Man was supposed to be the maker of his own destiny. It is partly true. He can make his destiny only in so far as he is allowed by the Great Power which overrides all our intentions, all our plans and carries out His Own plans. I call that Great Power not by the name of Allah, not by the name of Khuda or God but by the name of Truth. For me, Truth is God and Truth overrides all our plans. The whole truth is only embodied within the heart of that Great Power- Truth. I was taught from my early days to regard Truth as unapproachable- something that you cannot reach. A great Englishman taught me to believe that God is unknowable. He is Knowable to the extent that our limited intellect allows.

When someone tells you, 'I love you,' and then you feel, 'Oh, I must be worthy after all,' that's an illusion. That's not true. Or someone says, 'I hate you,' and you think, 'Oh, God, I knew it; I'm not very worthy,' that's not true either. Neither one of these thoughts hold any intrinsic reality. They are an overlay. When someone says, 'I love you,' he is telling you about himself, not you. When someone says, 'I hate you,' she is telling you about herself, not you. World views are self views-literally.

Five wise men got lost in the forest.
The first one said:
– I will go the left – my intuition tells me that.
The second one said:
– I will go the right – because “the right” comes from the word “rightness”.
The third one said:
– I will go back – we came from there, it means I will go out from the forest.
The fourth one said:
– I will go straight – we should move forward, the forest will end and something new will open.
The fifth said:
– You are all wrong. There is a better solution. Wait for me.
He found the tallest tree and climbed into it. While he was climbing everyone else scattered towards their own sides. From above he saw where they should go to leave the forest faster. Now he could even see in what order the other wise men will reach the end of the forest. He climbed higher and saw the shortest way. He understood the problem and found the best solution! He knew that he did everything right. And the others were wrong. They were stubborn and they didn’t listen to him. He was the real Wise Man!
But he was wrong.
Everyone was right. The one who went to the left, found himself in the thicket. He had to starve and fight with wild animals. But he learned how to survive in the forest; he became a part of the forest and could teach others the same.
The one, who went to the right, met thieves. They took everything from him and made him steal with them. But after some time, he had woken up something in those thieves that they have forgotten – humanity and compassion. The remorse was so strong in some of them, that after his death they also became the wise men.
The one, who went back, made a pathway through the forest, which soon became a road for those who wanted to walk in the forest without being afraid of getting lost.
The one, who went straight, became a pioneer. He visited the places where no one else was and opened wonderful new possibilities for people, amazing healing plants and magnificent animals.
The one, who climbed into the tree, became a specialist of finding short ways. People turned to him when they wanted to find the fastest way to deal with their problems, even if it didn’t lead to any development.
This is how the five wise men reached their destiny.

Remember your uniqueness. Love yourself, respect yourself, respect your own voice; listen to it and follow it. It is better to go to hell following your own voice than to go to heaven following somebody else’s because that heaven won’t prove much of a heaven; you will be just a blind follower.
When you wake in the morning, take your previous night's failures, dreaded dreams and darkness; stand before the sun. and make them a burnt offering into the sun's flames. Then, walk in light.
When you take a cleansing shower, let all the rivers of this earth and all the streams of solar lights dwell in the flowing waters. Make your mind so that all its impurities and petty malices are washed off and you emerge a newborn, to look at all things afresh. Then, walk in light.
Sitting for your meditations, take a breach of fire and burn your hidden, private, envious, ungenerous evil person, who is made up of wrong thoughts, false words, poisoned foods and undirected deeds.Yes, burn him inside you and with an expelled breath scatter his ashes to the winds. Then rise, and walk in light.
In the evening take your day's concerns and hurts, depressions and pleasures, and the shadows of falsehood;stand before the setting sun, and burn them in the flames. Then find your inner sun, and repose in its light.

