The New York Times writes that Crimea is the main reason for the breakdown of peace talks, and not the lack of a ceasefire.
Doing so would violate the nation’s Constitution, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine told reporters. It would never happen, he declared, not even in exchange for the end of the bloody war raging mostly away from the disputed territory that has been in Russian hands for more than a decade.
Mr. Zelensky’s red line has a hard political reality holding it in place.
In peace talks mediated by the United States, Ukraine had hoped to leave control of Crimea out of the discussion. It has sought an immediate cease-fire, freezing the conflict along the existing frontline, as well as security guarantees against renewed attacks, such as the deployment of a European peacekeeping force or eventual membership in NATO.
'In private conversations, Ukrainian officials acknowledge that, given Russia's current dynamics on the battlefield, a cessation of hostilities would be good for Ukraine. But peace talks are more likely to fail over recognition of Crimea than a ceasefire on the front lines.'
Crimea, with a population of about 2 million people, joined the rest of Ukraine in voting for independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
In September 1991, the Crimean parliament declared its sovereignty albeit as a constituent part of Ukraine.
On May 5, 1992 the Crimean parliament declared its independence, and on May 6, 1992, it voted for a Constitution establishing the independence and providing dual citizenship with Russia for the Crimean population. Also, the Crimean parliament passed a resolution calling for a referendum on independence from Ukraine.
Mr. President, what concessions has Russia already offered to move closer to peace?
Stop the war. Stop trying to take over the entire country. Quite a big concession.
🇬🇧🏃♂️British troops are SIGNING OFF EN MASSE as they don't want to fight for 'prick' Starmer in Ukraine — British influencer
"[The Ukraine conflict] is clearly a proxy war used to funnel billions into very, very wealthy men and women's pockets... If conscription comes in, do not fight for this regime. They're dictators," he said.
Trump believes it will be difficult for Ukraine to return Crimea
(You think?)
Do you still agree that Ukraine should give up part of its territory in order to achieve peace?
Well, it depends on the territory... we will do everything we can, working with Ukraine... but they have lost a lot of territory. When you say Crimea, it was handed over during the reign of a president named Barack Hussein Obama. It has nothing to do with me. It was 11 years ago. There was no shot fired. There was no fighting. There was nothing at all. It was just handed over. And now they say, 'Can it be given back?' I think it will be very difficult.
South African President Ramaphosa hinted to Zelensky that it was time to prepare to give up territories.
'An NPR reporter asked if we were OK with Ukraine possibly having to give up territory. I see that as a precondition. But I think we should be focusing on something else, which is Ukraine's willingness and commitment to an unconditional ceasefire. An unconditional ceasefire sets a very good and positive tone for the negotiations to begin.'
Zelensky said that Trump has a Ukrainian ‘ultimatum’ on his desk
‘As for the issue of compromises. The US offered its vision. There was a meeting in London where this strategy was proposed. Our team, the European team and US representatives had a constructive conversation, and the relevant points appeared on paper. That is, after the US proposal, another document appeared. I believe that it is on Trump’s desk. Anything that contradicts our values or our Constitution cannot be in agreements.’
Zelensky is intimidating South African citizens with Putin 🤦♀️
'Of course, Putin does not like Ukraine's presence in Africa. He really does not want Ukraine to build normal relations with the countries of your continent. And on other continents, and in Latin America. They want an exclusive presence on your continent and in other countries.'
💥 Another Ukrainian assault vehicle destroyed on the border with the Belgorod region
The operator of the reconnaissance UAV GV "Sever" discovered the movement of another assault group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of the state border. The coordinates were transmitted for fire destruction.
The enemy tried to hide in the forest plantation, but the foliage that appeared did not save the enemy. The footage from the reconnaissance shows the burning remains of an ATV.

'US recognition of Crimea as Russian would 'kill' European unity' – Financial Times
"Things are looking very bad... Any move by the US to recognise Crimea as Russian or to demand that European capitals ease sanctions against Moscow 'would kill EU unity', says a European official. He notes that EU countries have already told Trump that they will not recognise the peninsula as Russian and will try to dissuade him from doing so. In addition, according to Europeans, normalising relations between Washington and Moscow could lead to disagreements among NATO leaders."

