, but can it get to a point where it's overkill?

2d unity developers
Hey everybody. Apologies if this isn’t allowed and feel free to remove it if it isn’t.
Basically I’ve been given a chance to pitch a mobile game to my company. If approved I will need a team to make it happen.
The premise so far is a 2D turn based RPG that focuses on story and characters.
If you’re interested then please contact me and I’ll be in touch should the pitch be approved.
Thank you for your time.

Am I doing okay?
The game you see is Knight Island. It is a tile based roguelike deckbuilder game. It has unique idea I think but before I came up with that idea I spent too much time on prototyping the ideas I have and unfortunately the first idea that I picked was not this game so I have wasted 2 months on it. It is the 4th month after I said "You know what? I am going to release a Steam game."
3 weeks after I decided to develope this game I have created the Steam page. But I had almost nothing to show so I took some screenshots (and used some tricks) and created very very basic Steam page. After I have posted couple of screenshots and videos of my progress on Reddit, today I got 100 wishlists.
Do you think this is a good number? Is this a validation of my idea? Because people wanted to wishlist the game eventough I had some bad screenshots and no trailer. And also is this a good idea to create Steam page this early? I mean I did not quit my job to work on this game (yet :) ) but still I need it to get at least little bit of success.
I tried to tell everything about my process. So I would really like to hear your thoughts. And also if you have interested or you want to check out for feedback this it the Steam page.

Making a low-poly game but worried about assets.
I've been working on a game for a long time now in a low-poly style. I'm reaching the point where I have to make decisions about art style for player/npcs. I am a programmer mainly, but have taught myself some 3D design skills over time, but still can't produce something on the level of synty assets. I have some low-poly assets from the unity store i've been using for prototypes, but now that it comes to it, I'm at a bit of a standstill on how to go forward with NPC/player art.
Essentially, i'm worried about directly using synty assets, or anything that looks like synty assets. I am having trouble imagining what good low-poly characters look like that aren't synty products. I've seen posts here in the past that say if people see synty assets they will just rage on "asset flipping". I have put a lot of work into my game and think its going great, but would hate if that was the thing that caused me problems in the end.
So here are my questions. How might I make low poly characters that aren't synty-esque? Are there examples of low poly environments that use that type of characters that feel like they fit? Is it even necessary to not use these assets? If I did use synty modular characters and made them diverse, would it still be perceived poorly?
I've seen this sort of topic before in some variations. I feel like my game has a lot of unique and good mechanics, and I'm just afraid of people avoiding it because it has a certain style.
I would appreciate any thoughts or insights anyone has. I'm right against the world style/npc style barrier, and have to choose soon before I can progress much more with my game. Thanks for your help.

Is it difficult to convert an old Android app to Unity?
10+ years ago I made a 2D game in Android. It wasn't too crazy complex, but there was a lot of code basically all in Java (with calls to the Android libraries). Now I'm considering porting it over to Unity so I can have it on multiple platforms and have easier updates.
How difficult would it be to take an ancient Android codebase and rewrite it in Unity? I'm very experienced in C# but have never messed with the Unity interface. I'd be mostly replacing Android calls with Unity stuff, like drawing, calling up graphics, etc. Would a few thousand lines of code take something on the order of like 30 hours or would I basically be rewriting the entire thing? Heard of any nice utilities to convert old Android projects?
