Mesolithic Western Europeans (WHG), like Cheddar Man, were not "Black":

In racial terms, 'Black' means Sub-Saharan African, but WHG had European facial features and were as genetically distinct from Africans as modern Europeans are. Their Paleolithic European ancestors were also not African.

It is also impossible that WHG had black skin for two reasons:
1. Black skin is caused by gene variants (MFSD12) that are exclusive to Australo-Melanesians and Africans and not found in ancient or modern Eurasians.
2. Ancient Eurasians quickly evolved lighter skin immediately after leaving Africa, even before the European and East Asian populations had diverged.

The genetic model used to predict WHG as black-skinned (HIrisplex-S) also predicts light-skinned and tanned East Asians as black-skinned. In other populations, it predicts light skin as tanned, tanned skin as dark, and dark skin as black.

The model does not include MFSD12, even though these variants were discovered before it was created.

Conclusion: HOAX!

I only have a little autosomal Nordic DNA, but my Y haplogroup is Nordic I1. My Swedish wife has no British autosomal DNA but her maternal haplogroup is the Celtic J1 which was brought to Scandinavia with Celtic brides the Vikings stole.

Therefore my son who is half British and half Swedish has uniparental markers which would mislead one into thinking he had a Swedish father and a British mother and not the reverse!

Just one of the ways haplogroups can mislead.

The idea that because Christianity adopted aspects of Platonism that Platonism is soiled is ridiculous. Christianity adopted aspects of European culture, European religion, and adopted the European race. Do we trash it all?

Just been looking at Tom’s wonderful pictures here. The libation is an important part of our blots, as it is for many heathen circles.

But what is the libation? This is an offering of drink which is poured onto the earth as an honouring to the gods and goddesses. The OE word wîntîber meant ‘wine offering’, though in our hearths this would be mead or ale. Our libations are made after the symbel when the drinking horn has been passed around.

There are other types of offerings that were also once made, including the bærnelâc or burnt offering where offerings are made to the fire.

Members of my hearth assembled at a megalithic site on Dartmoor this weekend. The children were eager to pour libations and shout praises to the goddess Frigg who we honoured at a venerable old menhir.

Afterwards we all observed that a cist tomb filled with black water resembled a doorway to the realm of the dead. Down I go!

My view on Platonism among Heathens is simple. No one can claim that a heathen has to be a Platonist or that if allowed to continue, heathens would have adopted platonic philosophy just as every other religion in the West did. We can't know that. Therefore we cannot scorn those heathens who reject Platonism. Also, no one can claim Platonism is a heresy among Heathens as nothing like this is expressed anywhere by any heathen source. In fact what we know about Germanic heathens is that they were extremely flexible, allowing the incorporation of Lappish shamanism, and even Christianity and idols of Christ in temples (at least in some cases).

People on either side trying to establish an orthodox dogma which opposes the other are being dishonest.

First worship the Immortal Gods, as they are established and ordained by the Law.
Reverence the Oath, and next the Heroes, full of goodness and light.
Honour likewise the Terrestrial Daemons by rendering them the worship lawfully due to them.
Honour likewise your parents, and those most nearly related to you.
Of all the rest of mankind, make him your friend who distinguishes himself by his virtue.
Always give ear to his mild exhortations, and take example from his virtuous and useful actions.
Avoid as much as possible hating your friend for a slight fault.
Power is a near neighbour to necessity.
Know that all these things are just as what I have told you; and accustom yourself to overcome and vanquish these passions:
First gluttony, sloth, sensuality, and anger.
Do nothing evil, neither in the presence of others, nor privately;
But above all things respect yourself.

Golden Verses; 1–12
(Pythagoras, 6th century BCE)

«We're dealing with two main misconceptions. Firstly, seiðr is often confused with siðr – mostly among non-scholars. Though similar in spelling, the two terms have widely different content and etymologies: Seiðr is restricted to a specific magical practice, while siðr refers to abstract notions of “tradition, paradigm, custom”. In short, siðr is the closest thing the Old Norse tongue had to a word for religion, before Christianity appeared with the concept of trú (faith).»

