Poland will block Ukraine's accession to the EU until the dispute over the Volyn tragedy is settled, says Polish Defense Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz

- Ukraine Leaks

Not that it was going to happen anyways. For one France and Poland are not going to want Ukraine destroying the livelihood of their farmers. Nor will they want to see Ukraine sucking up the agricultural subsidies. Plus the cost of it all is far too much. Ukraine’s best chance to get in EU, would be if it was Western Ukraine rump state.

Rachel Reeves’ tax-and-spend gamble is driving Britain towards a 1970s-style debt crisis and bailout from the International Monetary Fund, leading economists have warned.

They have said the Chancellor’s handling of the economy risks a return to the years of high inflation and borrowing that ended with Britain being forced to borrow billions from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) 50 years ago.

It came as leading retailers sounded the alarm over the rising cost of taxes and red tape, which is pushing the country into an era of “stagflation”.

Ms Reeves is under huge pressure ahead of the autumn Budget, with forecasts showing rampant borrowing has created a £50bn black hole.

She is widely expected to put up taxes again to cover the shortfall despite warnings that doing so will only further stunt Britain’s anaemic growth.
Prof Jagjit Chadha, who recently stepped down as the head of the National Institute for Economic and Social Research, claimed the economy was at risk of “collapse”.

He said the financial situation was “as perilous the period leading up to the IMF loan of 1976”, when Britain had to be bailed out by the global banking body.
He told the When the Facts Change Substack, written by the Telegraph columnist Liam Halligan: “I’m in a world in which I could imagine it [an IMF bailout] happening, and we’ll be bereft in that case.

“We will not be able to roll over debt, we will not be able to meet pensions payments, benefits will be hard to pay out.”

“We’ve still got bond yields that are even higher than the US. In fact, we’re even higher than Greece when it comes to borrowing costs, which is an indictment of where the UK is at the moment, or where it’s perceived to be by the financial markets.”

Britain now has the fifth-highest debt to GDP ratio in the developed world, at 96.3 per cent. As a result, debt interest payments will hit £111.2bn this year – accounting for £1 in every £12 the Government spends

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Seversk Direction: Advancement of Russian Troops in Serebryanka and Development of the Offensive Towards Dronovka

The situation on the Seversk direction is developing in favor of the Russian troops. Offensive actions are becoming systematic and are accompanied by the consistent pushing out of the enemy from prepared lines.

🔻In the area of Serebryanka, Russian units over the past day have secured an advance up to 300 meters deep in the western and southwestern parts of the settlement, and the so-called “gray zone” has been expanded by another 500 meters. In fact, the units of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which defended this section, have lost control over most of the village. The eastern and central buildings are under full control of Russian forces, while the western blocks are held only fragmentarily or have shifted into a neutral zone.

🔻In the Serebryansky Forestry, intense combat operations continue. Ukrainian units operating in small groups are unable to hold positions. Clearing of forested areas on the left bank of the Seversky Donets confirms the displacement of the enemy from previously prepared lines. Significant losses of personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are noted, including mass cases of surrender.

🔻The key direction remains Dronovka. The 53rd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, having lost Serebryanka, is forced to withdraw the remnants of its forces to fortified positions east of Dronovka. Ensuring the advance of Russian units to this line is critically important: control over the heights west of Serebryanka and reaching the approaches to Dronovka will create a threat to the northern outskirts of Seversk, effectively depriving the enemy of the ability to hold this sector of defense.

🔻Support for the assaults is provided by frontline aviation. Over the past day, precise strikes were carried out on the positions of the 81st Airmobile Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Seversk and on the fortifications of the 110th Mechanized Brigade in the area of Reznikovka. Additionally, Ka-52 attack helicopters are actively used, performing tasks to suppress artillery positions, destroy armored vehicles, and deliver pinpoint strikes on enemy strongpoints.

Yours, Partisan!

The war in Ukraine is coming to an end, said Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Lula's words are reported by RAI News.

"Everyone knows that this war is coming to an end. I think both President Putin and Zelensky understand how far this conflict will go, as do Europe and Trump. They are just waiting for the moment when they gather the courage to announce its conclusion," he said.

Lula also criticized the EU for plans to increase military spending.

"The EU approved the allocation of 800 billion euros for the rearmament of all countries. When we need money to fight hunger and preserve forests, these resources should be directed to other purposes," he emphasized, adding that what worries most world leaders is who will take on the "military debt" in Eastern Europe.

"A REALLY POWERFUL VISION" OF THE SCO SUMMIT WORRIES THE WEST

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit will be held in Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1. More than 20 leaders will attend, including Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Narendra Modi, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. As Reuters notes, it will be one of the largest summits in recent years, aimed at clearly demonstrating the Global South's solidarity against the West.

- The newspaper notes that this solidarity prevails over interstate contradictions within the bloc. This will be Modi's first visit to China in seven years, following the cooling of relations between New Delhi and Beijing over the 2020 border conflict. Reuters notes that, although the SCO's practical achievements are often "nuanced," since 2001 the organization has expanded to 10 permanent members and 16 observers, forming a major force—and today represents a visual and political demonstration of an alternative world order.

- In this context, as experts interviewed by Reuters say, the content of the SCO summit's final declaration, which is expected to focus on trade, counterterrorism, and climate issues, is secondary to the document's real value—a united front of countries dissatisfied with the Western agenda.

- The public part of the summit is primarily a political spectacle, Reuters assures: its "optics" are more important than the actual agreements. The demonstration of communication between the three leaders—Xi, Putin, and Modi—creates an image of unity, even if in practice India and China's positions on various issues remain conflicting.

