✅Criminal justice system- FIR vs preliminary enquiry and zero FIR
🅾️In criminal cases, there are rules for how the police handle certain procedures. One of these procedures is called a preliminary inquiry, which is a quick check to see if there is enough evidence to start an investigation. However, these rules conflict with the established guidelines for writing a First Information Report (FIR), which is a formal document to report a crime.
🅾️The Supreme Court has already settled the rules for writing an FIR. Basically, if someone gives the police information about a crime that can be immediately acted upon, the police must register an FIR and start investigating. However, a preliminary inquiry can be done in specific cases where it's not clear if a crime has been committed.

✅ Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV)
🅾️What?- two primary viruses responsible for the loss of tomato yields-(CMV) affects crops in Maharashtra, (ToMV) affects crops in Karnataka and other South Indian states.
🅾️Spreading mechanism - through infected seeds, saplings, agricultural tools, and human touch. It only takes a few infected saplings to spread the virus rapidly across an entire field.
🅾️Symptoms of Infection : alternating yellowish and dark green areas on the foliage, blister-like appearances on the leaves, leaf distortion, twisting of younger leaves, necrotic spots on the fruit, and affected fruit setting.
🅾️How to control?- spraying quick-acting insecticides or mineral oils to deter aphids, clearing fields of weeds and plant material, and monitoring aphid migration.

✅What is aspartame?- Artificial sweetners
🅾️Context : WHO may declare it as ‘possibly carcinogenic' ( cancer causing agent)
🅾️Why is it famous?- used as sugar substitute- " ( sugar free)
🅾️Chemically, aspartame is a methyl ester of the dipeptide of two natural amino acids, L-aspartic acid and L-phenylalanine. It was discovered by James M Schlatter, a chemist at the American pharmaceutical company G D Searle & Co. (which is now a subsidiary of Pfizer) in 1965, apparently by accident, when, while researching an anti-ulcer drug, he happened to lick his finger and detected a sweet taste.
🅾️Is it not safe?- The USFDA permitted the use of aspartame in food in 1981, and has reviewed the science of its safety five times since then, Two different WHO groups — IARC and the Joint Organization Expert Committee on Food Additives, or JECFA — are currently reviewing the safety of aspartame.

🅾️Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) is the head of department of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization of the Government of India
⚜️It is responsible for approval of licences of specified categories of drugs such as blood and blood products, IV fluids, vaccines, and sera in India.
⚜️DCGI also sets standards for manufacturing, sales, import, and distribution of drugs in India.
🅾️Context : cough syrups made in India to child deaths in The Gambia and Uzbekistan.
🅾️Cough syrup exporters will have to produce a certificate of testing from now - Previously The World Health Organization has said that a batch of contaminated India-made cough syrup has been found in the Marshall Islands and Micronesia.
🅾️Note : Diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol are toxic to humans when consumed, and can prove fatal.
