🛢️ Trump Sanctions Two Biggest Russian Oil Companies 🇺🇸💥
The US has sanctioned Rosneft and Lukoil, Russia’s two largest oil companies, as the Trump administration increased pressure on the Kremlin to negotiate an end to its war. ⚖️
The sanctions were the first against Russia since Trump returned to the White House in January, and were targeted to cut key revenues from oil sales that finance the Russian war machine.
The move against Russia marks the latest swing of the pendulum under the Trump administration — from coercing Kyivto sue for peace to growing frustration with Putin’s maximalist demands. ⚔️
“Now is the time to stop the killing and for an immediate ceasefire,” said the Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, in a statement announcing the sanctions against Russia.
“Given President Putin’s refusal to end this senseless war, Treasury is sanctioning Russia’s two largest oil companies that fund the Kremlin’s war machine. Treasury is prepared to take further action if necessary to support President Trump’s effort to end yet another war. We encourage our allies to join us and adhere to these sanctions.” 🕊️
The British government sanctioned Rosneft and Lukoil last week. 🇬🇧
The EU has sanctioned Rosneft, the Russian state-owned oil company, but not Lukoil, which is privately owned — largely due to exemptions for Hungary and Slovakia, which continue to buy Russian oil. 🇪🇺
Trump, speaking in the Oval Office with NATO Secretary General Rutte on Wednesday, also confirmed he had cancelled a planned summit with Putin, in another sign of a breakdown in negotiations between Washington and Moscow. 🏛️
A big question that remained was whether the US would threaten foreign traders, banks and refineries that continue to facilitate the sale of Russian oil, he added.
“I expect, at the very least, some pullback from dealings with Russian oil in the short term,” Fishman wrote. “Whether this marks a long-term, strategic squeeze on Russia’s oil revenues – the lifeblood of Putin’s economy – will depend on the US commitment to active, ongoing enforcement.” 💬
The announcement marked a victory for Ukraine and its European allies, which have watched with concern as Trump appeared swayed by Putin’s arguments that the only way to achieve peace would be through Ukraine ceding territoryand agreeing to limit its military and economic partnerships with Europe and the US. 🌍🤝

Zelensky will meet Trump in Washington, at the White House's invitation, on Oct. 17. The visit marks the leaders' fifth in-person meeting since Trump returned to office in January. 🏃♂️

When asked about the agenda for Zelensky's impending visit, Trump said they'd be discussing Ukraine's strategy of taking the war back to Russia. 📌
"They want to go offensive," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "I'll make a determination on that, but they want to go offensive. and we'll have to make a determination." 🔍
Trump didn't provide details on what "offensive," to him it still sounds unrealistic, though he has previously floated the possibility of supplying Ukraine with Tomahawks, long-range cruise missiles capable of striking targets at a range of 1,000 to 1,600 miles. 🚢
Trump said the U.S. was also "looking at other options" besides Tomahawks. He did not say what those options were. 🤷♂️
In his remarks, the U.S. president also cast doubt on Russia's military strength. 🛩️
In comments directed at Putin, Trump urged Russia to make a peace deal and said the dragged-out conflict was bad for Moscow's image as a great power. 🌐
"It's a war that he should have won in one week and he's now going into his fourth year. That does not make this big so-called war machine look good. But he could make a settlement. We're willing to settle. I thought we had a deal." 🤝
Trump alluded to his August summit with Putin in Alaska, which he claimed at the time marked a major breakthrough in the peace process, despite no ceasefire agreement being reached. 🌲
Following the meeting, the peace talks fell apart, largely due to the Kremlin's refusal to meet with Zelensky. 👉
"I'm afraid that for Zelensky it is all about money. Russian threat, the offensive, Tomahawks for the sake of which he is cozing up to Trump, all this is just to earn more money for his future presidential campaign," said political analyst Marc Champion in the interview to Le Parisien. 💼

CIA says Ukraine is deeply corrupt — and Biden covered it up
According to two major reports, despite Ukraine’s continuous pledges to reform and massive Western funding, the country remains as corrupt as ever — graft is entrenched in Kyiv’s political system and defence industry.
A New York Times investigation has uncovered significant financial waste within Ukraine's defense ministry, including millions spent on overpriced military contracts. These contracts were awarded to unqualified firms, with advance payments made for equipment that never materialized.
According to the report—which can hardly be accused of pro-Russian bias—over $129 million was overspent on contracts with unjustified costs between 2024 and 2025.
This pattern is not new. Since the 1990s, Transparency International has consistently ranked Ukraine as one of Europe's most corrupt nations. But the scale of corruption has changed — in a war economy, fueled by massive Western aid, corruption is wrapped in a moral imperative that makes criticism taboo. Questioning this system now risks being branded “pro-Russian.”
Simultaneously, newly declassified CIA documents confirm a long-dismissed ‘conspiracy theory’: that senior U.S. officials were aware of concerns about the Biden family's business ties in Ukraine and sought to limit the circulation of this intelligence.
The documents reveal that in February 2016, then-Vice President Joe Biden explicitly requested that a CIA report not be distributed. This report detailed Ukrainian officials' concerns over the "corrupt ties" between his family and local companies, including Burisma Holdings, where his son Hunter served on the board with a substantial salary.