Sri Ramanamaharshi
A yodi was doing penance (tapas) for a number of years on the banks of the Ganges. When he had attained a high degree of concentration, he believed that to remain in that state for prolonged periods constituted salvation and therefore continued practising it. One day, before going into samadhi (a state of deep concentration), he felt thirsty and asked his disciple to bring some water for drinking from the Ganges; but before the disciple could return with the water, he had gone into samadhi, and he remained in that state for countless years.
Byron Katie
A belief is a thought that we’ve been attaching to, often for years. Most people think that they are what their thoughts tell them they are. One day I noticed that I wasn’t breathing—I was being breathed. Then I also noticed, to my amazement, that I wasn’t thinking—that I was actually being thought and that thinking isn’t personal. Do you wake up in the morning and say to yourself, “I think I won’t think today”? It’s too late: You’re already thinking! Thoughts just appear. They come out of nothing and go back to nothing, like clouds moving across the empty sky. They come to pass, not to stay. There is no harm in them until we attach to them as if they were true. No one has ever been able to control his thinking, although people may tell the story of how they have.
I don’t let go of my thoughts—I meet them with understanding. Then they let go of me.
Hindrances
The Buddha talked about five hindrances to meditation. Hindrances are distractions that will pull you away from your object of meditation—five troublemakers who will surely come calling!
Every distraction is based on at least one of the five hindrances.
Often they come two or three at a time and gang up.
Thich Nhat Hanh
"Breathing mindfully isn't something hard to do. You don't have to suffer while breathing. You're already doing it all day long. You don't need to struggle to control your breathing. In Fact, breathing in can become a real pleasure. You just allow yourself to breathe in naturally while focusing your attention on your in-breath. It's like the morning sunshine on a flower that has closed overnight. The sunshine doesn't interfere with the flower. The sunshine just embraces and subtly permeates the flower. Embraced by the energy of the sunshine, the flower begins to bloom."

We all need to "Chop Wood and Carry Water". Most of us experience work, hardship, traffic jams, and everything modern, urban life offers. By carefully examining our everyday choices we can move in the direction of right livelihood; we can be a lotus in a muddy world by building mindful communities, learning about compassionate living, or by coming to understand the concept of "Buddha nature." Work also discusses mindful consumption, or the mindful use of limited resources. Instead of Living Large in Lean Times or Ramen to Riches we can learn to appreciate living less large and think about what kind of riches we want for ourselves and others.
@SpiritualBooks
Thich Nhat Hanh
What do you think birth is? Most of us think birth means that something begins to exist where something didn't exist before. In our mind we have the concept that birth means that from nothing you suddenly become something; from no one you suddenly become someone. Most of us would define birth like that. Looking deeply, we see that this definition is not sound. From nothing, you cannot become something. From no one, you can never become someone.

There are moments when perfection stands in time and space, when the beauty of the moment does not need to be explained, just because no words are strong enough. Those are the most beautiful moments in life. When the sunset meets the sea, when the raindrops meet a thirsty land, when the waves hug the shore, when the storm ends and the rainbow begins, when a baby smiles or holds your hand. When beauty meets modesty, when humbleness meets sincerity, when sadness meets empathy, when happiness meets genuineness. Those moments cannot be recreated. They cannot be equated with a price. Neither can happiness.

“How does one seek union with God?”
“The harder you seek, the more distance you create between Him and you.”
“So what does one do about the distance?”
“Understand that it isn’t there.”
“Does that mean that God and I are one?”
“Not one. Not two.”
“How is that possible?”
“The sun and its light, the ocean and the wave, the singer and his song. Not one. Not two.”

The End of Your World by Adyashanti
More and more people are waking up spiritually. And for most of them, the question becomes: Now what? “Information about life after awakening is usually not made public,” explains Adyashanti. “It’s most often shared only between teachers and their students.” The End of Your World is his response to a growing need for direction on the spiritual path. Consider this Adyashanti’s personal welcome to “a new world, a state of oneness.”
@Spiritualbooks
Adyashanti
Your life, all of your life, is your path to awakening. By resisting or not dealing with its challenges, you stay asleep to Reality. Pay attention to what life is trying to reveal to you. Say yes to its fierce, ruthless, and loving grace.
Marianne Williamson
The material world is a vast matrix of illusion created by the mortal mind. The point of spiritual seeking is not just to realize that the world is filled with illusions, however; it is also to realize the ultimate truth that lies beyond them. To say that the world as we know it is not our ultimate reality is not to say we do not have an ultimate reality. We do have an ultimate reality—which lies beyond our bodies, beyond our mistakes, and beyond this world at all
When he woke up from this experience, the first thing he did was to say, “water! water!”; but there was neither his disciple nor the Ganges in sight. The first thing which he asked for was water because, before going into deep concentration, the topmost thought in his mind was about water; by concentration, however deep and prolonged it might have been, he had only been able to lull his thoughts temporarily; therefore when he revived consciousness this topmost thought flew up with all the speed and force of a flood breaking through the dykes. If this was the case with regard to a thought which took shape immediately before he sat for meditation, there is no doubt that other thoughts which had taken deeper root earlier would still remain unannihilated. If annihilation of thoughts is salvation, can he be said to have attained salvation?
The moral is that one should not be taken away by the spell of temporary stillness but pursue the enquiry till the last vasana is eradicated.

