The Israelis have launched their war in the middle of negotiations and murdered Iranian key negotiators in an attempt to nullify diplomacy. The Iranians were willing to make major concessions.

2. Before the war, Ukraine continued its efforts to join NATO, while NATO refused to formally rule out the possibility of Ukrainian membership. The Russians tried to this solve the issue diplomatically for over a year before launching a full scale invasion when the negotiations were dead. Neither West nor Ukraine were willing to make any concessions.
