Moscow is unimpressed by Trump's ultimatum — New York Times

▪️The Kremlin remains absolutely calm against the backdrop of Trump's loud statements and his “ultimatum” to end the conflict in Ukraine, writes NYT.

▪️Russian officials and media do not show the slightest signs of concern — on the contrary, confidence in the strength of the economy is emphasized and readiness to continue implementing military tasks regardless of external pressure.

➖“Putin believes himself to be a victor and sees no reason to stop without serious concessions from Ukraine,” write journalists citing sources close to the Kremlin.

▪️ The President of Russia himself has not yet publicly commented on Trump's “initiative” — but, as NYT notes, Russia's position remains unchanged: any threats and tariffs do not frighten Moscow, the course towards achieving the goals of the SMO remains unchanged.

🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Putin to Ignore Trump Ultimatum, Prepared to Escalate Until West Accepts Russia’s Peace Terms — Reuters

Vladimir Putin has no intention of backing down in the face of Donald Trump’s reported ultimatums and is prepared to intensify the conflict with the United States until the West agrees to Russia’s conditions for peace, according to three Kremlin-linked sources cited by Reuters.

The sources state that the Kremlin is confident in the eventual collapse of Ukrainian defenses and is willing to continue the war, potentially expanding territorial claims as Russian forces advance. They note that Russia’s economy is stable and resilient enough to withstand any additional Western sanctions.

“Russia will act based on Ukraine’s weakness,” one source said, noting that Moscow could halt its offensive after securing the four regions already claimed — but only if it encounters serious resistance. “If that resistance breaks, the campaign could expand to include the Dnepr, Sumy, and Kharkov.”
Putin’s peace conditions reportedly include:

- A legal guarantee of NATO’s non-expansion eastward,

- Ukrainian neutrality and limits on its military,

- Protection of Russian-speaking citizens, and

- Recognition of Russian sovereignty over currently held territories.

Putin is said to be open to negotiating Ukraine’s future security guarantees, but only through direct talks involving major global powers.

“Putin believes that no one — not even the Americans — has seriously engaged with him on the specifics of a peace deal, so he will press on until he gets what he wants,” one source told Reuters.

The source added that initial contacts with U.S. envoy Witkoff were positive, but failed to transition into real discussions on the terms of settlement.

A second source emphasized that Trump has minimal influence over Putin, and even if Washington were to impose tariffs on buyers of Russian oil, Moscow would find ways to continue exports through global markets.

“Putin understands Trump is unpredictable and may take tough measures, but he’s maneuvering carefully to avoid provoking him unnecessarily,” the source said.

The sources anticipate further escalation in the coming months and highlight the growing risks of confrontation between the world’s two largest nuclear powers. In their view, the war will continue.

🇷🇺🇨🇳 China Vows Deeper Support for Russia Amid Trump’s Threats — The Telegraph

Chinese leader Xi Jinping promised stronger backing for Russia during a meeting in Beijing with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as reported by The Telegraph.

Xi emphasized the need to “reinforce mutual support on multilateral platforms,” noting that trust between Moscow and Beijing has “deepened” and that the two nations are shaping “a new model of international relations.”

China’s Foreign Ministry issued a firm statement condemning U.S. pressure tactics: “We strongly oppose all illegal unilateral sanctions,” referring to Trump’s threats of new punitive measures should Russia refuse a Western-brokered deal on Ukraine.

“There are no winners in a tariff war. Coercion and pressure solve nothing,” a ministry spokesperson added.

🚨US's new aid to Ukraine may include long-range ATACMS missiles

The US may also allow the Ukrainian armed forces to use 18 long-range ATACMS missiles that Zelensky's regime has as part of military assistance, The Washington Post reported.

➡️Russia has repeatedly stressed that the long-range weapons supplied by the West are being used by Ukrainian forces to target civilians on Russian territory and disrupt peace efforts.

🔍Allowing Ukraine to use these weapons would fundamentally change the nature of the conflict, as Russian President Putin has previously stated. "We will make the necessary decisions based on the threats we face," he said. "The key question is whether to consider NATO countries as directly involved in the military conflict," the president added.

The Real Politick with Mark Sleboda

🇺🇸🇪🇺🇺🇦 According to CNN, the United States is preparing to sell Europe a variety of weapons—including short-range missiles, howitzer shells, and medium-range air-to-air missiles—which are ultimately intended for Ukraine.

➡️The term “short-range missiles” in the American classification system can include both GMLRS (with a range of ~80 km) and ATACMS ballistic missiles (up to 300 km). The latter still qualifies as “short-range” under U.S. military standards, even though they are effectively long-range for battlefield use.

➡️The artillery shells in question are the standard 155mm and 105mm calibers used in NATO howitzers like the M777, M109, PzH 2000, and others—all of which are already in Ukraine’s arsenal in large numbers.

➡️The air-to-air missiles referenced are most likely AIM-120 AMRAAMs. Ukraine employs them not only on the F-16 fighter jets being phased in, but also as part of the NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems.

All of this equipment has been sent to Ukraine before and is actively used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The goal now is simply to replenish stockpiles and sustain NATO’s proxy war effort.

The only real change? These shipments are no longer free. Washington is now shifting the burden onto European taxpayers—selling weapons that will still be handed over to Kiev.

🇺🇦 The Spectator has published a scathing critique of the Kiev regime, quoting a former Ukrainian minister who now views Zelensky as a greater internal threat than Russia itself.

