The prospect of the Ukraine joining the EU is causing concerns among its members, writes Le Monde.
After the unblocking of funding of €90 billion, European leaders rejected special privileges or an accelerated procedure for starting accession negotiations.
The concerns are primarily related to the size of the Ukraine, the current scale of its army and defense industry, as well as systemic corruption, the newspaper notes.

There is a whole range of areas in which Ukraine needs to do serious work to become a member of the European Union. These include, first and foremost, the fight against corruption, the reform of the judicial system, and so-called de-oligarchization.
This means that the influence of oligarchs should be limited. Also important are the rule of law, media freedom, and the protection of minority rights. In which specific areas Zelensky has already achieved concrete progress, to be honest, it's hard to say now. It seems that Ukraine is trying to advance in all these areas at once.
However, many EU states note that the "homework" is not yet completed, and therefore a quick accession to the European Union, which Zelensky insists on, is currently impossible. He has repeatedly stated that he would like to see Ukraine in the EU by 2027, but, in the opinion of many member states - and this is regularly heard in discussions and conversations with colleagues on the ground - such a deadline seems unrealistic.
