On March 19, 2013, sarin gas was used against Assad’s forces in Khan al-Assal, killing 26 soldiers and 10 civilians.
The Syrian Government requested an investigation committee from the United Nations, but America stalled and the committee did not arrive until August 21. On the same day of its arrival, the sarin attack on Ghouta occurred.
Is it conceivable that the Syrian regime launched the attack on the same day the committee it had requested arrived? Was it in its interest to carry out the attack, given the American threats of direct intervention on behalf of the opposition?
Analysis by the UN Commission and the Human Rights Council has shown that the same type of sarin was used in both attacks.
Türkiye has prosecuted a number of Turkish journalists and experts who have confirmed that the gas used in the attack originated in Türkiye, not Syria.
The US backed out of the attack at the last minute after US military officials assured President Obama that there was no moral or legal basis for military action against Syria, given the lack of proven Syrian involvement in the attack.
The group that used sarin gas in Khan al-Assal against Syrian regime forces, and in Eastern and Western Ghouta against civilians, is the Al-Nusra/HTS Front, with Turkish support.

The Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria and Abroad
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
God Almighty said:
"And do not mix truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it]."
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
We, and those we represent from the Alawite community in Syria and abroad, declare with urgency and the highest degree of moral, humanitarian, and legal responsibility:
1. To affirm what was stated in the previous statement issued by the Council President requesting international protection, which is the demand of the overwhelming majority of the Alawite community and other minorities.
2. The announced constitutional declaration enshrines the totalitarian vision of the previous regime and reproduces an exclusionary dictatorship in a new form.
3. This constitutional declaration does not guarantee fair representation for the establishment of the civil state sought by all segments and components of the Syrian people. Comprehensive national democratic pluralism that achieves social justice, and whose constitution guarantees the separation of powers, the right to citizenship, the rule of law, and equal rights and opportunities.
4. We demand the withdrawal of all factions, regardless of their names, from the Syrian coast in general, and from Alawite areas in particular. We also demand, as in other areas of Syria, that government and service institutions, as well as security and police forces, be fairly represented by the people of the coast, with all its components, especially the leadership linked to the Ministries of Defense and Interior, with all their branches and institutions.
5. We support and affirm the steadfastness of our people at the Russian military base to ensure their safety and security, and we call on the Russian authorities to provide them with the necessary medical and food supplies.
6. We demand that aid of all kinds not be prevented from reaching the affected areas, and that they bear full responsibility for any obstruction to its delivery.
7. We demand the immediate and swift opening of an independent international investigation under the supervision of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to document the massacres, crimes of genocide, and religious ethnic cleansing against the Alawite sect in Syria, and to collect evidence confirming responsibility. Individuals and entities involved
8. We disavow all calls for chaos, unrest, and sedition, regardless of their source.
We believe that justice is not merely a legal requirement, but rather a moral imperative to restore dignity to humanity and ensure a future of peace and mutual respect. Therefore, we hope for immediate and decisive action.
Together, we will be a voice for the victims and contribute to building a more just and humane world for those who remain.