I will add to these comments that the Old English noun blōt 'sacrifice' refers mainly to the spilling of the blood of a sacrificial victim, and since, for various reasons, most modern sacrifices are of alcoholic drinks rather than blood, which is a fitting substitute with mythic equivalents as I have demonstrated in my videos, the libation of mead or other alcohol in a ritual context is not merely part of a toasting ceremony like Symbel but can be the main sacrificial offering for many - with the mead becoming blood just as wine does for Catholics in their Mass.
Let us also keep in mind that the English word 'god' itself derives in all likelihood from PIE *ǵʰeu̯- "to pour, libate" surviving in modern Dutch 'Giet', meaning, 'to pour'

The pouring out of a sacred liquid is a primordial act which allows us to participate in the action of the gods.

This new range of garments has the dragon slaying hero Sigurd from DR-BR55 bracteate -sucking dragon blood from his thumb so he can, like Odin, perceive the speech of birds. The magical runes say SALUSALU - a curious repetition referring to a sacrifice. All garments can be seen here except for the premium hoodie with triskele arm prints which is here.

Perfect Yule gifts for heathens!

In 2015 I submitted a research proposal to Neil Price at Uppsala university that argued we should re-examine the boat grave phenomenon of England and Sweden in the wake of the Salme graves discovered in Estonia in 2008. It was rejected, but a few weeks later the Swedish research council agreed to fund a ten year program at Uppsala uni which included exactly what I had proposed. In this recent talk Price outlines some of the findings of the last 7 years. I really like their idea to refer, not to Vikings but to a "boat-grave culture" which is a sub set of the Germanic speaking world stretching from Sweden to England and lasting for 500 years incorporating Anglo-Saxon England and Vendel and Viking era Scandinavia. Truthfully these were basically one culture and there is no real "Viking age" as we term it

Wow just wow, did you remember to follow the global guidelines for academic genetic research cooked up with the help of Tom Booth, the man behind the dubiously complexioned Cheddar man and Whitehall woman reconstructions? He has also co-authored a paper about the need to disrupt modern British identification with ancient Britons in the wake of Brexit. Better follow his hecking guiderinos which say we need to disconnect modern identity from ancestry (if you are Western).

NEW BOOK: Poetic Edda

https://www.imperiumpress.org/shop/poetic-edda/

The Poetic Edda is our main source for the myths of the Norse gods and heroes, and the Bellows alliterative verse translation is one of the most faithful to the original.

The Imperium Press edition updates it according to modern scholarship, adding a foreword by historian Thomas Rowsell (Survive the Jive), dozens of beautiful illustrations, and facing Old Norse text. Each poem has been newly introduced by Tristan Powers, writing from the perspective of a living practitioner of the Norse religion, giving us deeper insight into the worldview and religious spirit that animates them.

This edition corrects the flaws and retains the strengths of the earlier translation. The result is the ultimate edition of the Poetic Edda both for serious students and for lovers of poetry.

Additional Tyr Bracteates

As an update to these reposts, we are including here additional artifacts which picture the God Tyr and the Fenris wolf.

The first 2 images are of the Hamburg bracteate (IK 71), found in North Germany.

The 3rd image is the famous Trollhättan bracteate (SHM 1164), from Sweden.

The final image is a bracteate from the Binham horde (IK 602,2), eastern English coast.

What is observed is a host of artifacts, dating back to the Migration era depicting a portion of myth not written down until almost 1000 years later. Further, the range of territory these objects were found suggests this was likely a pan-Germanic myth.

Someone emailed me asking about the meaning of the Germanic triquetra. I don't know the meaning of the symbol but I think Germanic people took the motif from Southern cultures, where it existed much earlier, and where it likely had a different meaning. Pictured examples:

1. Anglo-Saxon coin with deer
2. Norwegian Harald Hardada coin
3. detail from Funbo runestone
4. detail from Runestone G181
