Sometime ago, Jesus visited the house of Mary and Martha. While Martha was busy in the kitchen, her sister Mary sat at the feet of the Lord listening to the Word, and being blessed by it. The word was more important than any other thing to Mary.
There was nothing wrong with what Martha did, but she was missing out on hearing the Word because she didn’t put her priorities right.
So, when it’s time for church or Bible study, that’s not the time to get out your toys or turn on the TV. No. It’s time to give God’s Word your full attention.

Every living creature has its unique nature. For example, it’s in a dog’s nature to bark and walk on all four legs. It would be strange to see a fish jump out of the water and start barking. The reason is that it’s not the nature of the fish to do that.
In the same manner, in Christ, you have a new nature too. This nature makes you different from the world, and that’s the nature of love because God is love (1 John 4:16)!
Now, you can love and forgive people easily. Therefore, let those around you experience the love of God through you today as you share the Gospel, and talk to them about Jesus.

Do you know that our praise to God aren’t mere words and melodious sound? No, they’re much more. In fact, it’s one of our weapons of victory against the devil.
Remember King Jehoshaphat? He was challenged to a battle by three strong nations. What did he do? He assembled singers, and put them in front of the army. They won the battle without firing a shot (2 Chronicles 20:22).
A life of praise is a life full of an unending victory. So, take advantage of every opportunity to worship, and see your life move from one victory to another. Glory to God!

In a parable, the Lord Jesus likened the Kingdom of God to a merchant who hunts for rare and precious pearls. You know why? Because pearls are precious stones which are rare.
Guess what? You’re the precious pearl the Lord was talking about in the parable. You’re rare, precious and beautiful to God. That’s the reason He gave His best, our Lord Jesus, to save you (John 3:16).
Therefore, never look down on yourself, for you’re special, beautiful, elegant, and more so, the Lord loves you so dearly

You should never believe anything from the devil. The Bible says, “…he’s a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44).
He has deceived many to think he’s got power but it’s not true. All he has are deceits and tricks (Ephesians 6:11). Therefore, if you know the Word, you won’t give in to his deceits and tricks.
So, spend time each day with the Word, studying and meditating on it. It will reveal to you the truth of all your blessings in Christ, and how to enjoy them.

As God’s child, you’ve been called into a life of triumph, where you win all the time. It’s like being in a race where you always win, no matter who your competitors are or how tough the race seems.
Apostle Paul understood this truth, which is why he boldly declared in Romans 8:37, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” This means that no matter the situation or challenge, your victory is certain.
Therefore, “…count it all joy when you fall into various trials” (James 1:2), because you’re coming out on top as a victor! Glory to God!

Today’s opening scripture are the Words of our Lord Jesus. They’re such comforting and refreshing words. He’s telling you today that He’s given you His peace and there’s no need for you to be worried, troubled or afraid anymore.
Is something bothering you or someone you know? Read the scripture out loud to yourself, and share it with that friend who may be troubled.
Remember, Jesus has given you His peace; the peace that’s from heaven (Philippians 4:7). It’s the peace that keeps you safe, and causes you to excel in all you do no matter what’s happening around you.

The start of a New Year is a good time to make plans to be more excellent in everything, including your academics. As God's child, you've got an excellent spirit; that means it's possible to be excellent in all your subjects at school.
Remember Daniel? He had an excellent spirit and developed an excellent character, which stood him out in all he did (Daniel 6:3).
Like Daniel, be known for your godly character and excellent academic records. Do everything diligently and carefully. Spend time to study your notes before classes and do your assignments too.

People who never liked being corrected always end up in a lot of troubles (Proverbs 22:3). They’re hardly successful in anything or task.
Saul is an example of someone who disobeyed an instruction from the Lord. God wasn’t happy with him (1 Samuel 15:12-23). Don’t be like that.
Learn to listen to, and act on the instructions that come from the Lord. That’s where your promotion lies.

Fasting is more than just staying away from food; that’s just a part of it. It actually is an act of worship to the Lord. It’s a time to focus on the Lord, studying His Word and praying. At such times, you stay away from everything that could distract you from Him.
When you fast, your spirit becomes more sensitive to what the Lord is saying to you. So, I encourage you to take fasting with prayer more seriously and make sure to participate in your local church fasting and prayer programs, especially as the year comes to an end.

