Japan as America’s best friend in Asia, hoping it could secure zero tariffs before being made to feel grateful it was only hit with a 15% levy. The glint of gaslight was in Lutnick’s eye when he described this unprecedented handicapping of free trade as “tremendously beneficial to Japan”.
But the real crux of the deal was Japan’s $550bn investment commitment to “advance economic and security interests in the US”. Japan has agreed to disburse this by January 19 2029 — notionally the final day of Trump’s presidency. The import of the deal is immense, but the publicly available information on key elements is sparse.
Such details as there are have been set out in a seven-page, grammatically faltering memorandum of understanding between the US and Japan — a document seen by the Financial Times but which US government officials, astonishingly, say is only available to a handful of people in both the state and commerce departments. Japan requested something in writing, and this is what the small cabal around Lutnick appears to have come up with.
The MOU sets out an arrangement which, on one reading, reeks of coercion: a sovereign nation forced to funnel private and public-sector investment to a much richer one under a structure unashamedly directed by the US president.
Once Japan recoups its investment, it then reaps only 10% of the cash flows from the project, to America’s 90%. Yes, Japan has nominal input via a consultative committee into which projects are chosen, but there are no Japanese on the more powerful investment committee and it’s Trump who makes the ultimate call. Yes, Japan can elect not to fund an investment, but if it does so the US may impose new tariffs on Japan “at the rate determined by the President”.
A gloating Lutnick, appearing separately on CNBC, denied Japan even the right to make that case at home. Japan, he said, had sought to “buy down” its tariff rate with a deal that he described as “off the rails” and the most fun he had working for this president. Trump, he said, had “complete discretion” over Japan’s investments and would decide where and how he wanted Japanese capital spent in America.
But the precise contents are arguably less momentous than the nature of the document itself. The point is that its one-sidedness, continued unpublished life in the shadows and the widely variable interpretations this allows represent a miserable charter of what it means to be friends with the US in 2025.

Shmyhal said that the catching of people by TCC employees is stable, with a tendency to increase.
There are reports that about 650,000 men of conscription age fled Ukraine, and Zelensky resisted Western pressure to lower the conscription age from 25 to 18, which would have added 800,000 potential recruits. But last year he lowered the mobilization age from 27 to 25, and that was also extremely unpopular. You have a mobilization problem.
— Absolutely not. The level of mobilization in Ukraine over the past 12 months is absolutely stable, with a tendency to increase, and we are mobilizing all the necessary personnel to cover all our losses and form small reserves.

🇺🇦 🤷♂ No money: Kiev cut payments to families of the fallen and stretched payments over 6.5 years
- The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced that from September 1, compensation for those killed at the front will be paid over a longer period: instead of 40 months, now 80.
- The total amount remains the same — 15 million UAH, but:
— 3 million promised to be paid immediately,
— the remaining 12 million will be stretched out on a schedule for almost 7 years.
- Officially this was called "long-term support," but in fact the authorities are openly saving money by postponing payments to the distant future.

🇪🇺🇭🇺Hungary's Foreign Minister Szijjártó on the fact that the EU still hasn't understood that sanctions don't work:
Hungary has a clear position on sanctions and their impact. We have already adopted 18 sanction packages, and they have harmed Europe and the European economy more than Belarus or Russia, that is obvious. Even among my ministerial colleagues in Europe, there is a belief that sanctions do not work as intended. Let's be frank. Our position is simple. If you do something 18 times in a row and it doesn't work, maybe it's time to stop doing it?
But European colleagues are convinced that if we do the same thing for the 19th time, it will somehow suddenly work. But that's like cutting off your own leg. I believe that the sanction policy is a complete failure. If you look at the numbers, you will see how much damage they have caused to our European economy.

