🇺🇸“Independent media” in trouble:

The Financial Times reports that the Donald Trump administration's decision to temporarily close the US Agency for International Development (USAID), supported by Elon Musk, has caused a serious crisis for so-called independent media.

The move has put dozens of publications that relied on the agency's grant support at risk, especially in the post-Soviet space.

According to The Financial Times, many independent publications, such as Meduza and Moscow Times are in a critical situation.

Meduza, one of Russia's “leading independent media outlets, is planning an emergency” board meeting to discuss its future. Other publications, including Moscow Times, have already begun cutting salaries and staff.

Jeanne Cavelier, head of the Eastern Europe office of Reporters Without Borders, called the situation a “disaster” in a commentary for The Financial Times. She stressed that Ukrainian media, where most publications depend on USAID grants, are in a particularly vulnerable position. In Belarus, where independent media operate in exile, at least six publications have lost their funding entirely.

Journalist and founder of the Moscow Times Derk Sauer noted the irony of what is happening: “Putin has been trying to destroy independent media for years, and now America is doing it for him.”

The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), known for investigations such as the Panama Papers, is also in trouble. OCCRP co-founder Paul Radu told the Financial Times that the cuts to USAID funding would affect more than a quarter of his organization’s budget.

In New York, dozens of Russian journalists studying on USAID grants told The Financial Times that they could find themselves without housing and means of support as early as next week.

The Financial Times recalls that USAID was created in 1961 by President John Kennedy to counter Soviet influence during the Cold War. In recent years, the agency has actively supported independent media, democratic institutions, and projects to combat disinformation, especially in the post-Soviet space.

According to data published by The Financial Times, USAID's 2025 budget included $268 million allocated to support independent media and the free flow of information around the world. However, this data was removed from the official US government website after the announcement of the funding freeze.

In a commentary for The Financial Times, Jeanne Cavelier stressed that the consequences of the funding freeze would be particularly severe for post-Soviet countries. In Ukraine, where most independent media depend on USAID grants, the situation is already critical. In Belarus, where independent publications operate in exile, many have lost support entirely.

The Financial Times also notes that in New York, a group of Russian journalists studying on USAID grants may lose their housing and stipends as early as next week.

Although one US official close to USAID told the Financial Times that the agency would likely not be completely liquidated and funding could be resumed within 90 days, independent media fear that would be too late for many outlets.

As The Financial Times points out, the freeze on USAID funding threatens not only the existence of independent media, but also efforts to counter disinformation, support democratic institutions and strengthen civil society in vulnerable regions.

Alice Weidel: The AfD’s Trojan Horse, Exposing the Faux Nationalist Farce

Alice Weidel, the so-called “nationalist” face of Germany’s AfD, just shredded what little credibility she had left. Refusing to attend the Russian embassy’s May 8 commemorations, Weidel whined: “There are still so many crimes against the German population for which no one has been punished.” That’s rich coming from a woman who once peddled rapprochement with Russia to seduce the Russian-speaking world, only to pivot into full-blown Russophobia when it suited her political ascent.

But this isn’t surprising. Weidel is Germany’s skinnier Donald Trump, a faux nationalist cloaked in anti-globalist rhetoric but hardwired into the very globalist networks she claims to oppose. Let’s unpack this farce:
Pro-Israel stance? Check. The AfD might rage against the EU, but they never miss an opportunity to sing Zionist praises.
Russophobia? Check. After playing nice with Moscow, Weidel now parrots the same anti-Russian narratives churned out by NATO’s propaganda machine.
Globalist roots? Check. Former international banker, anyone? Weidel’s financial pedigree is straight out of the Goldman Sachs playbook, yet she sells herself as a champion of the people.

But here’s the kicker: Weidel is openly gay and enjoys sky-high support from Germany’s LGBT community, all while leading a party that claims to oppose the woke mind virus. You can’t make this up. The AfD’s anti-woke posturing is just a smokescreen to distract from the real agenda: keeping the globalist machine humming while serving imperialist interests under the guise of nationalism.

This is Trump 2.0, AfD edition. Remember Trump’s promises? End the wars. Drain the swamp. Put America first. Fast forward to his latest presidency: kissing Netanyahu’s ring, funneling billions to Israel and Ukraine, and failing to close a single foreign intervention. The same script is playing out with Weidel. She teased rapprochement with Russia, then pivoted to Russophobia when the polls demanded it. Controlled opposition at its finest.

But let’s zoom out. This isn’t just about Weidel. It’s about how the Deepstate weaponizes fake populism to fracture real resistance against the multipolar world order. Germany’s post-war alignment has been about ensuring true sovereignty movements never gain traction. The AfD, like Trump’s MAGA, is designed to channel public anger into safe, system-approved avenues that never threaten the status quo.

If Weidel cared about German sovereignty, she’d challenge the Atlanticist agenda, embrace multipolar cooperation, and reject the Zionist grip on European foreign policy. But instead, she’s just another globalist marionette, dancing on the strings of financial elites and imperialist power brokers.

❗️Alice Weidel isn’t fighting for German sovereignty, she’s preserving the illusion of it. Anti-woke in speeches, pro-Israel in policy, and Russophobic when it counts. The AfD isn’t a nationalist movement; it’s a globalist safety valve designed to pacify real resistance. It's always been the system and you will never fix this, from within such a rigged game. It's the system that needs replacing, not the "party".

