🇺🇸 - Jerome Powell is reportedly considering resigning his Chairmanship at the Federal Reserve.
This directly follows a letter sent by the White House yesterday which accused him of exorbitantly using funds for the Fed building’s renovation for luxury developments, and subsequently breaking the law by misreporting the facts of that renovation to Congress.
It also comes after months of criticism by President Trump against Powell’s reluctance to lower rates while inflation subsides.

🇸🇳❌🇺🇳🇳🇱 UN, Netherlands cancel LGBTQ event in Senegal after government warning
The U.N. and the Dutch foreign ministry said on Friday they had cancelled an LGBTQ-themed event in Senegal after the West African nation warned of repercussions for organisers and voiced opposition to all "promotion of the LGBTQI phenomenon".
Anti-gay laws are in place in many conservative West African countries, including Senegal, where anyone who commits an "act against nature" with someone of the same sex can be punished by up to five years in prison.
In a statement published on X, Senegal's foreign ministry on Friday said it had been informed of a film screening to be hosted by the U.N. and the Dutch embassy that would have been followed by "discussions on LGBTI issues".
The statement did not specify when the event was scheduled to occur.
"Accordingly, the government reserves the right to take any appropriate action against any organisers of such activities, and even against participants, whatever their origins, status or rank," the foreign ministry statement said.

🇭🇷 On Saturday, July 5, 2025, Croatian singer Marko Perković, known as Thompson, held a historic concert at Zagreb’s Hippodrome that shattered world records.
The event drew a staggering crowd of approximately 504,000 people, making it the largest paid concert attendance in history—surpassing the previous record held by Vasco Rossi in Modena, Italy (225,000).
One in seven Croatians attended the concert.
Organizers reported 450,000 tickets sold, and the entire production was unprecedented in scale, featuring a massive 150-meter-wide and 33-meter-high stage, with equipment flown in from Dubai. Thompson performed a three-hour set starting at 9 PM, accompanied by extensive lighting and visual effects.
To manage the massive turnout, more than 14,000 personnel were deployed, including police, firefighters, medical teams, Red Cross volunteers, and Civil Protection staff. Security was tight, with over 6,500 police officers, snipers, helicopter patrols and field hospitals.
The concert was condemned by Western medias because of Thompson's Croat nationalist ideology and his service in the Yugoslav Wars fighting for the independence of Croatia.

🇺🇸 - President Trump announces that he will oppose any Republican that does not vote for his rescissions bill, which would defund billions from NPR, PBS and various USAID-administered overseas humanitarian projects.
Senate holdouts include Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Thom Tillis (R-NC), who have all expressed concern over funding to public media and global health programs being rescinded through this measure.
Although some were citing
impacts to soft power, the reluctance seems to be over PEPFAR, a global HIV program that has historically had Republican support and was signed into existence under President Bush.
The Trump Administration argues that the program’s funding has been wastefully spent, citing millions of U.S. dollars traced to foreign prostitution rings, LGBT support programs, adult male circumcision initiatives, and leftist non-governmental organizations.
The Senate has until July 18th to approve the bill, but it remains held up in committee.

🇮🇹🤝🇪🇺 Italian PM, Giorgia Meloni's Fratteli d'Italia (FdI) party will be voting "no" in the motion of no-confidence which seeks to topple Ursula von der Leyen's Commission!
Although the motion of no-confidence was started by the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), members of the European Conservatives & Reformists group (ECR) of which FdI is a founding member of, the FdI will not be joining AUR in seeking to topple the 2nd von der Leyen Commission.
The vice-president of the ECR and senior member of the FdI, Nicola Procaccini even attacked AUR for seeking to topple Ursula von der Leyen stating: "Unfortunately, someone likes to lose both at home and here. I do not,” throwback to how AUR lost the Romanian presidential elections a few months ago.
Procaccini mentioned that he wanted to "focus on building majorities" revealing his and by extension, Giorgia Meloni's wish for the ECR to one day ally with the European People's Party (EPP) and form a coalition and rule the EU this way hence why the FdI will be voting to protect Ursula von der Leyen.
This decision reportedly upset other members of the ECR especially the Polish at Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) who supported AUR's initiative.
According to a source, up to 50 MEPs of ECR's 79 members could end up backing the motion of censure, which would mean a strong setback for Procaccini’s leadership.

🇬🇷 Greece suspends asylum applications for migrants from North Africa
Sea arrivals from northeastern Libya of migrants trying to cross to Europe through Greece's southern islands of Crete and Gavdos have surged to more than 7,300 this year, according to estimates by the Greek government and aid agencies.
That compares with around 5,000 in the whole of 2004.
"With legislation that will be submitted to the parliament tomorrow, Greece will suspend the examination of asylum applications, initially for three months, for those arriving in Greece from North Africa by sea," Mitsotakis told parliament.
The spike in arrivals has put pressure on the two islands, which lack organised migration reception camps and have struggled to find temporary housing facilities.
The migrants mainly come from the Middle East and North Africa, including nationals from Sudan, Egypt and Bangladesh.
Greece rescued about 520 migrants off Gavdos early on Wednesday and was taking them to the mainland, the Greek coastguard said.

🇨🇳🤝🇮🇷 Iran receives Chinese surface-to-air missile batteries after Israel ceasefire deal
The Islamic Republic is trading oil for Chinese air defence missiles as it looks to rebuild capabilities destroyed by Israel, sources say
Iran has taken possession of Chinese surface-to-air missile batteries as Tehran rapidly moves to rebuild defensives destroyed by Israel during their recent 12-day conflict, sources have told Middle East Eye.
The deliveries of Chinese surface-to-air missile batteries occurred after a de-facto truce was struck between Iran and Israel on 24 June, an Arab official familiar with the intelligence told MEE.
Another Arab official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive intelligence, said that the US's Arab allies were aware of Tehran's efforts to "back up and reinforce" its air defences and that the White House had been informed of Iran's progress.
The officials did not say how many surface-to-air missiles, or SAMs, Iran had received from China since the end of the fighting. However, one of the Arab officials said that Iran was paying for the SAMs with oil shipments.

🇲🇽 33 Tons Of Gold, Silver Concentrate Hijacked In Mexico
Armed thieves in Mexico hijacked a truck transporting 33 tons of gold and silver concentrate belonging to the Mexican mining firm Grupo Minero Bacis, local media reported. The precious metals heist underscores a surge in highway robberies across the third-world cartel-plagued country—just south of the U.S. southern border—amid rising gold and silver prices driven by global macroeconomic uncertainty.
El Universal said the assailants blocked the tractor-trailer on a stretch of highway near Guadalajara and assaulted the driver and security, and held them hostage for nearly 1.5 hours.
"A group of organized criminals aboard two vehicles robbed a truck belonging to Fletes Durango SA de CV, which was loaded with at least 33 tons of gold and silver concentrate belonging to Grupo Minero Bacis SA de CV, bound for the port of Manzanillo," Grupo Minero wrote in a report.
