Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.
Madigan, 83, was convicted earlier this year of fraud, conspiracy, and bribery charges.
He was also fined $2.5 million and will be placed under supervised release for three years after serving his sentence.
Due to federal sentencing rules requiring at least 85 percent of the term to be served, he is likely not eligible for release until he is 90.

To most of us, the term "regime change" carries a negative connotation.
Dislike for the idea is understandable, given the fact that the CIA & State Department have instituted dozens of regime changes over the last 80 years in an effort to create endless wars.
However, there is a positive aspect to regime change, when it is done the right way and for the right purpose.
There's no reason to believe the current CIA & State Department are working to remove the clerical regime in Iran and replace it with a government that can be manipulated by the U.S.
President Trump seems content to let the Iranian people decide for themselves the kind of government they will have. A change of leadership (regime) is now only a matter time given the fact that Israel seems determined to exterminate the current Iranian regime.
Robert “RJ” May, 38, a member of the House of Representatives in the Palmetto State, was arrested at his Lexington County home Wednesday on a 10-count indictment charging him with distributing child sex abuse material, court documents showed.
Lawyers for May suggested at his arraignment that someone else could have been using his WiFi password to procure and share the twisted images.
Homeland Security agents searched May’s house in August 2024 and seized nearly three dozen electronic devices from his home, including a laptop, a tablet, four cell phones, four hard drives, and 19 thumbdrives, The State reported.
On one of those seized devices, May allegedly kept several videos of himself on trips to Colombia engaging in sex with three women who appeared to be underage and were paid, a DHS official testified.
Prosecutors asked that May not be given bail because his two children are the same age as those who were exploited in the illicit material.

BREAKING🚨: Two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses were shot by someone impersonating a police officer, sources confirmed to FOX 9.
Sen. John Hoffman and Rep. Melissa Hortman, as well as their spouses, were shot in the overnight shootings in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, sources told FOX 9's Karen Scullin.
Their conditions are not known as of this writing.
Hortman, a Democrat from Brooklyn Park, represents District 34B. Hoffman, a Democrat from Champlin, represents Senate District 34.
The shelter-in-place alert sent at 5:30 a.m. by Brooklyn Park Police Department is for the 3-mile radius around the Edinburgh Golf Course.
Police say they are looking for a suspect in multiple targeted shootings. The suspect is armed and dangerous. The suspect is a white man with brown hair wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants, and he may be impersonating law enforcement.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared to acknowledge that the Pentagon has developed plans to take over Greenland and Panama by force if necessary but refused to answer repeated questions at a hotly combative congressional hearing Thursday about his use of Signal chats to discuss military operations.
Democratic members of the House Armed Services Committee repeatedly got into heated exchanges with Hegseth, with some of the toughest lines of questioning coming from military veterans as many demanded yes or no answers and he tried to avoid direct responses about his actions as Pentagon chief.
