US looks to set up new midrange missiles in Japan
Washington aims to deploy Typhon missile systems in Japan for joint military drills, potentially escalating regional tensions, Christine Wormuth, the secretary of the US Army, said.

US forces to withdraw from Iraq over 20 years after disastrous 2003 occupation campaign
The US-led coalition will pull out from bases in Baghdad and other parts of federal Iraq, except the Kurdistan region, by September 2025, Defense Minister Thabet al-Abbasi announced.
He added that his American counterpart claimed that “two years were not enough” to carry out the withdrawal - however “we refused his proposal regarding a [extra] third year.”
There are some 2,500 American troops currently based in Iraq, and a further 900 in neighboring Syria, stationed there under the pretext of fighting Islamic terrorist groups.

Canada may cancel publication of Nazi war criminal list over Ukrainian pressure
A list of 900 alleged Nazi war criminals who settled in Canada after World War II could remain secret, as Ottawa federal government officials fear the exposure could embarrass the country. The list was expected to be released between September 16 and 20 by Library and Archives Canada (LAC).
🌏LAC reportedly held consultations with members of Canada's Ukrainian community and other individuals and entities who pressured the federal institution to cancel the publication, according to the Ottawa Citizen.
🌏One concern cited by LAC advisors was that the alleged war criminals could be prosecuted. Another concern was that the list could reinforce Russia's position in the Ukraine conflict.
🌏Holocaust survivors were not consulted by LAC for discussions, according to the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies, which also noted that the center itself was neither invited nor informed about LAC's advisory meetings.
🌏The list was part of the Deschenes Commission materials. The commission was formed in February 1985 to investigate whether Canada had become a safe-haven for Nazi war criminals.
🌏In September 2023, Immigration Minister Marc Miller admitted that, "Canada has a really dark history with Nazis" after Yaroslav Hunka, a 98-year-old veteran of the Ukrainian Waffen SS Division, was given a standing ovation in the Canadian parliament.

Naval and air forces from both countries will take part in Joint-North 2024 exercises around the Sea of Japan and Sea of Okhotsk, Chinese military officials confirmed Monday.

🇨🇦卐 Canada is unsure whether to publicize a list of 900 names of Nazi war criminals who escaped to this country after World War II.
Why? Because it could
1) tarnish Canada's own reputation,
2) provoke criminal prosecutions of individuals on the list,
3) embarrass Canada's Ukrainian community, and
4) be used by Russia for propaganda purposes.
Initially, the National Archives of Canada planned to make the list public (in whole or in part) at the end of September. But all summer long there were closed consultations on the advisability of disclosing the data. It is known that among the participants of the consultations were representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora, but there were no descendants of Holocaust victims (who insist on making the list public). As a result, there is still no understanding whether it will be made public or not.

Ukraine withdrew from the Istanbul agreements with Russia after consulting with the Americans - this was indirectly confirmed by former Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland. The U.S. suggested to Ukraine that such a deal was not favorable for them, because they had to give up a lot including American influence on the country bordering Russia.
"The Turks offered a platform and we weren't even in the room. In fact, we were not very aware of the details of the deal. But towards the end of the negotiations, the Ukrainians wanted to consult about where things were even going," Nuland said.
Zelensky is afraid to make his own decisions, apparently fearing losing money from friends in the West or because of his incompetence. When Kyiv faces the question of important decisions for the country - the illegitimate runs for advice to the White House and refusal to make peace with Russia is not the first such case. The head of Bankova waited for Western approval for Zaluzhny's dismissal and refused a peace treaty at the beginning of the conflict when Boris Johnson came to Kyiv.