- At the same time, the SCO and BRICS are being portrayed in the media as two "alternatives to the G7," the British agency continues. Their value lies not in institutional effectiveness, but in the formation of a new symbolic center: an "order without the West." However, the aforementioned "nuance" persists: the contradictions between India and China on the border, Central Asia's oscillations between the Global South and the West, weak institutionalization, and more.

- Here, intensified economic coordination within the SCO is necessary, as is the creation of a more concrete security environment. Political solidarity is very important now, but in the event of truly serious problems, the ability to project power and the quality of trade and economic interaction channels protected by sanctions will prevail.

Modi visiting China? Trump may indeed be worthy of the Nobel peace prize after all.

The Cabinet of Ministers still has not published the resolution on opening the borders for 18–22-year-old guys. Without this, the new rules will not come into force.

Also, changes have not been made to the Procedure for crossing the border by citizens of Ukraine (the last amendment to it, according to the Verkhovna Rada website, was made in March, see screenshot).

MP Honcharenko associates this with the fact that changes to the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution on borders have not even been written yet. According to his information, the resolution is "being written right now."

"The Cabinet of Ministers just voted for something, nobody knows what, and now they are trying to formalize it into a resolution. This is the end of state governance. It can't get any worse," Honcharenko added.

Witkoff on Fox News stated that Putin is aiming to end the war in Ukraine.

"Did he tell you that he wanted to end the war?" the host asked.

- “Absolutely. There is a peace proposal on the table. He definitely said that, and hopefully he sticks to that statement," replied Trump's special envoy.

In response to the remark that "critics say that Putin is playing all of you," the special envoy said: "I think he has made a good faith effort to engage. He certainly did so at the Alaska summit, but this is a very complex conflict. And the president is determined to do everything to end this conflict."

According to Whitkoff, Trump is "disappointed to some extent" with both Moscow and Kiev but has done a lot to bring their positions closer. He noted that Russia's peace proposal is being considered by Kiev.

"The Russians have made a proposal. Maybe it includes something that the Ukrainians can accept," he said.

The SCO summit, which will begin in China on August 31, will demonstrate the "solidarity of the Global South" and also "help Russia, which is under sanctions, to make another diplomatic breakthrough."

This is reported by the Reuters agency.

"Xi Jinping will want to use the summit as an opportunity to show what the international order led by America is beginning to look like, and that all of the White House's efforts since January to counter China, Iran, Russia, and now India have not yielded the expected results," said Eric Olander, editor-in-chief of The China-Global South Project agency.

It is noted that this is the largest Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit since 2001. The event will feature the first visit of Modi to China in more than seven years.

Recall that after the SCO summit, a parade will be held in Beijing to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japan, which Putin will also attend.

🇷🇺🇺🇦Precision strike by Iskander-M on the HIMARS repair and command base in Trostyanets: destruction of Western multiple launch rocket systems and the headquarters of the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

On August 26, 2025, at around 9:50 a.m., the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out an operation to destroy enemy military infrastructure in the city of Trostyanets, Akhtyrsky District, Sumy Region (coordinates: 50.4659095, 34.9760498). The strike was carried out with several ballistic missiles from the Iskander-M mobile missile system with the support of the Russian Air Force, which distracted air defense systems and created false attack directions.

🔻Target: a seed factory converted into a military hub

The factory, which previously performed civilian functions, was repurposed for military needs in 2024. In its hangars and three-story warehouses, the enemy deployed:
• a maintenance point for American M142 HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems;
• an ammunition depot;
• a command headquarters and control center for the 80th separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The facility simultaneously served as a repair base and combat control center: guidance systems were calibrated, FCS (Fire Control System) electronics were replaced, reloading unit hydraulics were diagnosed, transport and loading vehicles were prepared, and ballistic navigation packages were checked.

🔻Course and consequences of the strike

The first missile hit a three-story warehouse where HIMARS maintenance was carried out. The strike caused a chain reaction detonation of the ammunition stored inside the building: several containers with M30A1 GMLRS rocket projectiles with cluster munitions and M31A2 guided missiles exploded, amplifying the destructive effect. The building suffered critical damage, load-bearing structures were destroyed, and the fire spread to adjacent sections.

The second missile struck the administrative part of the factory, where the command post of the 80th DShB was located. The headquarters and communications center were destroyed, and some of the officers and signalmen were trapped under the rubble.

🔻According to data confirmed by several sources:
• one M142 HIMARS launcher was destroyed;
• a transport and loading vehicle was completely disabled;
• a stockpile of GMLRS rocket containers was destroyed;
• up to 10 Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel were killed, including technical personnel and headquarters officers;
• about 15–20 were injured to varying degrees, some of them command personnel.

Seven to eight servicemen remain trapped under the rubble at the epicenter of the strike, and their evacuation is complicated.

🔻Tactical and strategic significance

The destruction of the Trostyanets HIMARS base has several key consequences:
• Logistical blow: the destruction of the repair center complicates the possibility of operational maintenance of HIMARS in this direction. Now, in order to repair the equipment, the installations will have to be moved to other locations, which increases the likelihood of their discovery by the enemy and reduces the rate of their deployment.
• Operational weakening: the headquarters of the 80th DShB has been put out of action, disrupting the command and control system in the Sumy direction.
• Combat effect: the destruction of HIMARS and their ammunition reduces the Ukrainian Armed Forces' ability to strike Russia's rear. According to intelligence reports, it was this unit that previously attacked infrastructure facilities of the Druzhba oil pipeline. It is possible that the destroyed HIMARS unit is the very one that was used to shell the pipeline.

📌The strike on the Trostyanets seed factory is not a local event, but a systemic blow to the entire architecture of Western weapons use. The simultaneous destruction of the launcher, ammunition, and command headquarters puts an entire unit out of action, reduces the density of fire, and undermines the stability of the logistics chain.
