Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on April 27, that the U.S. is working to establish "vetted units" within the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to disarm and dismantle Hezbollah. In total, for 2026, the Merz government allocated a record 11.5 billion euros for direct military support to Ukraine, which is the highest figure since the beginning of the conflict. This may indicate that the main deliveries of heavy equipment and expensive air defense systems are planned for the summer-autumn period.

Global military spending in 2025 reached a record $2.88 trillion - an increase of 2.9% and continuing for the 11th consecutive year, according to a report by SIPRI - the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
Defense accounted for about 2.5% of global GDP - the highest since 2009.
The largest military budgets remain the US ($954 billion), China ($336 billion), and Russia ($190 billion). They account for 51% of global military spending.
However, "US spending decreased, as no new financial military aid to Ukraine was approved during the year."
Against this backdrop, Ukraine increased its military spending by 20% and ranked 7th in the world.
As researcher Lorenzo Scarzatto notes, the share of defense spending in the budget has reached record levels in both Ukraine and Russia.