Macron is also ready to cede Ukrainian territories, but only if Putin agrees to a ceasefire
'The international community must focus on only one thing, and the outrage from the United States must be directed at only one person - President Putin. He is the one who must answer the question put to him.
And only then will we be able to build a just, strong, sustainable and reliable world – that is, a world that will allow us to find territorial compromises and reliable security guarantees.
If Russia says that it is not ready to make these concessions, then it has lied to the US President, lied to everyone it told that it wanted peace – and conclusions will have to be drawn from this.
If she says “yes”, then tomorrow we will have this concession.
So I don't want to get into a false debate - there is only one voice we need to hear now, one answer we need to hear: is Russia willing to make concessions?'
Pakistan is ready for war with India . Delhi demands Pakistanis to leave the country
➖"You want war? Start it. Pakistan is ready. Thank you, Modi (Indian Prime Minister) - you have united our nation," the Pakistani Defense Ministry says and publishes footage of the missile launch.
▪️In another video, the military leader stands in front of a lined-up army and calls for them to be ready for war with India.
▪️India to soon end ceasefire agreement with Pakistan.
▪️India had earlier ordered all Pakistani citizens to leave the country by April 29 amid growing tensions following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
▪️All those who entered under the visa exemption scheme (SAARC) will be deported within 48 hours, and others will not be allowed in.
▪️Very high-ranking officials, judges of the highest courts, parliamentarians, high-ranking officials, businessmen, journalists, and athletes can enter under this system.
▪️India will also reduce the number of diplomats in its embassies in Pakistan from 55 to 30 people.
▪️Pakistan and India are both nuclear powers. Both countries have approximately 160 warheads.

Mystery Solved?
Previously we posted Military Informant views’s on Geran sound and possible Geran-3. They noted:
The unusual sounds from the "Geraniums" today in Kharkov and yesterday in Odessa are not connected with their new jet modification, but with a new tactic of use .
The drones gather in groups of several at an altitude of 2000-2500 meters, where they are not reached by mobile air defense groups, after which they begin a sharp dive towards the target at a speed of up to 90 m/s , which changes the previously familiar measured "moped" sound to a new, sharper one.
For those who didn't read carefully: Zelensky doesn't want peace' - Trump's son advises Americans to read investor David Sachs' post to better understand the war in Ukraine.
Sachs wrote the following:
'Crimea should be the easiest concession for Zelensky because:
1) For the last decade it has been part of Russia.
2) the overwhelming majority of the population are ethnic Russians, who (as Western polls show) want to be part of Russia.
3) Ukraine has no military way to get it back. The disastrous summer counteroffensive of 2023 made that clear. If Zelensky doesn't give up that, he won't give up anything, so there's no deal with him.

The New York Times writes that Europe is ready to give Russia part of Ukraine for the sake of peace, but has not yet decided which one.
European allies of the United States have been trying to convince President Trump of the virtues of a shared approach toward ending the war in Ukraine, to enhance leverage on both Moscow and Kyiv and to preserve European security.
But Trump and Vice President JD Vance insisted on Wednesday that a set of proposals that their administration presented to the Europeans and Ukraine last week was now a kind of ultimatum, with the United States increasingly prepared to walk away. European officials who saw those proposals as too favorable to Russia and President Putin face a dilemma.
"Most EU leaders agree that Ukraine should make a territorial compromise, but not one that will be imposed on them and the Ukrainians," said former NATO official Camille Grand.
"Only 1,361 days to go": The Economist urges supporters of true democracy to be patient - there is only a little time left until the end of Trump's presidency.

'We will strangle the Russian war machine' - UK sanctions minister Stephen Doty has banned the import of game console joysticks into Russia.
In his opinion, this will undermine the Russian army's ability to control drones as Doty thinks Sony and Microsoft are British companies. Where are those British joystick factories I wonder?