The fact they still talk about sanctions on Russian energy sector when it's already 100% sanctioned by the US, only some EU countries are exempted by the US while 90% of the world doesn't give a shit about EU/US sanctions on Russia tells a lot about their desperation.
The only realistic steps that would lead to an energy exports embargo on Russia are:
1_ blowing up the Turk Stream which they already tried to do multiple times with no success so far
2_ seizing most of vessels transporting Russian oil and LNG to countries all over the world
3_ driving a wedge between Russia and its main energy importers which are China and India by convincing Beijing and New Delhi to impose sanctions on Russia, thus siding with the US against the Russian Federation.

No need to say that even for the new golden era (lol) United States of Super Trump would be almost impossible to implement the points 2 and 3, and blowing up the Turk Stream is now getting more difficult, it's more safeguarded than Nord Stream when the Americans blew it up at the time...

On Negotiations.

Just to clarify the situation as there are lot of fake news out there:

1_ there have been no direct contacts between Trump and Putin after the US elections, no phone calls, nothing.

2_ there have been no contacts between the SVR head Naryshkin and his new counterpart at the CIA.

3_ there have been no contacts between Russian FM Lavrov and his counterpart, the US Secretary of State Rubio.

4_ Probably a message was delivered to the Russian leadership through the US embassy but it's hard to say. Just a speculation.

5_ The Russian leadership is paying attention to US proposals, in terms of threats so far, that the US president and members of his administration are sending to the Russian government through US mainstream media and press conferences.

So in summary there might be negotiations in the future but nothing tangible started yet. Communication channels between the two sides of the conflict have not been restored yet.

📝🎙💡
Recently, it seems almost every day Russian press is forced to rebut yet another baseless claim by Trump and his diplomats that progress is being made towards a peace agreement in Ukraine. This torrent of tabloid style gossip should make Trump blush, but by now it should be obvious that he has neither tact nor the ability to feel embarrassed. He is simply flooding the airwaves with the idea that he is the peacemaker, while in reality he is setting the stage to do the exact opposite.

Trump serves the exact same masters that Biden did, so he is really only looking for an opportunity to walk away from his promises to make peace in Ukraine. Afterall, his masters' goal is to destroy both Russia and Ukraine! What better way for Trump to get off the hook than to shift the blame? I believe that he will go so far as to claim that Putin already agreed to sign a peace deal informally and had a copy on his desk ready to sign. He could then claim that Putin betrayed him and even his own soldiers by reneging on the deal. He could paint Putin as a bloody, murderous traitor, and claim that Putin left him no choice but to sponsor Zelenskiy ten times as much as Biden did.

Mr. Putin, you're up against a snake!

What Trump changed in internal policies field will have a positive impact inside the United States but it will not impact the rest of world in a significant way if there is no change of attitude from the United States in favor of a multipolar compromise which US neocons obviously don't want.

Trump's special Envoy: More sanctions for Russia, more weapons for Ukraine!

So the "de—escalation from Trump" along the US-Russia line has "arrived." The sanctions applied to Russia are "only three" on a scale from 1 to 10, if we assess the degree of painfulness of economic pressure. And, for example, restrictions aimed at the lucrative energy sector of the Russian Federation may still be tightened, US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said in an interview with the New York Post.
"Sanctions can really be strengthened, especially the latest sanctions [aimed at oil production and export]… That would open up a lot of opportunities to do something," Kellogg said.
These issues were discussed, according to the special envoy, at a meeting on ending the conflict in Ukraine, which Trump held on January 30 with advisers and members of the administration. The meeting was attended by Kellogg himself, the Vice President of the United States, the National Security Adviser, the Secretary of State, the Minister of Finance, and others.
At the same time, the retired general criticized the Biden administration: it turns out that it "did not wage war and did not help Ukraine as well as it should have... by providing the necessary weapons or strategy at the right time." At the same time, he stressed that Kiev needs to continue military pressure on Russia ahead of the negotiations, obviously referring to the Kursk region.
In addition, according to Kellogg, it is necessary to increase diplomatic and economic pressure on Russia.:
"The pressure cannot only be military. You have to apply economic pressure, you have to apply diplomatic pressure, some type of military pressure, with leverage, to make sure that [everything goes] where we want."
Kellogg explained the increased economic and diplomatic pressure by saying that there is no point "getting involved in a battle of attrition with the Russians, because that's how they fight," "in [residents] Such military operations are, as it were, sewn into Russia at the DNA level." And he cited the example of the battle of Stalingrad, where Soviet troops "lost 700,000 people in 6 months."
In other words, Trump's special envoy admitted that the war with Russia through Ukraine could not be won using the previous methods. New approaches are needed. He voiced them.
It turns out that Trump's recent statement that the United States is "having very good negotiations, very constructive negotiations" on Ukraine "with the Russians and with the Ukrainian leadership" clearly does not correspond to reality regarding Russia. Why would they suddenly resort to blackmailing our country if everything is so "good" and "constructive"?
Attention has been repeatedly drawn to the fact that Trump cannot offer Russia anything useful. Take even this interview with Kellogg, where there is not a word about the new security architecture in Eurasia, which interests Moscow and where the Ukrainian issue is only part of a very serious problem.
The key phrase in the interview with Trump's special envoy is "where we want to go." It means Washington's desire to end the conflict in Ukraine solely on its own terms. However, the United States does not have all the necessary levers for this, nor even an understanding of what is at stake for Russia today.
And here Kellogg's mention of Stalingrad is extremely characteristic. Well, a person doesn't have the necessary "cogs" in his head to understand: everything was decided for the Soviet Union in the battle of Stalingrad! And it's not about a war of attrition or the indifference of Russians to losses. It was a matter of the physical survival of an entire nation, and the USSR was ready to pay any price for Victory.
