Looking to replace my providers
Hi everybody!
So, currently I have Easynews, NGD and Frugal as providers, only EN is on a yearly plan, the other two are not and honestly I'm just looking to replace almost all of them or all of them but I don't know which options might be best so I'm asking you guys to see if I gather any useful input.
I do have some indexers, finding content is not the issue, it's the money that's costing me monthly to maintain all of them so I'm looking for a solution to that.
Any info would be highly appreciated, thanks!

Tabula Rasa support
I signed up for tabula rasa when it was open and I never got an email activation, maybe a spam filter issue or something, not sure.
I sent a message to support but still haven't heard and its been a week or so. Anyone have experience with TR support before?
Fully aware I'm not a customer (yet) so they don't necessarily have much incentive to reply, choosing beggars and all. More or less I'm just bummed out that it seems I might have missed the window.
Crossposting here for hopefully some more visibility.

Supplementary providers for Newshosting?
Hello!
Started yesterday with Usenet and I'm so hooked. New HDDs are in my cart already!
Question: I started with Newshosting which is Omicron backbone. Which other providers should I add? As far as I understand it, another provider with Omicron backbone is redundant?
Thanks!

Would you use Usenet 2.0?
In different group I started thinking about creating Usenet 2.0 protocol.
https://www.reddit.com/r/enshittification/comments/1qpjlde/stopping\_death\_and\_enshittifaction\_of\_the\_internet/
I want to ask you guys here to validate my idea - if you would use an app that I'm wanting to build, why not, what would be most crucial feature for you to have any use of it, etc.
1. Imagine you download and launch "exe" app.
2. Inside you have 2 areas: "world" (searching) and "self" (Content Creation - CMS).
3. World is where you search for content available in Catalogs. Discovery and search engine area. Self is where you put your content out in the world and it get's synced to Catalogs of your choice.
4. Any kind of content you create in CMS - Article, Social Media Posting, Recipe, is immediatelly synced to Catalog of your choice and every user connected to that Catalog can immediatelly search and find it.
5. When you do the search - you search across all Catalogs you have configured.
6. Essentially - it's an organized, mostly public, distributed database. Simple place, where you get to read and write. Download and Upload. Where you own your content and also own what you see by selecting subset of Catalogs to search from.
There is a bit more to that, but I didn't want to get too much into boring details. I'd be happy to hear your feedback.

Unpacking keeps failing on certain files - any ideas?
Getting unpack errors on maybe 1 out of 10 downloads. Par2 repair runs but sometimes still fails. Files look fine in the NZB.
Is this a provider issue or something on my end? Running SABnzbd on Windows if that matters.

Extract script
Sabnzbd downloads to a tmp folder, unpacks them to the completed folder and shows up as completed in history. My problem is that they end up as consecutively numbered files like “file.7z.001”, which I then have to extract manually so that sonarr/radarr can then grab the file. Is there a script or setting that can automate the extraction process?
Update: hey guys it seems that the +delete setting actually worked, but windows being windows, the setting didn’t take effect until I rebooted the pc.

Any tools I can use to check for gaps in my set up?
I am currently using:
Providers
Easynews
Giganews
Vipernews
Indexers
DrunkenSlug
NinjaCentral
I am starting to notice large gaps of shows missing episodes or even entire new seasons. Any tips for where I can find how to expand my coverage without overlapping what I already have?

Do you put more effort into Usenet indexers or providers?
I’ve always gone back and forth with this. Sometimes it feels like adding a better indexer helps more than adding another provider, and sometimes it’s the opposite. I’m not running anything crazy, just trying to keep files consistent without stacking five services on top of each other.
For people who’ve been tweaking their setups for a while, what’s made the biggest difference for you?

Email Support for Newshosting
Does anyone have an email to get support from Newshosting?
I've tried using their website but after I've proved to recaptcha that I'm human and clicked submit, the page flickers but nothing happens.
Then I'm once again asked to prove I'm human.
I've tried so many times that I'm beginning to have doubts about my own humanity.
Any help gratefully received.

Difference between backbones?
Hi experts,
I always thought 'usenet is usenet' but reading posts in this community makes me think otherwise.
I understand there are different article retention periods, but if we take the smallest one I have seen, say 3 years, is it right to say that there is 100% posting overlap between the providers, so the provider makes no. Difference?
Or is it really the case that there are some articles that only appear on one provider?

