Is SceneNZBs having some issues lately?

Is it just me, or has SceneNZBs been having more hiccups lately?
I never had issues before, but over the past few weeks Radarr, Sonarr, and Prowlarr have been reporting it as unreachable quite often, even when the status page shows no problems. It’s happening right now as well. Sometimes outages are listed, but it feels like this is happening more frequently than before.

Minimum viable Usenet setup?

As an opposite to the “how many indexer” threads, I was wondering what folks ideal “minimum viable Usenet setup” would be on the indexer and provider side, for as little cost as possible, while covering most mainstream stuff.

I have played around with the idea of giving friends who are curious about Usenet a basic setup with a used ex-corporate minipc running Linux (or TrueNAS) and a basic arr stack - with a paid up indexer & provider for 1 year to get them going.

I have a bunch of the MiniPCs, the software is open source, so it’s only the provider and indexer combo that are the wildcards!

My current idea is geek and frugal (2 backbones + bonus). Covers most mainstream stuff, I think?

What would your minimum viable choices be?

What's the current situation with dogNZB

I've been looking into adding a couple more indexers, and it feels like I'm getting mixed opinions on dogNZB. Is the issue with the API still ongoing with no communication? It seems like a great indexer, but if I can't automate with it then I probably won't go for it.

Always getting corrupt images via Newslaser

Sorry in advance - this is, I'm sure, absolute noob central for experienced newsgroup users...I've dipped in in the past, this time there were some big files I was after (complete builds for handheld consoles with like a bunch of emulators for old consoles on, as an img file). The links are hosted on what seems to be a pretty reliable site, with comments for them all being generally positive (or at least, they got it working) - however I've tried 3 different files a couple of times and each time when I try to mount the disc image I'm told the file is corrupt.

When it's downloading I can see all the RARs and a few PARs, then at the end these have vanished and I'm just left with the img file (like it unrared itself). I'm downloading to an external drive due to space, and it's possible that there have been interrruptions in the DL...but I would think this wouldnt be an issue and the program would make sure all the data is there before announcing that the DL is 'complete'. ANy ideas? Again, sorry if this is a dumbass question and has been answered a million times.

My NZBPlanet account has been disabled. Please help!

Hi everyone,

My NZBPlanet account got disabled. All I did was updating my APIs just as NZBPlanet suggested. I am a Lifetime member but not sure how I can resolve this. I sent an email though "Contact Us" but I haven't heard back.I don't think I violated our Terms of Use.

Would u/NzbPlanetdotnet be able to help me?

NZB Get-why NZBs got queued all of a sudden?

Hey, got my Newshosting and Tweaknews server bundle setup with NZB Get. Used Drunkenslug for NZBs, made a couple of NZB imports into NZB Get without any issues. However, now it won’t let me download new NZBs and the status is QUEUED. I checked my disk space, deleted some files, but the situation stayed the same.

What happened and how to get it going again?

Question for the Frugal fans

I’ve been using Usenet since before we had apps that assemble everything for us. But these days I’m approaching the “old fart” stage of life and in recent years I treat it like an appliance for the most part and don’t pay much attention to the inner workings anymore.

During the Black Friday sales, I grabbed the deal from Frugal because it had a lot of supportive comments here. I connected to every server they listed(including the new au and as servers), tested connectivity on each one at a time, including the bonus server. Then I toggled off my newsgroup ninja servers and took it for a spin.

In the several days since then my completion rates are horrid. When I do get completions, it’s 75% for the bonus server. The rest minimal.

So is Frugal decent normally? Am I the oddball? Enquiring minds want to know!

So I toggled back on the ninja servers and set them all to priority 9. With all of the frugal servers up top, I still need ninja to get decent completions. Vast majority of message bodies spam through the frugal servers as not found the gets them from ninja.

Eweka raising prices by €2/month

Just got an email from Eweka saying that all their plans will go up by €2 per month starting with the next billing cycle. For my old plan, that’s almost a 100% increase (around 80%). Pretty disappointing, to be honest.

Newshosting bundle includes Tweaknews & Easynews - do I still need another provider or indexer?

Hey all,

I recently signed up for Newshosting and noticed my subscription also includes Tweaknews and Easynews. I wanted to sanity-check my setup and learn what others are doing in a similar situation.

Current setup (working well overall):

Automation: Prowlarr + Sonarr + Radarr
Downloader: SABnzbd
Provider configured: Newshosting (SSL)
Indexer: NZBGeek (paid, 1-year plan)
Fully automated workflow

Observations / issues:
Most grabs work fine
Some downloads fail with “missing articles”
Occasionally Prowlarr / Sonarr / Radarr fails to connect to Geek

Questions:

1. Since my Newshosting plan includes Tweaknews, is the general recommendation to add it as a backup/fill server in SABnzbd and stop there?
2. Do people in this situation usually still add a 3rd Usenet provider (or a block account)?
3. I understand Easynews is more of a web-based/manual option - do any of you actually integrate or use it alongside an automated ARR stack?
4. On the indexer side:
Is Geek + one more paid indexer the sweet spot?
Any current recommendations that pair well with Geek?
Any BF/Christmas/new year sales to look out for?
5. For those using Prowlarr, what query / grab limits do you typically set to avoid hammering indexers while keeping RSS responsive?
6. Any tips for reducing intermittent indexer connection failures?
Not looking to over-optimize - just want a stable, low-maintenance setup using what I already have, and to know when it actually makes sense to add more.
Appreciate any real-world setups or lessons learned. Thank you

Usenet-Crawler down?

