Why is this debate over soda being framed as a consumer rights issue by “conservatives”?

I’m not okay with my tax paying dollars going towards items like this. Programs like SNAP are there to help Americans make ends meet when they need it. Options like soda act as indirect incentivizers vs. the stepping stone this program is meant to be. We are a country of doers, not enablers.
**Let me be clear, people can eat however and whenever they want but when it comes to having others supplement you, it’s a natural consequence for choices of lifestyle to temporarily change until back on one’s feet.