Newshosting down completely
I can't even get to their website without it timing out.
All my SAB connections also time out.
Does anyone know what is happening with newshosting or where to find a status update not through their website?
Edit: it is great it's working for other people. I emailed support as I can use other providers and websites so it's not a local issue. For me only newshosting is completely down.

Peering info --> Farm to Others.
So it's just recent that i came across certains MSGIDs that were uploaded using FARM but EWEKA is finding it tough, to fetch them. I have seen an average of ~10% of articles that I need to source from others.
And i found that NewsDemon does the fillup at best. I could've used FARM itself.. but just to experiment and knowledge I'd like to know best providers peering best with articles uploaded using FARM.
And mind you i am no game expert here - i've never sought beyond EWEKA ever since my 5 years of Usenet history. You can say I am an EWEKA fan here, so all this for some extra knowledge that won't hurt.

New Usenet User
Hey all, I am fairly new to this and spent a good portion of my weekend setting up my docker containers. Followed a YouTube video and a couple guides online to set things up and it all seemed to be working as of Sunday night. Monday night I ran into an issue with nzbget where it kept repeating the same error over and over: "Could not resolve hostname news.frugalusenet.com: Error -3 - Try again". Looked into the issue and tried resolving it by assigning DNS directly to Glueten and then restarting the docker VM. That seemed to fix it and all was well. Tonight I went to check on it again and it is back to throwing the same error over and over again. I am currently set up using frugalusenet as my newsserver. Nothing has changed since I had it working Monday night, so I am unsure as to why it would error out. Any help is greatly appreciated! I will try to answer all questions to the best of my ability.

How do I pick a usenet provider?
Hello there, I want to start using usenet for some things I do but there are so many different options that its rather overwhelming to pick. I was just wondering whether you guys can answer some questions if you dont mind.
1. Is there any big differences between the backend providers such as Omicron and Abravia?
2. I see that there are multiple companies under each backend provider, if two have 10 years of data retention, will they have the same data?
3. Are there any specific companies to avoid?
4. Are there any pitfalls to watch out for?
5. Do you guys have any recommendations?
I was looking around and saw that easyusenet.nl are a good price and have good reviews but with all the options around, Im not sure overall. I dont need a vpn and I dont think I'll need anything older than a year.

DogNZB Update - I know there is a lot of hate for Dog, but they are working hard.
> Update: Two of the four new servers have already been configured, tested, and are fully ready for deployment. Given that I will be out of the country for the next two weeks, I’ve decided to delay the production rollout to avoid making critical infrastructure changes without being available to immediately validate and troubleshoot if needed. For this reason, all four servers will be deployed during the first week of February, when I am back and can ensure everything transitions smoothly from sandbox to production. These upgrades are part of our ongoing legacy hardware replacement initiative, focused on improving overall system stability, performance, and long-term reliability. In parallel, a software upgrade roadmap has been defined and will be executed during the first half of 2026 to meet current needs and enable upcoming features.

Torrent Seeding + Usenet + Rclone
Greetings, posting this on r/usenet and r/torrents as it touches on both subjects.
I have been dabbling with Usenet after picking up some indexer/provider deals on Black Friday. Set up SABnzbd and dropped it into the *arr stack alongside my existing torrent setup. Plugged it into Autobrr and Cross-Seed and really enjoy seeing my NZB downloads populate across all my private torrent trackers.
Fallen down a rabbit hole this week of NZBdav, which gave me this idea:
What would happen, if I tried to cross seed NZBs from a rclone drive? I went looking for some posts from people who have tried it. I did not find a specific example of someone seeding NZBs this way, but did see some mention of degraded seeding performance when using rclone in general. I kinda want to test it, but I'm wondering:
Will it cause problems with my private torrent trackers? I wouldn't think so other than possibly slow upload speed.
Will it cause problems with my usenet indexer / provider? This is my biggest concern, I don't want to get my account revoked for "abuse" or some other reason for running this test.
Has anyone tried this, or anyone have insight on the possible ramifications? If this is a terrible idea, please talk me out of it.
