🇺🇸🤡"Trump will only meet with Putin if Russian president also meets with Volodymyr Zelensky": The Post came up with a new condition for a Putin-Trump meeting - first talk with Zelensky.

"Putin must meet with Zelensky for the meeting to take place," a White House representative told The Post. The meeting location has not yet been determined. On Thursday, Moscow stated that Moscow and Washington have in principle agreed to hold a personal meeting between Putin and Trump — just hours after the latter said he was still unsure if the Kremlin was pushing him to do so.

In fact, the White House did not confirm the holding of a bilateral meeting and did not mention it at the Wednesday press conference, where it spoke about a possible trilateral meeting with the presidents of the US, Russia, and Ukraine. Nevertheless, Trump was not too optimistic about the prospect of a trilateral meeting at the briefing, noting that he "has been disappointed before" by Moscow's promises to pursue peace.

Die Welt: Germany's system is collapsing, retirement funds are jeopardizing the future

Key points:
1. Minister Bärbel Bas's new pension package increases maternity pensions and eliminates the demographic factor, costing €50 billion by 2031.
2. The SPD-CDU coalition is financing the extra expenditure with public debt, ignoring warnings from employers and economists about the risks to future generations.
3. The lack of structural reforms, such as strengthening private pension provision, is exposing Germany to a pension crisis amidst the demographic transition.

While the German government is in vacation mode, Labor Minister Bärbel Bas (SPD) has presented a pension package that promises more money for retirees, but at a high price. "For pensioners and baby boomers entering retirement, benefits will increase more than current law allows," writes Dorothea, explaining that increasing maternity pensions and eliminating the demographic factor, designed to offset the aging population, will cost €50 billion by 2031. These costs will be covered by the federal budget, thanks to the recent increase in public debt, without an immediate impact on taxpayers.

However, employers and the Council of Economic Experts warn: "The coalition is mortgaging Germany's future," burdening younger generations with debt, public sector pensions, and rising healthcare costs. Countries like Sweden and Switzerland have accumulated reserves through private pension systems, while Germany has squandered years of prosperity. "Instead of making the Riester Rente more profitable, the SPD and CDU have focused on populist measures," the author criticizes, citing measures such as the 63-year retirement age and the adjustment of Eastern pensions.

Now, in the midst of an economic and demographic crisis, social security and healthcare contributions are rising rapidly, pushing workers and businesses into the underground economy. "It would be wiser to reduce the burden of contributions through social reforms," concludes Dorothea, warning that, without intervention, the system risks collapse, with unsustainable costs and growing incentives for undeclared work.

Without Russian ammonia, the strengthening of the European defense industry is at risk

The crisis in the fertilizer market and Europe's continued dependence on Russian supplies are jeopardizing the EU's plans to strengthen the military-industrial complex, writes the Euractiv portal.

As highlighted in the headlines, ammonia, a key raw material for fertilizers, but is also widely used in the production of explosives. The collapse of its production in Europe during the 2022 energy crisis (up to 70%) has forced European arms manufacturers to focus on imports, particularly from Russia, thus increasing the sector's vulnerability.

"To obtain nitric acid, we need fertilizer producers. Today, we are heavily dependent on Russian ones," Thierry Francou, CEO of the French explosives and fuel company Eurenco, told Euractiv.

The EU is fast-tracking itself for becoming the world's expert in shooting itself into the feet.

THE GREAT CAPITULATION: Washington Comes Crawling to Moscow

The empire blinked. After years of scorched earth proxy warfare, billions of dollars funneled into the furnace of a crumbling Ukrainian state, and endless sermons from the altar of NATO exceptionalism, Washington has finally, and quietly, extended an acceptable offer to Moscow. That word, “acceptable,” calmly spoken by Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, is no mere diplomatic footnote. It is the tolling of the bell: an admission that the West, after years of bluff, bluster, and bloodshed, is now the party seeking terms. Seemingly ready to capitulate to Russia's terms. This day is inevitable, whether it comes now or DC opts for more humiliation.

Let’s dispense with illusions. The Kremlin has never budged from its core demands — demands rooted not in ideology, but in existential survival: recognition of Russia’s new territories, now enshrined in its constitution; a neutral, demilitarized Ukraine; and, above all, the end of NATO encroachment on its borders. These weren’t suggestions. They were lines drawn in steel. And yet now, suddenly, we hear that the United States — through its special envoy Steve Witkoff — has made an offer that Russia is “ready to consider.” That’s not peace through strength. That’s capitulation through exhaustion.