Swami Vivekananda
There is only one method by which to attain this knowledge, that which is called concentration. The chemist in his laboratory concentrates all the energies of his mind into one focus, and throws them out upon the materials he is analysing, and so finds out their secret. The astronomer concentrates all the energies of his mind and projects them through his telescope upon the skies; and the stars, the sun, and the moon, give up their secrets to him. The more I can concentrate my thoughts on the matter on which I am talking to you, the more light I can throw upon it. You are listening to me, and the more you concentrate your thoughts the more clearly you will grasp what I have to say.How has all this knowledge in the world been gained but by the concentration of the powers of the mind. Nature is ready to give up her secrets if we only know how to knock, to give her the necessary blow, and the strength and force of the blow come through concentration.

The Five Hindrances are:
1. Sensual Desire: “I like that,” otherwise known as Lustful or Greedy Mind. You will hang onto things that are pleasant and want more. This will cause attachment to pleasant states of mind that have arisen in the past, and desire for pleasant states to arise in the future.
2. Anger, Aversion, Fear: “I don’t like that.” You will want to push
away states of mind that you don’t like. Or, you might experience fear or anger over unpleasant or painful feelings that have already arisen. You will try to push away and control anything causing you pain. You will even try to force your mind to experience things in a certain way that you think is right when you actually should just observe what is there. Now, that is really overly controlling!
3. Sloth and Torpor: Dullness and Sleepiness. These will cause lack of effort and determination because you’ve lost interest in your object of meditation. You will experience a mental fog. When you look at it closely, you actually see that it has tightness and tension in it. There is even Craving in sleepiness.
4. Restlessness: With Restlessness you constantly want to move and change, to do something other than what you are doing, to be somewhere other than here. Restlessness can manifest as very tight, unpleasant feelings in the body and mind.
5. Doubt: You are not sure you are following the instructions correctly, or even if this is the right practice. It makes you feel unsure of yourself and may even manifest as a lack of confidence in the Buddha’s teaching or your teacher or both.
When the hindrances arise, your job is neither to like them no to fight with them. Your job is to accept them, to invite them in, and to “offer them tea”!
Don’t feed them with your attention. Forcing and not liking them to be there just gives them the attention they crave and makes them stronger

Observing thought
I must love the very thing I am studying. If you want to understand a child, you must love and not condemn him. You must play with him, watch his movements, his idiosyncrasies, his ways of behavior; but if you merely condemn, resist or blame him, there is no comprehension of the child. Similarly, to understand what is, one must observe what one thinks, feels and does from moment to moment. That is the actual.

"Who am I? How should I live?"
It's only when you are lost in the search to answer these questions that a true meeting with yourself can take place, by staying up night after night until your vision brightens. And then you may meet your true self and you'll never be alone again. Your heart beats with the joy of replacing the pain of loneliness of the small self with the all-inclusive Self, and you become much, much clearer and much, much deeper.
People can't become fully human on their own. We can grow as humans only through genuine meetings.
It's spring, a time of hope, a time when we ought to meet something new.
A time when we should open up new eyes.

Jiddu Krishnamurti
How do you see the person who is sitting on the platform? You not only see visually, but you also see intellectually; you are seeing that person through your memory, through your likes and dislikes, through your various forms of conditioning, and therefore you are not seeing, are you? When you really see something, you see without any of that. Is it not possible to look at a flower without naming it, without giving it a label—just to look at it? And is it not possible when you hear something lovely—not just organized music, but the note of a bird in a forest—to listen to it with all your being? And in the same way, can one not really perceive something? Because, if the mind is capable of actually perceiving, feeling, then there is only experiencing and not the experiencer; then you will find that conflict, with all its miseries, hopes, defenses, and so on, comes to an end.
@SpiritualBooks