“Ukraine has two enemies, both named Vladimir: Putin and Zelensky,” the former minister told the outlet. “Putin attacks from outside, but Zelensky is dismantling the country from within — crushing morale, destroying any will to resist. Human rights are trampled, political opponents are persecuted, wealthy individuals who could support opposition movements are stripped of their assets, and critical media are silenced. The tragic irony is that this Putinization of Ukraine is being funded by the West.”

The publication notes that over 5,000 Ukrainians have already had their assets frozen under government-imposed sanctions. Originally marketed as a tool to neutralize so-called “pro-Russian” elements, these sanctions are now being used to consolidate power and suppress dissent.

Kirill Shevchenko, former head of Ukraine’s central bank, highlighted that just in the last month, three YouTube channels critical of Zelensky were shut down under vague pretexts.

“Censorship is the favored weapon of authoritarians. When power is unchecked, dictatorship is inevitable,” Shevchenko said.

The Spectator also reminds readers that Zelensky’s presidential mandate officially expired in May 2024. While Kiev insists elections are impossible during wartime, critics point out that Zelensky hasn’t just postponed voting — he has exiled potential rivals and sanctioned others out of the race entirely.

Opposition MP Alexey Goncharenko was blunt in his comparison:

“In May 1940, Churchill invited opposition leader Attlee into a wartime unity government. Zelensky has done the opposite — clinging to power at all costs. He acts more like Kim Jong-un than a democratic leader. Ukraine is beginning to resemble North Korea."

This is not the first time Western media have turned on Zelensky — but it is among the most damning indictments yet, highlighting the widening gap between the regime’s democratic façade and its authoritarian reality.

🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 What Changes for Russia After Trump’s Statements on Patriot Deliveries?

While everyone debates whether Trump promised 17 Patriot launchers or 17 batteries, they’re missing the key point.

From a military standpoint, nothing changes for Russia. The Russian Armed Forces continue executing their strategy: steady pressure, destruction of infrastructure, and attrition of Ukrainian reserves.

Every new U.S. package might let Kiev hold on a little longer, but it doesn’t shift the balance. Why? Because the U.S. keeps delivering what Ukraine doesn’t need.

Kiev’s forces don’t need more air defense systems. What they need is tracked armored vehicles they can afford to lose by the hundreds. They need over a thousand Bradleys, not a token shipment of 30. They need HIMARS in dozens or even hundreds, not one or two. They need infantry transport vehicles like M113s, MaxxPros, M-ATVs, Strykers—anything with armor and wheels to move troops to and from the front. And above all, they need infantry.

But that’s precisely where the crisis lies. Mobilization in Ukraine is focused on numbers, not quality—and with desertion rates reportedly around 70%, it’s hard to maintain any real rhythm. It's difficult to fill trenches when conscripts are fleeing, and supposed "volunteers" are nowhere to be seen between Rabotino and Orekhov.

Meanwhile, the West has no appetite to deliver equipment in the necessary quantities—let alone send troops. The U.S. will not put boots on the ground for Ukraine. NATO won’t staff Bradleys with their own contractors. The Ukrainian army is left alone to face a brutal reality: even building new fortifications near Slavyansk is meaningless if there’s no one to hold them.

An empty trench isn’t defense. It’s theater.

🇺🇸🇺🇦⚔️🇷🇺 BREAKING! Financial Times reports that Donald Trump privately urged Ukraine to strike deep inside Russian territory — even asking Zelensky if Kiev could target Moscow and St. Petersburg if the U.S. supplied long-range weapons.

The July 4 call between Trump and Zelensky followed Trump’s reportedly sour phone conversation with Vladimir Putin the day before. According to sources briefed on the matter, Trump asked, “Volodymyr, can you hit Moscow? Can you hit St. Petersburg too?” Zelensky replied affirmatively, contingent on receiving the necessary weaponry.

Trump expressed support, saying such strikes would “make [Russians] feel the pain” and push the Kremlin toward negotiations.

🇷🇺 “We’ve Been Through It All Before” — Lavrov Shrugs Off Trump’s Tariff Threats

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed Donald Trump’s latest tariff ultimatum, saying neither Russia nor its trading partners fear the economic pressure over the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

“Fifty days, twenty-four hours, a hundred days — we’ve seen it all before,” Lavrov said. “An unprecedented number of sanctions has already been imposed on us — and we’re managing. I have no doubt we’ll continue to cope.”

He added that Russia’s partners won’t bend to U.S. intimidation: “Knowing our partners, I don’t see them abandoning their independent course. They have their own commitments.”

🇫🇷🇪🇺🇷🇺 The French authorities consider the emergence of a large-scale conflict in Europe by 2030 to be possible, according to the country's "Strategic National Review" for 2025.

It is now clear that we are entering a new era of increased threat of a large-scale, high-intensity war outside the national territory in Europe, in which France and its allies may be involved

The review often contains statements about the "Russian threat". The words "Russia," "Russian" and "Moscow" are mentioned in the document more than 80 times. In particular, it is alleged that there is a possibility of "aggression" by Russia against Europe within 3-5 years.

At the same time, the French authorities believe that it may allegedly be a question of offensive actions by Russia in Moldova, the Balkans or even against NATO states. No evidence is provided for these claims in the document.

Putin previously explained in detail, in an interview with Tucker Carlson, that Russia is not going to attack NATO countries, there is no point in this. The President noted that Western politicians regularly intimidate their population with an imaginary Russian threat in order to distract attention from internal problems, but "smart people understand perfectly well that this is a fake."