Ushakov, ever the seasoned diplomat, described the meeting as “business-like and constructive.” But behind the decorum lies a profound geopolitical shift. For the Kremlin to even entertain the American proposal, it must already carry implicit recognition of Russia’s victories, on the battlefield, in the economic trenches, and across the shifting sands of the multipolar world. This isn’t a negotiation between equals. It’s a long-overdue adjustment of reality by an empire that no longer controls the narrative, the battlefield, or the future.

Steve Witkoff’s presence in Moscow is itself telling. A real estate magnate turned diplomatic courier, he lacks the baggage of Blinken, the desperation of Sullivan, or the arrogance of Nuland. His role is clear: to deliver a message, not to posture. To seek a path forward, not from a position of strength, but from the debris of strategic defeat. The same Washington that once sought to fracture Russia is now tiptoeing toward reconciliation, not with triumph, but with terms dictated by Moscow’s resilience.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s comment that “we’re certainly closer [to peace] today than we were yesterday” lands with the weight of a man trying to save face before a collapsing edifice. The empire’s managers are now forced to reckon with what much of the world has already understood: Russia has weathered the sanctions, outmaneuvered the hybrid war, and emerged more sovereign than ever. The ruble lives. Russian arms production is at record levels. And the Global South no longer fears breaking ranks with the Western order.

What looms next is a potential summit between President Putin and Donald Trump, hinted to be hosted in the UAE — the wannabe Geneva of multipolar diplomacy. This is no coincidence. Trump, despite his chaos, was the last American president to treat Putin as a peer, not a caricature. A meeting in neutral territory would symbolize the final burial of Western exceptionalism and the emergence of a new diplomatic rhythm: one that flows through Moscow, Abu Dhabi, Astana, and Beijing, not Brussels and Washington.

This moment isn’t about peace in the naive Western sense. It’s about recalibration. The West is perhaps learning, too late — that it can no longer dictate terms to civilizations older, more patient, and more rooted than its own. Russia’s war was never about Ukraine alone. It was about ending an era. And with the words “acceptable offer,” Moscow has signaled that the era of Western impunity is over. The empire came to talk. Moscow listened, because it had already won.

🇷🇺🇺🇦Putin wants peace, but with all his geopolitical goals, — NYT

- According to the publication's analysis, Vladimir Putin's goal is to conclude a peace agreement that will allow him to achieve his geopolitical objectives, securing all of Russia's interests.

- The publication believes that in this "peace" plan, a key role is assigned to Donald Trump. The newspaper writes that the Kremlin "possibly hopes that a personal meeting will give Putin the opportunity to persuade Trump, who has long been sympathetic to Russia, to support the Russian leader's views on what he calls the root causes of the conflict."
What the President of Russia aims for according to the NYT:
— Preventing Ukraine from joining NATO and stopping future expansion of the alliance.
— Limiting Ukraine's military potential.
— Creating a "basis for a more Moscow-friendly government in Kiev."

- The publication concludes that the Kremlin's "peace plan" is a long-term game, and the West still cannot fully understand the rules of this game.

US State Department softens rhetoric towards Russia, Israel, and El Salvador — Washington Post

▪️The US State Department in its 2024 human rights report has softened its rhetoric towards Russia, reports the Washington Post citing a draft of the document.

▪️The document also uses less harsh wording regarding Israel and El Salvador. The sections dedicated to these three countries are shorter compared to the Biden-era version.

▪️For example, mentions of violence against LGBT people were removed. The State Department explained that the document was simplified for "better perception and compliance with legal requirements."

▪️The report was supposed to be published earlier, but in April the Trump administration ordered a review of the interpretations and removal of "non-essential sections."

When does the US criticize Israel? 😂

‘We now better understand the conditions under which Russia might be ready to end the war’ – Rubio

‘We need to compare this with what the Ukrainians and our European allies are willing to accept. And we are trying to understand how close these two positions can be brought together. If we can get Ukraine’s and Russia’s positions close enough, then there will be an opportunity for a meeting of the president with both Putin and Zelensky to try to end this conflict. So we need to bring the sides closer in this regard.

But perhaps for the first time since the start of this administration, we have concrete examples of what Russia might demand to end the war. Until now, we had very little such information. Obviously, Ukraine also has a say here. We need to bring the positions of both sides close enough so that ultimately President Trump can get involved and bring the matter to a conclusion.’