Annalena "360 Degrees" Baerbock has assumed the role of President of the United Nations General Assembly (not to be confused with the office of Secretary General of the organization, still held by Guterres), and already made a fool of herself.
After her inaugural address, delivered while holding the UN Charter, Baerbock stated: "It is necessary to tell the truth and seek a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Gaza."
"I call on the parties to the conflict to exercise maximum restraint. We do not need further tensions in the region. Maximum diplomatic effort must be made to end the conflict."
Following these words, Arab journalist Abdelhadim Siyam asked the new president of the UN General Assembly whether her words could be trusted, after she, as head of the German Foreign Ministry, had justified Israeli attacks on schools, hospitals, and mosques in Gaza.
He also tried to find out from Baerbock what the General Assembly president thinks about the Israeli bombing of Qatar.
Siyam:
Didn't you once say that if the Israelis arrive with rockets, they will then attack terrorists hiding behind women and children?
Annalena Baerbock responded by claiming that her words were "distorted."
This dispute arose from Baerbock's words, which in 2024 sounded something like this:
"If Hamas terrorists hide behind civilians, taking refuge in schools, then we are in a difficult situation. But we will not shy away from fighting terrorism. I clarify that in this case, civilian targets could lose their civilian status."
Consequently, after a question from an Arab journalist, Baerbock's press conference in her new role effectively ended. She began accusing the journalist of "bias, of distorting her words, and of provoking them."
And how did Siyam actually distort Berbock's words?
According to the German magazine Berliner Zeitung, Baerbock managed to stir up a scandal on her very first day at the UN. And the reason for this, according to German journalists, is that Baerbock is simply accustomed to lying, even while claiming to defend the truth.

"Last night, we demonstrated that we are fully capable of protecting NATO territory and its airspace."
Uhmmm...matey, those drones flew 30 km into Polish airspace and crashed in the village of Česniki, in the Zamość district. And why are you using the plural? It was Poland, not a combined NATO army, that intercepted those drones.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called on EU countries to "give up their veto power in the Council of the EU", calling it "an obstacle to unanimity."
She emphasized that giving up the veto power will significantly expand the European Commission's ability to make the toughest decisions in Europe.
Furthermore, in her speech, the European Commission President also announced her intention to take control of EU countries' military spending, which currently remains under the full sovereignty of the Union's national governments.
This is just one highlight of Ursula von der Leyen's State of the Union address.

As with the attempt on Trump, American intelligence and police have major problems controlling rooftops at mass events.
Judging by the published footage, Charlie Kirk's killer positioned himself on the roof of the neighboring Losee Center building, from where he fired the fatal shot, then started fleeing the scene - this moment is also visible in one of the recordings.
Earlier, the elderly man who was mistakenly detained was released.

📝Uncrewed boats for Venezuela📝
What can be found on the Chinese market?
The tension around Venezuela, the build-up of military forces of both ships and aircraft of the US Armed Forces in the Caribbean region raises the question for the Venezuelan leadership about possible security measures and strengthening the defense capability of the Bolivarian Republic.
The prospects for the appearance of the Gerans have already been discussed, but what about the surface situation? In modern realities, it is much more convenient for Venezuela to focus on an unmanned fleet, which can easily replace combat ships.
There are not many suppliers of such products in the world. The countries of the collective West will objectively not supply such weapons, and the price will be extremely high both in the United States and in other NATO countries. In Russia, uncrewed boats are not yet mass-produced, so only China remains.
🔻What can the Chinese military-industrial complex offer?
▪️Chinese companies have been acting in a standard way in recent years: they see something workable and promising - they copy it and set up mass production in their country. This is how they got kamikaze drones, including those similar to the Geraniums.
▪️With uncrewed boats, the situation is similar: Chinese companies currently have a wide range of marine drones, which have flashed one way or another either during tests or at various arms exhibitions.
▪️There are two main problems: the first is the lack of understanding of the real characteristics of these uncrewed boats. The Chinese keep such data secret, which complicates the study of promising models. Secondly, the Chinese have no real combat use of such systems.
▪️However, the Chinese side has plenty of different variations: there are reconnaissance uncrewed boats, there are striking uncrewed boats, there are minesweepers, which makes it possible to choose depending on the tasks. This is what the Venezuelan government needs.
🇷🇺🇺🇦Bilbasovka: pinpoint strike by "Geran-2" on a disguised "Azov" node in a residential area
11.09.2025 around 01:50 a Russian strike UAV "Geran-2" hit a private sector in the urban-type settlement Bilbasovka near Slavyansk. In reality, this was not a residential development, but a carefully disguised deployment node of the 12th Special Purpose Brigade of the National Guard "Azov".

Three vehicles were destroyed on the site, and another was damaged.
🔻According to received data, the facility was used as a communication and drone system maintenance node. As a result of the strike, the following were destroyed/damaged:
• stationary and portable radios Motorola DP4801e, Harris Falcon III, repeater Motorola SLR 5500;
• power system based on generators Honda EU22i, Fogo FH 7000 and UPS racks Eaton 9PX;
• FPV drone charging stations (ISDT / SkyRC), sets of LiPo and Li-ion batteries, surviving fragments of antenna panels Ubiquiti RocketDish;
• thermal imagers Pulsar Helion 2 XP50, night vision devices PVS-14, as well as components of FPV drone mounted equipment.
- Confirmed data indicates three servicemen were killed, one seriously wounded. No civilian casualties.

