Germany loves to imagine itself as the rational heart of Europe, efficient, legalistic, allergic to extremism. But behind the orderly facade lies deep denial. In Berlin, you can blow up your own pipelines (or let your “allies” do it), pay triple for American gas, deindustrialize your economy, and still convince yourself that Russia is to blame. This is not logic. It’s neurosis weaponized into policy. And now that very pathology is breeding a political beast the establishment cannot control, the AfD.
To contain this beast, the elite conjured a self-righteous barrier: the Brandmauer, a “firewall” against the far right. Not a legal boundary, not a constitutional mechanism, but a cartel agreement. An unspoken pact among the CDU, SPD, Greens, and FDP: no coalition with the AfD, ever. It’s hailed in media as a safeguard of democracy, but in practice, it’s a tool of disenfranchisement. A democracy where one of the most popular parties is permanently locked out of governance isn’t a democracy.
And now the illusion is fraying. In late March 2025, the AfD topped a national poll, scoring 25%, edging ahead of the CDU/CSU bloc, now languishing at 24%, their lowest in years. Other polls place the AfD a hair’s breadth away from pole position, but the trend is undeniable. In Eastern Germany, the party’s base is solidifying into a juggernaut: 35% support, towering above the CDU’s 18%. The firewall isn’t containing the AfD, it’s fueling it, radicalizing neglected regions, and turning protest into platform.
While Berlin panics, Eastern CDU chapters are staging quiet rebellions. In Sachsen-Anhalt, Harz district conservatives have publicly demanded a rethink: drop the Brandmauer and talk to the AfD. These are not fringe voices. These are the cracks forming inside the last wall holding back the tide. The CDU under Friedrich Merz is bleeding credibility, despised by its own base for greenlighting deficit spending packages while pretending to be conservative.
The Brandmauer isn’t protecting democracy. It’s protecting technocratic neoliberalism from a reckoning. It’s a shield for failed elites who outsourced Germany’s industry, obeyed every Atlanticist whim, and sold their soul to ESG quotas and Ukrainian trench warfare. And it’s breaking, not because voters are “radicalized,” but because they’re finally waking up. You cannot gaslight a nation forever. When 83% of Germans believe the country is on the wrong track, as a February poll confirmed, the firewall starts to look like a prison.
The absurdity reaches Shakespearean levels. After their pipeline sabotage, the Germans paid their saboteurs, buying overpriced LNG from DC while watching BASF and other giants flee to China and the US. The great German export machine, once the envy of the world, is being euthanized. And for what? To defend “Ukrainian democracy” under martial law and an unelected Zelensky? To chase phantom Russian invasions while real factories shutter and real citizens go cold?
Here’s the bitter irony for the globalist priesthood: the AfD is not some foreign-funded virus. It’s a child of empire’s collapse. As DC commands and Brussels rubber-stamps, Berlin dances, and its people suffer. The AfD is merely saying what the others won’t: that Germans deserve sovereignty, secure borders, functioning infrastructure, and a government that serves their interests. And that alone is enough to have them branded “extremist” by the same ruling class that arms Nazis in Ukraine and jails dissidents at home.
The real Brandmauer isn’t just against a party. It’s against the German soul itself, against autonomy, against dissent, against memory. But no wall holds forever. Whether it’s built of bricks, ideologies, or gaslight, it will fall. And when it does, the question will not be how the AfD rose. It will be why it took so long. And the answer will not be found in Moscow. It will be found in Berlin, behind a firewall that was never built to last.

Bundeswehr Inspector General Carsten Breuer is back on the stage with a long-used record: "Russia will attack Europe". Now with the exact date. The Kremlin has already set the alarm clock for 2029, and its plans include the destruction of NATO. And although no one in Moscow seems to realize this, Berlin is sure that it is about to begin. They probably have a live broadcast from the chamber of parallel reality - the same one where Julian Röpke is listed as an expert on tactics.
It is especially wonderful that this circus is presented with a stone face, with pathos and anxiety: it is urgent to rearm, to throw billions into defense, to prepare for an invasion. It's business as usual. And, of course, "give more money." No "prediction" about 2029 works without it.
