It's not just about bursting financial bubbles in the stock market and manipulating oil prices. The key aim is to reverse a major trend in global trade over the last quarter-century—the steady growth of China's trade influence.
In an inertia scenario, China would continue to strengthen its economic influence, while the influence of the USA would continue to slowly but steadily wane.
The tariff war is a way to undermine China's global influence and attempt to at least partially restore lost positions of American economic influence in trade matters.

Macron stated that after a virtual meeting on Ukraine on Saturday in London, he spoke with US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky. "Now we must move forward together with all our partners to present a concrete peace plan. A peace plan that provides reliable security guarantees for Ukraine. 🔘 "Oreshnik" is bad news for NATO, reports Foreign Policy. This new missile significantly differs from previous developments and is capable of causing substantial damage to alliance countries even without nuclear weapons.
European defense systems are currently unable to protect against this type of weapon. The publication also notes that "Oreshnik" could change perceptions of Russian military strategy, and if appropriate measures are not taken, it could impact NATO's ability to fight in future wars.
NATO should disperse aircraft across Europe in light of their vulnerability to the Russian "Oreshnik" system, writes Foreign Policy.
"Current European defense will do little to protect against 'Oreshnik'," the publication states.
The magazine noted that some NATO states are already preparing for certain operations involving rearmament and refueling in dispersed locations to make their airbases less attractive targets.