I've been trying to access these past 2 weeks but seems to be down. I've read previously it has a tendency to do that, so maybe this isn't anything new.

Do we have any idea what's going on and when it will be back onlien again though?

Are there an official discord server or anywhere else we might get any info?

Torrenting vs usenet

As the titles states. I started torrenting, when I first got into this. After a few days I found out about Usenet and indexers. I have a full docker set up and can download anything I want through an app from my phone which will go through sonarr or radarr. Why would you spend the time torrenting vs just having something automated?

Anyone from ninjacentral here?

Hi
I am living in a country where PayPal is unsupported and Bitcoin has some partial support. Anyways, before my trial expired I had mailed them regarding payment issues and they did respond. Now I have gotten the hold of payment and want to proceed but no one is responding to emails for the past week. In meantime the account got disabled and I cannot login. If anyone from ninjacentral is here and can help me it will be great as no one is responding to my emails for the past week.
TIA

Help, please: is this newly-implemented traffic shaping?

Hi all, I'm trying to figure out if I'm encountering ISP traffic shaping on usenet downloads. I used to get 100MB/s (maybe dropping to 50-75MB/s when unpackaging was happening concurrently). Recently, I've noticed it seems to top out at about 15-20MB/s, and sometimes as slow as 1-2MB/s.

My setup:

* ISP: Google Fiber gigabit, 1000 up/1000 down
* Server: Ryzen 2700X, downloading via hardwired ethernet to an SSD
* Tweaknews + Newsgroupdirect with unlimited plans
* Sabnzbd allowed through firewall (nothing has changed about this pre-/post- me noticing the throttled speeds)

Things I've tried:

* Changed SAB ports to alternative SSL and non-SSL ports
* Varying connection counts
* Changed download location to a different SSD
* Tested on my gaming PC and got 100MB/s as usual yesterday, but now that too is getting throttled with similar speed patterns (see below)
* Torrents, speedtests, and regular downloads continue at full line speed

Here's my [SAB status results](https://i.imgur.com/3spPYds.png) and [some traffic](https://i.imgur.com/9iIWbd0.png) I thought was literally shaped in an interesting way ([very peak-and-valley](https://i.imgur.com/Exs1CHK.png)).

Would love some input on this as I am very confused as to what to try next and saw a lot of other discussions about traffic shaping, but never from Google or it was resolved in a different way. Thanks!

How do indexers know what the file actually is?

I've been hearing about usenet for so long, and despite how I like to think I'm tech savvy, I was still deeply confused about what the concept was.

So I decided to learn what the deal was, and I think I have some rough idea now. My questions more or less concern indexers in particular. The first thing I thought about was that if headers contained the title and other easily identifiable information there shouldn't be much thought to choosing an indexer.

However, people have pointed out the obvious that files with unobfuscated headers will get immediately taken down through DMCA requests. But now I'm not sure how do indexers accomplish their job, is it a manual process more or less? Do people upload files with obfuscated headers and then map the true headers in specific indexers?

Either way, the concept is so unique and damn interesting. Usenet seems to be a very good compromise between decentralization and reliability/speed

Take care when purchasing a PureUseNet account!

If you, like me, feel the need to have your free vpn included with the usenet subscription I'd like to warn you about getting an account there. The promo's promise you the "Free VPN" but as soon as you click that offer another one appears WITHOUT the VPN. This is not directly visible but as I look for my vpn setting I found none. The website isn't all that clear unfortunately and the FAQ section doesn't even include any VPN related articles.

They do offer a 30 day money back guarantee and their support is nice as well as quick to reply. I will be getting the refund unfortunately because I do not feel that false advertising should be rewarded. Hopefully they will make their website clearer.

Best Provider and Indexer combo?

I'm pretty new to usenet and wanted to see what might the general best setup might be. I'm in the US and already have the Newshosting + easynews + tweaknews deal. I was also considering adding the Frugal + blocknews deal though to cover other backbones. Is that a solid combo?

For indexers, I have geek and althub, but also plan on adding slug, ninja, and dog.

Why are so many links broken?

I just setup nzbDAV and have newshosting as my provider. I also have NZBgeek as my indexer. What I noticed is that lots of files, especially the larger movie files keep failing. Some of them work but I feel like most don’t. Am I supposed to add more providers/indexers to solve this? I did notice that I’ve had pretty good success with shows with smaller file sizes though I’m not sure if that’s just a coincidence.