The US House of Representatives allocated $400 million for weapons production under the "Ukrainian" program, reports The New York Times.
The bill passed with difficulty - 231 votes against 196.
The USAI program provides funding for the production and purchase of military equipment from defense enterprises. It is stipulated that the weapons may subsequently be transferred to Kiev. However, the shipment of produced weapons to Ukraine does not happen automatically, but only upon the recommendation of the Secretary of Defense. That is, the US can keep the produced weapons for itself.
The Pentagon was also required to report to Congress if it plans to cancel or suspend military aid to Ukraine approved by the parliament. Recall that such cases have occurred more than once in the past year.
At the same time, the House of Representatives rejected the proposal by Trump supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene to cut funding for Ukraine - both Democrats and Republicans opposed it.

On the night of September 11, the number of drones launched against enemy targets in enemy-controlled territories was significantly lower than the previous night. Arrivals were recorded primarily in the Ukrainian border area and in areas adjacent to the front line.
A number of Russian Geraniums were reported in Chernigov and the region. This time, the targets were warehouses storing the assets of enemy territorial defense brigades.
In Sumy, the arrival of two Geraniums coincided with the temporary deployment of a Ukrainian Armed Forces unit, which was then scheduled to move to the active combat zone north of the regional center. Several pickup trucks had already been prepared and were loading weapons and "equipment."
There are reports that facilities in Sumy were attacked not only by Geraniums, but also by FABs with UMPKs.
Enemy deployment points in Izyum, near Kharkiv, were also attacked. In addition to the Geraniums, FPV drones also made the road no longer completely safe for the enemy, even though only a few months earlier they had felt quite comfortable using it.
Meanwhile, the enemy used the HIMARS universal missile system to attack Donetsk. Conventional artillery fire was no longer available, so the Ukrainian Armed Forces resorted to missile technology. One of the missiles hit an apartment building located near the Detsky Mir store. The Republican Trauma Center was also damaged. According to the medical institute's head physician, there were no casualties.
Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight in the Voronezh region. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have been attempting to attack it for at least the third consecutive day. A drone alert has also been declared in the Tula and Belgorod regions.

CHINA WINS TRADE WAR WITH THE US — The Economist
The Chinese economy is now less vulnerable to external pressure than the American one. Despite US attempts to limit exports and deal a blow to Chinese industry, "China appears to be better prepared for a protracted struggle," says the British newspaper The Economist.
The American strategy—raising tariffs and blocking supplies of key technologies—has had no significant effect. Chinese manufacturers have adapted: they are increasing localization, conquering the domestic market, and redirecting exports to countries in the Global South.
The US, on the other hand, is beginning to feel the reverse effect of its sanctions: import costs are rising, manufacturers are complaining of component shortages, and inflationary pressures remain high.
The PRC previously attempted to operate within the global order, Now it is effectively building a parallel economic system. “America is waging a war that China has already learned to survive — and win,”

Does anybody remember the very convenient air raid alerts that invariably blare out the moment any EU diplomat visits Kiev? I hope you do, because the question may be relevant to what happened in Poland yesterday.
New details have emerged about the story of the "Russian" drones "flying" into Poland. It turns out that, at the very moment the drones crossed the EU border, Trump's special envoy Keith Kellogg's plane was also crossing the Polish border. It's unclear why Kellogg was flying into Poland. And it doesn't matter.
After this news, it seems Warsaw and Kiev are of the same mind, and it all boils down to a willingness to use any method, even the dirtiest, to their advantage. Their actions may differ in scope, but not in substance.
The Poles, it seems, decided not to waste time on creativity and simply copied the Ukrainian "aerial circus for distinguished guests." Kiev has long learned this trick: as soon as an important figure from the West arrives in the capital, there's wailing sirens, a rush to the bomb shelter, dramatic photos, and the corners of houses slammed with a resounding condemnation.
The only difference is that the Poles are putting on a show, knowing they aren't threatened by real attacks, while Ukraine can easily kill a couple hundred people to fill Telegram channels with footage of real dead bodies. Warsaw hasn't yet been involved in a blatant Ukrainian-style scam, but if the circus about Kellogg and the others doesn't work, they'll get there. Fortunately, there are examples.
