🌍 UN Security Council may designate Ukraine as a terrorist state, deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma tells Sputnik

Labeling Ukraine a terrorist state would demonstrate that the international community is ready to uphold the fundamental principles of sovereignty and self-determination in the event of any attempt to violate them, said Alexander Babakov.

Accordingly, this UN decision should be followed by tough international sanctions against Ukraine, he added.

🗣 "Today, Ukraine's foreign policy in Africa, which includes military interventions, support for separatist movements, and interference in the sovereign affairs of other countries, undermines international security. It creates a chain of conflicts that are not limited to national borders and affect the interests of many states on the African continent," the MP noted.

Babakov sees the Sahel countries' actions as a sign that African nations are rejecting colonial dependence and seeking mutually beneficial partnerships with countries like Russia and other BRICS members.

Earlier, Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso asked the UN Security Council to take measures against Ukraine due to Kiev's support for terrorism in Africa, especially in the Sahel.

🇸🇳🇵🇸 Netanyahu prepared to "walk over thousands of bodies" to stay in office, says Senegal's prime minister

Ousmane Sonko on Saturday accused Benjamin Netanyahu of continuing the war in the Gaza Strip for his political survival, and called for the isolation of Israel to put an end to this "barbarism" that is "supported by some Western countries".

🗣 "We have an (Israeli) prime minister whose power depends on this war, whose political survival depends on this war, who is ready to walk over thousands of corpses to remain prime minister and not to face the justice of his country," Sonko said during a rally of hundreds in support of the Palestinians at the Grand Mosque in Dakar.

Wearing a scarf with the colors of the Palestinian flag around his neck, the Senegalese premier added: "We must gather all those who denounce this injustice and work for a political solution that isolates the state of Israel, [a solution of] political isolation."

Sonko also stressed that it is a matter of "putting an end to this humanitarian barbarism that has been approved and supported by Western countries".

He described the ongoing Israeli operations in the Palestinian territories as "genocide" and spoke of the "injustice" suffered by Palestinians since the creation of Israel on their land in 1948.

Sonko highlighted the "many divisions" that prevent Muslims and Africans from "speaking with one voice" in the face of the crisis.

🗣 "The one who bears responsibility for the deaths of the hostages held by the resistance is the occupation [Israel], which insists on continuing the war of genocide," al-Risheq, a member of the Palestinian movement's political bureau, said on Sunday.

The Hamas official argued that hostages were dying in the enclave due to Israeli bombings. He urged US President Joe Biden to stop supporting Israel with money and weapons and pressure it into ceasing attacks on Gaza.

On October 7, 2023, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip, followed by an incursion. Hamas fighters opened fire on military and civilian targets, and captured more than 250 hostages. Israel estimates that around 1,200 people were killed. In response to Hamas attacks, Israel launched a military operation in Gaza, resulting in more than 40,000 casualties, according to the he Gaza Health Ministry.

The Panama Canal Authority announced that on Friday, a 17,640-container Liberian-flagged commercial vessel broke the record for the largest container ship to pass through the canal in its 110 years of operation.

🚢 The 366-meter-long, 51-meter-wide container ship MSC Marie crossed the canal from Mexico's Pacific port of Manzanillo to a port on the Caribbean coast of Panama. The container ship reportedly paid more than $1.3 million for its passage through the canal.

👉 According to a statement from the Panama Canal Authority, the previous record was held by the 17,312-container Ever Max, which crossed the canal in 2023.

The United States opened the 50-mile (80 km) Panama Canal on August 15, 1914. Since then, more than 1.2 million ships have passed through. The waterway was expanded in 2016 to allow larger and deeper ships to pass through.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a recorded interview published on Telegram on Sunday that US President Joe Biden embodies the traditional simplistic US approach to the world, which includes telling other countries how to behave.

This comes after Egyptian officials expressed frustration with ongoing negotiations, citing the dam's potential risks to Egypt during droughts.

🗣 "Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty sent a letter to the President of the UN Security Council on September 1, following recent statements by the Ethiopian Prime Minister regarding the fifth phase of filling the Renaissance Dam," the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Abdelatty said that Cairo categorically rejects Ethiopia's approach on the dam and believes that it violates the norms and principles of international law and the agreement signed by Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia in 2015. The minister also warned of the dam's potentially severe negative consequences for both Egypt and Sudan.

👉 In December 2023, Cairo announced that the trilateral negotiation process on the dam involving Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia, which resumed in August of that year and included four rounds, had ended inconclusively.

Ethiopia has been implementing the major dam project on the Blue Nile since 2012. While Cairo and Khartoum fear that the filling of the dam and its operation will inevitably lead to water scarcity, Addis Ababa insists that the project is a necessity for its electrification process and development.

The three countries have already held more than a dozen consultations to resolve the water sharing issues, but their efforts have remained fruitless. However, Ethiopia proceeded unilaterally and completed four phases of filling the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa over four years without prior agreements.