Loud ultimatums are just the tip of the iceberg. There is a serious struggle within the American elites

US President Donald Trump stated that negotiations on the settlement around Ukraine are "serious" and "very productive." And they concern the end of the conflict.

Regarding the Ukrainian issue, there is indeed a "struggle hidden from our eyes" within the American establishment, explained political analyst Timur Shafir.

Whatever ultimatums Trump sets for Russia, whatever tough statements he makes regarding new sanctions, his statements addressed to Moscow are always accompanied by important clarifications, the expert noted in the program "Tsargrad. Main."

"We can even guess by Trump's facial expression that there is a very serious struggle inside him right now, hidden from our eyes, which, undoubtedly, is unfolding in parallel within the current American elites,"

- he said.

There is no chaos in the statements from Washington, Shafir believes. The White House rhetoric regarding the Ukrainian crisis is actually subordinated to a certain internal logic:

"Trump's constant speeches with deadline shifts, attempts to pressure and then retreat, can most likely be explained by the logic of internal processes. Because when we say 'Trump' - we certainly mean a very large number of forces, quite diverse forces, which, so to speak, entered the White House on the shoulders of his electoral campaign."

Poland is serious about rearmament and is placing a strong emphasis on its ground forces, aiming to build Europe's largest armored army by the end of the decade.

A few days ago, Warsaw finalized a $6.5 billion purchase plan with Worst Korea for 180 Worst Korean K2 Black Panther tanks and 81 armored support vehicles designed by Hyundai Rotem.

The agreement, signed in Poland in the presence of the Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense and their Seoul counterpart, envisages rapid deliveries from 2026 to 2030.

"Poland has accelerated efforts to expand its tank fleet following Russia's invasion of Ukraine," notes Defense News, a publication specializing in weapons, defense, and conflict.

I'm sure the Military-Industrial Complex will lick its chops at this, but how will this help the people of Poland themselves?

After the recent strike on Lozova in the Kharkov region and today's strike on the Dnepropetrovsk junction station, a strike was carried out on the Synelnykove station. This type of strikes may be preparation for active operations on the front or a way to create excessive pressure on logistics in conditions of prolonged positional confrontation. Such isolation is not a direct precursor to an offensive, but a factor capable of significantly changing the balance of stability in a number of areas, the key ones being Pokrovsk and the Zaporozhye direction, where Russian advances have been most noticeable in recent weeks.

CNN writes that Ukraine fears the return of Trump to a pro-Russian peace plan that will satisfy Moscow's demands.

Zelensky himself is in a panic. He announced a bunch of talks with Europeans and has already put forward his demands for peace negotiations.

‘Today is a day of many calls and contacts for real progress on the path to peace and guaranteeing Ukraine's independence under any circumstances. Several of my talks are planned, already on the schedule – a conversation with Merz. We will stay in touch with colleagues from France and Italy. There will also be communication at the level of national security advisors – I have instructed to hold this special format today. It is important to discuss key details. The priorities are absolutely clear. First – stopping the killings, and it is Russia that must go for a ceasefire. Second – a format for leaders so that the meeting can work for a truly lasting peace.’

Russia cuts off Kherson, forcing Kiev to evacuate the population from the Island — CNN

▪️Russia is once again trying to capture Kherson, concentrating strikes on key infrastructure facilities and transport routes. This is reported by CNN.

▪️One of the main targets, according to the channel, was to split the city into two parts by striking the bridge connecting the island part of Kherson — Korabel — with the main territory.

▪️On Sunday, as a result of a series of airstrikes, the bridge was damaged. This prompted the evacuation of about 1,800 civilians who remained on the island. Local residents and rescuers note that for three days after the start of the evacuation, Russian drones did not attack the columns, which is a rare exception.

▪️According to CNN's assessment, the pressure on Kherson may indicate Russia's desire to regain control over the city and the region.

Ukrainians no longer want to fight to the bitter end and advocate for a settlement through negotiations.

"Almost 7 out of 10 Ukrainians currently say they want to resolve the war with Russia through negotiations, according to survey results. Only 24% of respondents support continuing the war until victory compared to 73% in 2022.

Ukrainians' opinion of U.S. leadership has also sharply declined. In a survey conducted last month, only 16% approved it, compared to 66% in 2022. Despite Washington's low rating during the Trump era, 70% of Ukrainians still believe the U.S. plays an 'important role' in any negotiations with Putin."