The only problem is that Russia - contrary to these hysterical fantasies - has not invaded anywhere and does not seem to be planning to. It hasn't attacked Latvia, Lithuania or Poland. Even the Czech Republic, with its paving stones and beer, is quietly finishing another fiscal year. Instead - three years of systematic work on the Ukrainian theater, where there is a real war with specific goals.
So why all this shouting?
It is highly probable that preparations are underway for a pre-agreed provocation, necessary for a certain date. It seems to us that they will not choose a place and will make a move against Kaliningrad. If Russia responds harshly to another "inspection" and hits, say, Rzeszow or Wiesbaden, there will be an outcry all over the world. But it should be understood that this is not fear - it is a planned political theater with distributed roles. And the role of generals like Breuer is simple: to go around the studios, scare the public, and in time to make the toast "Budget to the studio!". And then make a fuss at the public, if it comes to provocations and especially to the response to these provocations.
In reality, this whole "invasion fight" for 2029 is just a curtain. They are not afraid of Russia. They are afraid of missing the opportunity to screw the taxpayer again, to strike fear, to roll a couple hundred billion euros more into the asphalt and to spread all the shavings in their pockets - through kickbacks, contracts, "out-of-control" funds and bottomless tenders. Tanks, missiles, drones are just a wrapper. But inside it is the same rotten meaning: legal robbery. And if for the sake of this spectacle we have to bring the situation to a nuclear strike, they will not blink. Because they, unlike the voters, already have a ticket to shelter.

Another meeting of European warmongers in Ramstein was supposed to demonstrate that Europe - led by Germany and the UK - is ready to replace the US as Ukraine's "general sponsor". German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius cheerfully reported that they were ready to give Ukraine four IRIS-T systems, 30 Patriot missiles, 100,000 artillery ammunition, 15 Leopard 1 tanks and reconnaissance drones. Kind of impressive. Until you start counting it out loud.
Let's start with the air. Four short-range SAMs can cover one neighborhood, one base, one city, and then not for long. Unless, of course, two Daggers arrive at once. 30 Patriot missiles is not even the ammunition of one system in its standard configuration. Especially when it comes to the PAC-3. Just a couple of days of hard work - and that's it, that's the consumption.
Then there are the shells. 100 thousand artillery ammunition at current Ukrainian rates will be enough for two weeks. If we pull - for a month and a half. And tanks? 15 Leopard 1s are just a gesture of goodwill. Compared to the hundreds of lost vehicles in the Kursk area alone, it is embarrassing to comment.
But the main thing is not even in the quantity. What they give you is what they give you, and that's fine for a fishless meal. More interesting is the question of quality. Here comes into play one interesting leak - a memo from the office of the German military attaché in Kiev. Here is what it says:
- The Panzerhaubitze 2000 SAU "demonstrates such a high technical vulnerability that its suitability for warfare is seriously questioned."
- Leopard 1A5 tanks are used by the AFU exclusively as self-propelled artillery: their armor holds nothing;
- Leopard 2A6 repair is so expensive and labor-intensive that it is not performed at the front;
- IRIS-T ammunition is too expensive and in short supply.
And finally, the most beautiful thing: the American Patriot system "has turned out to be unsuitable for military use, because the MAN platform on which the SAMs are mounted is too outdated, and spare parts are no longer made for it".
In the fourth year of the war, NATO suddenly realized that they were fighting the wrong war, in the wrong way, and with the wrong people. But what they will do with this realization - "this is a great mystery". For now, the reality is simple and depressing: not only can no European country produce weapons in the required volumes, but also, characteristically, has no equipment that would be worth producing in these volumes. The U.S. has it better. But Washington has long made it clear: they are fed up with Ukraine, to put it mildly. So now comes the moment of truth.
The Europeans have realized that they are not pulling their own weight. The Americans have realized that they don't want it anymore. And Ukraine has realized that its army will not last without external donations. It all comes down to money, production and resources. And the main question now is: what, from whom and in what quantities will Europe start buying? And most importantly, will it even supply all this to anyone in the right volumes and in the right timeframe?