How? When you study and spend time with God’s Word, your tongue will be yielded to the Holy Spirit. That way, you won’t talk carelessly and foolishly.

To keep your heart and mind pure, spend time on the right material like God’s Word. God’s Word is a spiritual cleanser, and as you study it, impure thoughts and pictures are removed from your heart.
Therefore, start today and set out time each day to fellowship with the Word through diligent study. This is how to keep your heart and mind pure.

The title of today’s devotion reminds me of a story of a woman in the Bible. Her name was Hannah. Hannah didn’t have a child. So, she went to the temple to pray for one.
While she was praying, she didn’t just ask the Lord for a child, she was very specific in her request: she asked the Lord for a son. Sure enough, she got her miracle (1 Samue 1: 10-20).
Like Hannah, when you’re praying to the Lord about something, be specific in your request. Hallelujah!

Remember God has already given you all you need to live a great life (2 Peter 1:3), and that’s because He wants you to be happy every day. He doesn’t want you to have a blue day!
So, don’t let anyone or anything steal your joy. Stay bubbling and excited every day as you continue to keep your smile on!

Most food items including snacks have expiry dates. I’m sure you would have noticed your mum or dad checking the expiry dates on food labels before picking up such items in the grocery shop. Otherwise, they wouldn’t buy them because expired food shouldn’t be consumed.
God’s blessings, however, have no expiry dates! His blessings are forever! What’s more, He doesn’t take them back (Romans 11:29)!
So, God’s blessings on your life are forever, and no matter where you go, they’ll keep working because they don’t expire!

Yesterday, I showed you how the devil is a liar. But you may not be able to tell his lies different from the truth of God’s Word if your heart isn’t filled with the Word. This is why you should fill your heart with the Word. How do you fill your heart with God’s Word? It’s simply by studying and meditating on it.
So, I encourage you to set out time each day to diligently study the Word; memorize the scriptures, meditate on it, and with your mouth, declare them out loud. This is how to put the Word in your heart and live a life of unending blessings and victory.
If you want all the blessings in God’s Word to be your daily experience, fill your heart with the Word every day!

As Christians, we aren’t quiet people; we’re a talking race. We’re bold and always speaking the Word everywhere.
As God’s child, this should be your life too. You should be bold to say what God’s Word says about you. The more you say what it says about you, the more your life becomes what the Word talks about.
So, don’t keep quiet; rather, keep saying it. Don’t stop talking it! Declare out loud right where you are, “I’m the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! I can do all things through Christ! I’m a victor and an overcomer!” That’s your life: keep talking! Glory!

In the Old Testament, Jubilee was a special time of rest for the children of Israel. It was a time when every debt was forgiven, slaves were freed, the hungry were fed, and it was a time of celebration for everyone.
For you, Christ is your jubilee. Your real Jubilee began when you were born again. You’ve entered into the rest of God, and into a time of unending celebration.
So, you see why everyday should be joyful and exciting for you? You don’t have to wait for a special day to celebrate. Everyday should be for celebration because you have come into God’s rest! Hallelujah!

Today’s memory verse is from the story of Elijah. Elijah prayed that it wouldn’t rain in the city of Jezreel and it didn’t for three and a half years. Then, he prayed again for the rain to come and it rained. Wow! Elijah changed the situation through his prayers.
Like Elijah, you too can effect changes through prayer. So, refuse to complain over any situation no matter how difficult it may seem. You have the power to change situations through your prayers.
So, make that change now by speaking faith-filled words over any situation you don’t want.

God expects you as His child to respect those older than you. That is exactly what today’s memory verse is saying. Do you know that greeting is one way to respect elders? In fact, the way you greet people says a lot about you and the kind of training you’ve received.
Every time you meet the elderly, you should greet them properly. When you greet, do so with respect. Also, you should show respect to those who are older by not talking back to them or being rude. Remember you’re an excellent child, so, let excellence be seen in you as you learn to show respect to the elderly everywhere you go.

When you live this way those around you will know you’re different and be drawn to you, and this is a great opportunity to reach out to them with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus.

So, you see, there’s a lot to celebrate during Christmas. Tell everyone about Jesus, for He’s worth celebrating!

Like the Psalmist, be conscious of the unending goodness, faithfulness, loving kindness, grace and mercy of the Lord.
And what’s more? Always say to yourself that “surely goodness and mercy follow me everywhere” and take out some time today to thank Him for His unending mercy to you. Hallelujah!
