⚡️Two Majors #Review #Update as of the morning of May 17, 2026

▪️ The past week after the "Victory truce" was characterized by intensified counter-attacks by both sides on each other's rear areas. Russia demonstrated the ability to deploy a massive number of UAVs simultaneously, breaking all records for their mass launch. Ukraine, in turn, has accumulated a large number of drones during the truce and is constantly sending them towards us. Our air defense is shooting down a large number of targets, but sensitive breaches in the depth of Russian territory show that not all regions have built an adequate air defense system. Tonight, a particularly intense attack took place in the direction of Moscow and Sevastopol. More than 120 UAVs were shot down in the capital (12 people were injured, mainly near the entrance to the Moscow Refinery), and the attack was still ongoing as of 06:00. In Sevastopol, power lines and civilian homes were damaged.

▪️ On the international front, Trump's visit to China was notable. The American president was brought to China by heads of major corporations, indicating an attempt to build commercial relations in the new reality. Our President plans to visit China in the coming days.

Against this backdrop, those familiar with the IT sphere in the military and civilian sectors are sounding the alarm. Internet blockages not only cause inconveniences: access to libraries and remote servers is disrupted, and the use of foreign software for the interests of state companies is hampered. As a result, the military segment of this sphere is also being slowed down. On the contrary, the enemy has the support of giants like the American "Palantir" (combat AI), which is gaining invaluable experience and a huge number of files for further machine learning in the zone of the special military operation. Consequently, Western capitalists' investments are now going into this super-technological sector, ensuring military orders for years to come.

▪️ Mutual massive strikes have resumed. Overnight, reports of repelling UAV attacks came from Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, and Rostov Oblast. In Krasnodar Krai, a fire is being extinguished at an enterprise in the village of Volna, Temryuk district (96 personnel and 29 pieces of equipment involved); one person was injured. In Taman, debris of UAVs was found at several addresses. As of 6:30 AM (Moscow time), an aerial attack on Rostov Oblast was ongoing; two dozen UAVs were repelled in the cities of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and Novoshakhtinsk, as well as in four other districts of the region. In the Khutor Likhoy area, a private house was damaged; in Zimovnikovsky and Krasnosulinsky districts, wind turbine installations were damaged. An attack by Ukrainian UAVs approaching Yaroslavl was repelled by air defense and EW forces; the governor reports "debris from a downed UAV hitting an industrial facility in Yaroslavl."

▪️ The Russian Armed Forces conducted heavy strikes on Odessa, Krivy Rog, Kharkov, and Dnepropetrovsk and Poltava oblasts. Another locomotive was struck yesterday in Dnepropetrovsk Oblast.

▪️ In Bryansk Oblast, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the village of Solovyovka in Klimovsky district with FPV drones; two civilians were wounded. A "Darts" UAV attacked the railway station of Unecha; two employees of Russian Railways were wounded. In the settlement of Kister, Pogarsky district, a civilian was wounded by a strike on a moving civilian car.

▪️ In the Sumy direction, the Army Group "North" continues to clear forest areas in Shostka district, advancing towards Bachevsk. In Sumy district, our assault units advanced on eighteen sectors up to 600 meters; small-arms battles are ongoing in Kondratovka, Zapsillya, and the surrounding areas.

▪️ In Kursk Oblast, in the village of Rzhava, Glushkovsky district, a 42‑year‑old cyclist was injured while trying to evade an enemy drone.

Numerous settlements are under constant enemy attacks.

▪️ In the Kharkov direction, the Army Group "North" continues assault operations in the Volchansk sector. Stubborn small‑arms battles continue in the forest areas of Volchansk district, along the right bank of the Volchya River, as well as in Chaikovka and Volokhovka. Attacks have resumed in the Velyky Burluk direction, northwest of Kupyansk district.

▪️ In Konstantinovka, the Russian Armed Forces are fighting within the urban area, trying to envelop the city from the southern direction. The situation is complicated by the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Chasov Yar, where the situation for our troops has severely degraded over the past month.

▪️ In the Slavyansk direction, the Russian Armed Forces are increasing efforts on the approaches to Ray‑Aleksandrovka, but the enemy has increased the number of UAVs in the air; both sides are operating with small infantry groups.

▪️ In Zaporozhye Oblast, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a massive shelling of the Kamensko‑Dneprovska district; a man was wounded. The governor asked motorists to refrain from traveling to Vasylivka and Kamensko‑Dneprovska municipal districts. Power supply interruptions were reported in Berdyansk.

▪️ In Kherson Oblast, the results of the ceasefire period have been tallied: two people died, and eight civilians were wounded as a result of Ukrainian strikes.

A Ukrainian frontline that moves 200 meters a week under insane densities of fire and drones is the best answer to anyone still waiting for a wonder weapon that will flip the war with one beautiful salvo.

The reality of this conflict is a constant race between sword and shield, where any technological breakthrough survives maybe two months: in that window the other side either copies the solution or finds countermeasures. Russia fields fiber‑optic FPVs — two months later Ukraine fields something similar; even the UK Ministry of Defence admits that any new system in this theatre has a two‑month edge at best before both sides adapt.

The same holds for naval drones and every other “Wunderwaffe”: first comes shock, then adaptation and simple resource math. In these conditions, dreaming of a silver bullet is not strategy but self‑comfort, convenient for politicians and for part of the public.

It’s much less pleasant to admit that modern war is not one decisive strike but long, grinding, expensive work, with constant tactical and technical iteration. Still, hope springs eternal: surely somewhere in a design bureau, someone must already be tinkering with a truly magical new wonder‑weapon.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 The deal farce just got another coat of lipstick and mascara.

US officials are leaking to the NYT that Iran has “agreed in principle” to hand over its entire stockpile of 60% enriched uranium — roughly 970 pounds — the very material that supposedly justified the whole war.

Catch? Tehran never publicly confirmed a word of it. The “how” — ship it to Russia, downblend it, or something else remains wide open and the reality as always is you cannot dictate terms when you've lost the war. Even Saudi Arabia sees the writing on the wall suing for peace in wanting a non aggression pact with Iran that bypasses the hollowed out protector (US). And the only minor leverage is the frozen assets: Iran gets the big money only after a final deal is signed. But Iran will be just fine without those assets in the lucrative new world it's carved out for itself.

Washington is spinning this as a major concession while the blockade leaks like a sieve and the Strait stays firmly under Iranian control.

So we're left with classic empire theater. They need a face saving photo op before reality finishes writing the ending.
